If you ever hire Jay's Handyman Service, BEWARE. First,…read moreread your proposal carefully and read the contract even more carefully. We discovered that an essential term that was in the proposal changed when it was re-written into the contract. The specific term in the proposal was that a completion payment for Phase 1 (of a 3 phase contract), would be due upon final completion of all 3 contracts. When Justin completed Phase 1 he demanded a sizeable payment. I calmly pointed out the discrepancy between the proposal and the contract, at which time Justin immediately flew into a rage, grabbed a hammer, and threatened to "rip out all the drywall" in the garage, then threw the hammer across the bed of his truck, threw his clip board across the bed of the truck, and shouted at us "Y'all don't ever call me again." It was a simple question we tried to address in a calm and reasonable manner and tone. Lesson learned: when dealing with Justin and Amanda - READ EVERYTHING TWICE and COMPARE ALL DOCUMENTS for unsuspected changes. Next lesson learned: WATCH Justin carefully to prevent him from doing work he was instructed not to do. There were three pieces of exterior trim around the garage door which Justin replaced according to plan. However, he was instructed at least three times not to paint the trim. Despite those instructions, after Justin's outrage incident, he returned that evening and painted the trim. Next lesson learned: DEMAND a detailed estimate which shows the cost of materials and the hours for labor. Let me give you some examples of overcharges from our contract we had with Jay's Handyman Service. 1. Insulation: Justin charged $72.60/hour for 10 hours = $720.60. We watched Justin installing the insulation and commented on how fast he worked. He replied something to the effect that "I'm quick so I can get on to another job." Our estimated time was 3 hours to install insulation in a two-stall garage. That would amount to $217.80 at Justin's rate of $72.60/hour. That equals an overcharge markup of $502.80 (231% markup). 2. Drywall installation: this was for a two stall garage to replace drywall after a fire. The garage had already been stripped to the studs, so it was ready for installation. Justin claimed 68 hours to hang drywall, tape, and finish. This did include taping, mud, and sanding (but no paint). His charge for 68 hours at $78.65/hour = $5,348.20. Having done one drywall project (at a beginner's pace), our estimated time for this installation is (generously), 25 hours at $78.65/hour = $1,966.25. The result is an overcharge markup of $3,381.95 (172% markup). 3. Here's the one that really caught our attention. Justin charged $24.20 each for two electrical outlets for a total of $48.40. The actual Home Depot price for each outlet is 87¢ each for a grand total of $1.74. This is an overcharge markup of $46.66 ... wait for it... a 2,782% markup! 4. Garage Door Trim: 3 pieces (two sides and top). Justin charged $32.67 each for a total of $98.01. The actual Home Depot price is $39.96 for a 3-pack (2 inch trim). This results in an overcharge markup of $58.05 (145% markup). 5. Installation of 3 pieces of Garage Door Trim: Justin claimed it took 5 hours to install the new trim. Just guessing, he thought about it for 4 1/2 hours and did the work in 30 minutes. Seriously, he charged $78.65/hour x 5 hours = $393.25. Our actual estimated time to install 3 pieces of trim is (generously), 1 hour @ $78.65/hour = $78.65. This results in an overcharge markup of $314.60 (400% markup). 6. Painting the trim (remember, we told him not to paint the trim) - Justin claimed it took 2 hours to paint 3 pieces of garage door trim (2 inch trim on 3 sides of the garage door). Two hours of paint time at $78.65/hour = $157.30. We figure it probably took 30 minutes (judging by my wife's work in re-painting the trim). For 30 minutes at $78.65 = $39.33. This is an overcharge markup of $117.97 (300% markup). 7. Here's another one that caught our attention. Justin replaced 2 light fixtures at a cost of $52.51/each = $105.03. The actual Home Depot cost is $2.68 each x 2 = $5.36. This is an overcharge markup of $99.67 (1,860% markup). 8. Finally... Justin charged 4 hours to install 2 electrical outlets and 2 light fixtures. Justin's total charge at $140.36/hour = $561.44. Our estimated time of 1 hour = $140.36. This is an overcharge markup of $421.08 (300% markup). When we realized that several fixtures were not functioning, we called in an electrician. The electrician determined that Justin had mis-wired one of the outlets. In conclusion.... If I had it to do over again, I would never hire Jay's Handyman Service. There is actually more to this story, but by this point, you can draw your own conclusions. Justin's claim of being "Affordable, Reliable, Honest, and Experienced" begs the question.... In what world and in whose imagination? You be the judge.

