I love KPD! It's a super family friendly dojo. Sensei Kevin is an excellent instructor with kids…read moreand adults. My daughters and I have all responded well to his style that teaches respect, self/discipline, patience and FUN. The Tiny Tigers class is very age appropriate and works on transitioning the kids into the karate philosophy, basic techniques and ends in a super fun karate game. It's great exercise for their minds and bodies. My super-shy, group-phobic child is responding well to the class and Sensei is big reason why. He's helped transition her into the class and recognized her strength at the right time to get her self-confidence up and bolster her participation. When my eldest moved into the Little Leopards class it was perfect timing. She was was getting a little bored of Tiny Tigers and appreciated the increased technical instruction of the curriculum and longer class duration. So, I think the timing and instruction is well-suited by age. I was delighted when my oldest (6yo) told me she wanted to make-up missed classes over summer vacation, as she is grasping on a personal level a heightened sense of self-discipline and consistency. As a grown-up, I started KPD on a whim with no previous martial arts experience to have 2 nights of exercise accountability and personal time out of the house. I was TOTALLY out of shape after having 3 little ones, KPD helped me establish a set exercise routine. It pushed me to develop in areas not possible outside of the dojo and showed me simple ways to improve my health and challenge myself. I attribute my decision to join the dojo at KPD as a huge turning point in my path to reclaim my health. When I started I was 30 lbs heavier and doing a jumping jack warm up would have me sadly breathing heavily, but it motivated me to push myself a little more every class and outside of class. Now (a year later) I am WAY fitter and can run 3 miles no problem. I have progressed technically and love how karate has a curriculum and built in challenge. As I was a former athlete (20 years ago), Sensei Kevin has helped me tap into my fitness potential and really helped me to develop a new found love for the martial arts. The adult class is small at the moment, but offers loads of individual attention. On the plus side, it's great for developing technique and individual learning. So, a dedicated student can excel fairly quickly. It's also really cool to be able to use karate as an outlet to connect with my kids and other martial arts enthusiasts in my professional and personal circles. Regardless of the class or circumstances, Sensei Kevin is ALWAYS professional and super affable. He doesn't gift belt promotions, they must be earned; I like this approach. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend KPD to those seeking a dojo regardless of their age or knowledge of Karate.

If you are looking to practice a traditional martial art, then this is your place. Master Klacko is…read morean excellent teacher, being both friendly and knowledgeable and welcomes anyone who wants to learn into his school. It should be noted that this school is nonprofit, and all of the instructors have day jobs. They teach because they all truly love the art and want to pass it along to those who want to learn. This is not to put down any of the reputable for-profit martial arts studios in the area, but it is just one of the things that makes Cambridge TSD different. Back to the class...you will learn something new each session. Other students are friendly and always willing to help each other out, as courtesy and respect are the foundations of our art. The location of the school is actually in the Cambridge Athletic Club in the Atheneaum Building in Kendall Square. You can either join the gym or just sign up for the martial arts training. Classes are primarily held in the newly renovated "dojang" which is also doubles as the gym's group exercise room. On weekends, there are kids classes as well and parents are encouraged to join. I switched from taekwondo, which had more of a focus on sport sparring, to tang soo do. I find that tang soo do has more of a complete martial art focus, because we train both hand and foot techniques, self defense, weaponry, sparring, forms, and more. Additionally, there is a great emphasis on truly learning the art, the history and meaning behind each move and why it's done. If you're curious about the martial arts, learning self defense, or looking for a new form of exercise, then I highly recommend checking this place out. Convenient to the T and free parking as well.

If I had to defend myself, I could. For me, Wing Chun and continuous sparring are practical, useful, interesting, and effective. Sifu Jue teaches authentic, traditional kung fu in the traditional Chinese way ~ the way Kung Fu classes were taught in China past and present, and integrates his own method. This school is not a franchised business or part of an organization with a standardized curriculum. Having practiced Wing Chun under 2 previous teachers, I can say that Sifu Jue understands Wing Chun very well, is an excellent practitioner, and is an effective teacher with an ability to teach anyone. Over the years I've witnessed many people in his class develop into surprisingly good fighters. Sifu Jue knows many things but is a modest instructor. Everyone is comfortable learning here. As with anything, if you commit yourself you will continue to improve. Note: I chose to learn Kung Fu because I knew it offered something additional that modern fighting arts do not. There are the tangible benefits of self~defense, strength, and fitness, that come with training of any kind, but kung fu offers much more.

I also have over 30 years of involvement with the arts and have black belts in Karate and Ju Jitsu ( 1rst degree and 6th degree respectively, plus some other stuff. Sifu Stanley may perhaps be at the highest level I have ever trained with. He is also an awesome guy. The training is now semi private with much individual attention.
