Hollywood Bowl combines all the over stimulating noise, music, movement of hyperactive children…read more(and adults) with the finance-hoovering distractions you'd expect of such an establishment. This place isn't cheap - we were about £30 for 2 games of bowling for 2 adults and a child- and the online booking system is super confusing. Prices vary according to peak and off peak playing times. You must enter and exit through the gauntlet of the arcade where those of us with children cling desperately to our change and deny the availability of funds to our enraptured offspring! The arcade is one of those where you exchange hard (and expensively) won tickets for a variety of paltry pound shop sourced "treasures" like water snakes and those snappy bangles. The bowling set up is great- you can wear you own shoes if they're flat- a you can set up bumpers to only come up/down for certain players in your group. There's separate eating areas and a lounge for parties and staff were all helpful and accommodating.

I was so sure I'd already reviewed St Vincent BC! Oh well…read more.. I've been frequenting this bowling club for long and weary; both my dad and borther are now members and my uncle and grandpa have also been members in the past also. The halls have hosted various May family occasions; wakes, birthdays and my dad has threatened in the past that if ever I get married, this is where we're having the reception if he foots the bill! I might be biased since St Vincent BC has been an integral part of my life, but it is genuinely a brilliant club, filled with brilliant people. You can hire the hall for up to 100 people for any occasion, and the lovely catering ladies will also offer their services to prepare either a buffet, canapes or a sit-down meal for a pretty good price. You can also (provided you let the club know) bring in caterers or food from nearby establishments to cater your event; the club, in the past, has had Old Salty's, Crabshakk and Mother India's catering for them in the past. As is befitting any bowling club, the drinks prices are crazy cheap and there is generally a pretty good selection on hand. If you're organising an event and you need a specific drink, John on the bar can usually help you out in finding it and stocking it for you. The members and the board in the club are all true gentlemen (Again, I may be biased since I've known many of them since I was a wean!) - no problem is too big or small and they are more than willing to help you with anything. They are always more than happy to welcome new members of any age, so if you fancy coming down to try your hand at lawn bowls, just give them a call and someone can show you the rules and lend you some bowls!

The Hollywood Bowl provides a good alternative night out on the east end of Glasgow. Normally…read moreyou're limited to the cinema or going for something to eat, but if you fancy something a bit different that's heaps of fun this is a really good choice. Inside there are plenty of lanes for bowling, an arcade with a good amount of games, a bar if you fancy a drink and a cafe so you can get a bite to eat. The drink is on the pricey side, so much so that I do always end up driving when we visit. I'm not much of a drinker anyway, so I kinda grudge spending silly money on it. They have recently started using glow in the dark bowling, which is loads of fun for little kids and big kids alike. Last time we visited we took our son for the first time. It recommends on the website that your child should be 4 before you take them bowling, but there aren't any age restrictions in place so we thought we would give him a try. They didn't charge us for him to play and he really loved using the ramp to bowl. (He beat both of us fyi!) The cafe food is pretty decent too and reasonably priced with lots of options for all ages. My sometimes fussy toddler devoured his food before we spent a while in the arcade area, which is always a bonus for us. I've been here on massive rowdy work nights out and for a couple of games with friends on a rainy afternoon and I always come away thinking I wish I'd visit more. If you're looking for something different to do with a couple of hours then pay Hollywood Bowl a visit. You won't be disappointed.

My biggest complaint is that it is so extortionately expensive...for 3 games, 2 adults, was over £40...on a Monday night! I know that they have some deals (I think Tuesday), but seriously. That's a bit silly. Not to mention food and drink are pricey as well. Looking at the menu (I was starved and slightly squiffy) I was hoping to order something relatively healthy. Unfortunately it's the typical fast food, microwave, deep fryer stuff. Not very satisfying and most likely would leave a greasy film on the roof of your mouth. I decided not to order anything and stuck to wine. Which did NOT improve my bowling as I had hoped it would. Overall, a fun night. Games afterwards are always a giggle, so it's nice that they have such a selection of things to do. They also have pool and ping pong tables. I've not actually used those yet, but I imagine they will be between £1-£3 per game.

After a couple of ropey first holes, I got into the zone and was putting those balls away quicker than Tiger Woods (of an evening...). This hole is a 59 par you say? I'll do it in 1, no problem. Okay... so maybe it didn't go all that well but I did scoop a free ticket for my next crazy golf tournament after scoring a hole in one at the bonus round. Paradise Island Adventure Golf offers a fun day out for families and people of all ages whether it's couples, big groups or small groups. There are two rounds; one's more twists and turns and the other is more hills and slopes. We went for the hills and slopes option and it was great fun. It was quite busy when we went but it all just added to the excitement and everyone was getting into the spirit by "oohing" and "aahing" at other peoples attempts at scoring a hole in one (namely mine). At a reasonable price for a round, this crazy golf is a great option if you're looking to do something a little bit different of a rainy afternoon. So yeah, I'm just going to sit by the phone now and wait for the golf offers to come rolling in. Yep, any minute now...

I swear, Glasgow is getting smaller and smaller every day with all the places I've been discovering out. To be honest, we were only here for drinks and stood up at the bar the whole time, but looking around, there are loads of cozy, modern looking sofas and chairs all around with even more big screen TV's to watch sports on. There were even slot machines scattered about as well. While we were there, my boyfriend took me on a wee tour of the place to show me the golf screens, where there were loads of people having a blast playing a bit of golf. Not really our cup of tea, but I wouldn't pass up the chance to play if it came down to it. The staff were super friendly, and the people came and went in waves. One minute it seemed to be just us, then all of a sudden there were loads of people to the point of being snug up against each other, then once again, it was quiet, etc. That went on all night while we were there. I mentioned to a few friends that this place would be a good night out, and I believe that either Amazon Local or Groupon have a deal on just now for a round of golf plus a burger type deal. I recommend checking this place out if you're in to golf or just enjoy a good night out. I'm sure we'll be back!