Line-By-Line Roofing appears to have a solid system, and is a company that is very trustworthy. I…read moream going to explain the process, which hopefully answers unknowns, if considering work. I first contacted them, via web, due to a roof leak that I no longer wanted to repair. After initial contact, I received a call from the next morning, as well as other contact to set me up with an estimate. Jessica, the sales rep, came out a few days later to provide the estimate. She down-sold me from a metal roof, explaining the original cost, and required maintenance in the future, which was incredible. It is rare to see that from sales departments, in my opinion. She also possessed more detailed information about roofing systems than I would expect of a sales rep, and communicated her confidence level pertaining to her responses. The best part, she was not pushy. Overall, it seems that LBL sales, based on my experience, are not typical salesmen, but instead those that have passion about the trade, and want to sell real solutions, as opposed to selfishly maximizing commission. The schedulers called me maybe 2 or 3 days after placing my deposit, which was quicker than expected. With an original estimate of 3 weeks out, it ended up being less than 1 week. I was told to expect them around 6:30 AM and for the job to last for 10-12 hours. They finished the work at 4:30 PM, followed by the cleanup, lasting about another 90 minutes. They estimated the repair work very well, and that is considering they had a late delivery of the material, the day of the job. The roofing team was incredible. They all showed up on the job-site ready to work, and that is exactly what they did. They were incredibly professional, courteous, and ready to roof my house. It blows my mind how they did such a thorough job, in that little of time, my hats off to them for sure. They were led by Michael, the project manager, and he was an incredible liaison. He had great communication with me, updating me when I needed to be updated, as well as taking ownership of the project. When returning to my home, there was an incident with the delivery company, in that they busted a hydraulic line on their equipment. Michael briefed me as soon as I returned, had evidence of the incident, and had already reached out the the company alerting them so that they could prep remediation. This was refreshing, in that he could have covered it up and I might have never known, meaning Michael has integrity. He also has been communicating to me, following the project, to keep me alerted on the steps he has taken to help resolve the issue, despite the issue belonging to the delivery company instead. I appreciate stuff like this, because it does show ownership of the project, instead of brushing it off. After inspecting the work, everything looked incredible, and I have not been able to find any trash anywhere. Overall, this company has earned my trust. They have integrity and seem to do the right thing. In the world of any home repairs, you always read about those that are taken advantage of in some way. I do not feel like that will be the case for this company, as they have proven themselves to me. I would recommend them to anyone that needs roof work.

I have absolutely no problems with the gentleman that come out or his work. My issue is they did not quote before doing the repairs. I was expecting maybe somewhere around $400 based on the time and what was done, so I didn't bring up it should have been quoted first. I was very shocked to see for less than 1 hour onsite, filling some nail holes and caulking around flashing and other areas they charged us $800. They did lower it after we called them to talk about it. We are going to replace the roof in the next 2-3 years and had planned to just have them quote it, based on how they helped us with this. However, I am hesitant because I am not confident that they won't try to charge more than the quote or perform services I don't authorize.

The seller decided to replace the roof using R.A Woodall and we requested that the warranty information be provided. A year later a leak developed so we contacted R.A. Woodall and I spoke with Alan Woodall. He would not give me a date/time he could have someone look at the issue. I literally called and even texted him dozens of times. Alan would give excuses as to why they could not come out. One excuse was because he had a 400k job going and that was a higher priority. After a month after reporting the leak he finally sent out Butch who was very nice and attempted a repair. 2 weeks later the roof was leaking at the same place. I contacted R.A. Woodall again and spoke with Alan who says they are not sure when they can come out and also that this repair is workmanship related and is not covered under warranty (warranty is not transferable to new owner). We still requested they come out to have a look as they were the installer and should be most familiar with the roof and their workmanship. 2 weeks later and I have not received a response and meanwhile the damage inside the house is much worse. We resulted to calling another company to do the repair. In our experience R.A. Woodall is not responsive, does not honor their warranty and does not prioritize warranty work.

The new roof, fascia/eaves, and repairs on a deck that some other guys had totally botched, were completed by Boone's Home Repair in just a few days. Communication with us during the project start to finish was excellent and put us at ease. He sent daily pictures of the work and when our realtor went out to check on the property he was so impressed with Mr. Boone that he said he definitely wanted to keep in touch and hire him for other projects on his properties.
