After several calls from a driver that never showed up and a Triple A employee calling from Lake Oswego, both of whom lied and had rude and dismissive attitudes, a tow truck arrived just after 9:30 P.M. It took an hour or more to get the car on the flatbed and get to the garage in Bandon and for us to drive the 25 miles home from there. It was pouring rain and we were NOT, by the time the tow truck reached us , in a safe place. We were scared witless in the dark and the pouring rain. Tip: don't use AAA, especially anywhere on 101 or near it. Often your auto insurance has a roadside service included. Check on how that works. AAA does not insure the car it is a MEMBERSHIP, therefore if the MEMBER indicates that she in any way that she is not with the vehicle, which means not 5 minutes away, not 'on the way' AAA won't send a driver. They WILL NOT TELL YOU that you have to call again when you are physically at the vehicle. If they catch wind that anyone but the MEMBER attempted to start the car they may refuse service, claiming the MEMBER was not there when the car " broke down". AAA must be ready to go under because they are desperate to deny service. I was a AAA member for 25 years and when I told them to cancel my membership and pro rate the year's fee, (computed at $28,) I got a huge argument, from several levels of managers, based on the fact that I did, indeed, use their service one awful time. I did not accept their offer. BEWARE

So I thought a nice local agent from the well trusted AAA would be a good option. Wrong!!! The policy was good and reasonable on paper and then I had a pipe break behind a wall and cause major flooding damage to my home. My agent/broker encouraged me not to make a claim and then has not responded to any of my emails or calls since. CSAA is who my policy is actually through via AAA and working with them has been a nightmare! They act as if this is my fault and have straight up told me I don't have coverage for items that are clearly covered. I read every word of my policy and pamphlet after being treated so poorly and am still struggling to get everything owed to me. My home is uninhabitable as they had to tear out kitchen, cabinets, bathroom, and living room floors etc. My home is down to sub floor and open walls. I'm absolutely devastated and furious that my own agent hasn't checked in with me or responded to any of my communication. He should be helping me and acting as my advocate through this process. Instead I'm having to fight every step of the way and defend myself when I purchased a very comprehensive home owners policy. I understand it is their job to try and pay out as little as possible but it is also their job to protect their customers and support us in our time of need. Friends and family have stories of how easy it was to work with their insurance companies who said of course -do what needs to be done-in similar situations. Instead mine delayed the mitigation and dry out process for 6 weeks and treated me like a criminal. I reported the incident the second I noticed water under my foot and had the city turn off my water. Got a plumber out immediately-which is a miracle in Coos Bay-and it took him 2 hours to figure out where it was coming from behind the sink wall. Clearly not my fault. So frustrating! Do not recommend AAA insurance. Still very happy with my AAA membership for roadside assistance but don't be fooled like I was-that doesn't mean their insurance gives the same customer service!

I loved the Itty Bitty Inn so much!!!…read more This is easily the best motel that I have ever stayed at - or even heard of, for that matter. It is, in fact, so much better than the second-best motel that I don't even know what the second-best motel I've been to is! Not only is the Itty Bitty Inn now a must-stay for me on my next trip up the Oregon Coast, but it is so great that it has dramatically increased the likelihood that I will be driving back up the Coast soon. I'm still shocked that the Lonely Planet guide didn't mention it. Rick (the owner) is the coolest. The first thing that he did was give my friend and I a rundown of Coos Bay hotspots. Then he showed us to our beautifully decorated and upholstered rooms - we had the two Tiki-themed rooms, each of which had too much detail to even be done justice by a picture. He proceeded to then pour us complementary beers and directed us to the outdoor patio for lounging and decompression after our trip. I felt like the King of France! I now absolutely need to stay in every one of the rooms for at least a night (there are 5 total, each with a different theme). This is no trivial feat, as apparently new complete redesigns are always in the planning stages. I can't wait to see the place next time I'm in town!!!

Upon arrival we were welcomed with vibrant exterior colors and beautifully detailed murals, bright flowers, clean grounds, a buzzing neon inn sign and the most friendly hosts we could've asked for. The sign in process was personable, friendly, and easy going. The "lobby" offers gifts, drinks, local nik naks and much more! Rik the owner initially showed us our room which was the terrapin station "Grateful Dead" room. He was kind enough to explain the inns and outs of certain things throughout the room such as the record player and taking off our shoes to maintain the wellness of the space. Once we were settled in he offered us a complimentary locally sourced beverage of our choice. During our stay we genuinely enjoyed every second of it. The bed was cozy, records were turning, and relaxation was at a max! Can't express enough how grateful we are to have stumbled upon this lovely establishment. Peace and love brotha!

My bed was so comfortable and I'm use to a heated, waveless waterbed. I slept soundly. The view is killer. Right out on the bay. Every room has a great view and can watch nice sunsets. The grounds are well cared for. I've stayed here one other time and was fortunate to get a reservation. They book up quick. Our Priceline Pre-paid price for 2 nights was $169. Pictures attached pretty much describe our dinky room. 1. Our beautiful view of the bay from the bathroom. Unfortunately the fan didn't work so our exquisite views were horribly limited. 2. A mirror over the sink designed for short people. The mirror is functional as it does reflect just fine. You just have to bend over. 3. A circa... perhaps1972 gorgeous vintage chair most likely refurbished with gorilla tape...perhaps in 1994? I now realize I could have paid a bit more and reserved that luxurious "queen room with sea view" and even gotten a bit more space to walk around the bed. Check-in went smooth. I walked in the small lobby looking for a bell but there is none. Within a minute a dude walked in and gave me an actual metal key. The dude is also the housekeeper and seemed to be out of breath. But he was a nice guy. There was some gagging and coughing from someone next door. Other than that, the main noise was from cars and trucks along highway 101. Thankfully, there were no drunken fights, screams, known drug deals or cops called during our 2-night stay. So why the 2 stars when honestly nothing really went wrong? I suppose I expected a bit more. No...not more like Days Inn or Travel Lodge quality. But a bit more like maybe consider the clientele doesn't value that vintage 1970s taped up chair? The room smell was just...creepy. Like a bad smell where no spray is going to work. Actually, that is why our room doors were open when we arrived LOL. Or maybe consider re-setting the bathroom mirror so anyone over 5'7 doesn't have to bend over? Oh yeah...when you sit on the toilet it reminds me of sitting on my chair in 1st grade. My guess is that this is a vintage toilet from the late 60s. Entertainment: You could probably take a hike up to the top of the McCullough Bridge and watch a ship pass under the bridge or maybe the Coos Bay Railroad swing span bridge that rotates 90 degrees to allow 3 trains-a-week train traffic over the bay. Grub: Hilltop House is nice, but I haven't dinned there since the 80s so take caution. Moms Kitchen is a better bet for breakfast or lunch. Be prepared to wait... If you can't wait, then I suggest the Pancake Mill.
