A little background. My mother's condition has been…read moredeteriorating both physically and mentally over the last 14 months. She's gone from hospital to nursing home, back to hospital, back to nursing home and then finally to an assisted living down in Vista. It was a very nice facility very clean, and pretty accommodating but I guess my mother is not the easiest person to deal with on a daily basis. So not long after her stay began we started getting phone calls that your mother's doing this, she's doing that and that her care level is going to go up as well as our fees.Within 3 months our cost had nearly doubled due to us being nickel and dimed for every little thing. So we decided a change was necessary and we also wanted to get her closer to other family members closer to Long Beach / Los Angeles. We did have another option of a board and Care place down in Oceanside but the trips to visit meant an entire day was taken up just by the travel back and forth. We decided to take a shot and we checked out Vista del Mar. I'm thinking we made the right decision. Though it took a while for my mother to accept the move to a different style place with a little looser atmosphere and kind of less stuffy attitude. From the people we first dealt with mainly Jessica and Rebecca down to the caregivers, housekeepers and maintenance, everything that is ever brought to their attention is promptly dealt with. I'm not saying there's too many things to deal with just saying that I think I am there more than a lot of visitors and from what I see everyone is pretty much on top of things over there. As I said before my mother is not an easy person to deal with but they seem to think she's a pleasure Anyhow since she has been there she now is able to fit into her slippers and shoes which she was unable to do at the prior facility due to her feet and ankles being excessively swollen and she wasn't very Mobile on her own at that point. Now there's times I show up and she walks around her room and she even walks herself to the dining area and she's wearing her shoes because obviously her medications are being given to her on a timely basis like I'm assuming maybe they were not before at the other facility. I'm very grateful for the care that she has receiving here and I really don't have anything negative to say about the place. Add in the fact that the aforementioned people Jessica and Rebecca and some others have volunteered assistance in possibly getting us to a more affordable level through programs because even though their rates are better than most it's still difficult for us people that are on a certain budget. That just added to the attraction of trying this place out and I'm glad that we did. It also doesn't hurt that my dog and best friend Conrad has become like a mascot of the place and spends every visit visiting with a lot of the other residents every time we are out there. All in all I don't even feel like I'm going to a facility when I show up over there it's just more like somewhere where my mother lives.

The owner was nothing more then a liar and a thief. first night my sister was there he called said to come get my sister or he was going to call 911 and have her placed on a 72hr hold. The next day I found Brittany house I spoke with Erin I let her know what had happen with beach homes she was so understanding of what was happing. I meet that same day with Erin she was amazing with in a few days my sister was moved to brittany house. Erin had gone out of her way to help and understand in a very difficult time. I went to see my father, was not told by anyone of the outbreak and business is being conducted as usual. I knocked on the door, to speak with the Executive Director, Joel. He ignored the knocks, kept sitting in his office and walked out when it was time for him to go home. I asked him did he answer the door. He acted like he couldn't hear me. Then said, "Sometimes, if I'm available!" I told him that I went in to see my father, was informed that I should have been told that I should wear a mask and gloves, he said "Yeah, and!" I told him, "You can walk away, I'm going higher!" He looked at me, looked at the receptionist, Marie and said "I gotta go!" Then left. The unit 5 area is not being, quarantined, residents do not have on masks, proper PPE is not in place, ventilation is not covered, and they are not doing anything the health department advised them to do. I waited for the health department to call me back, they advised Brittany House again, as of 5:00 pm. Over 2 hours later, nothing has changed. Some Alzheimer's patients regress when ill, this place is horrible! Joel, the Executive Director, is rude, incompetent, has no people skills, and he needs to be fired immediately! Updated: 24 hours later! The management has lied publicly and everyone needs to know. I personally spoke with the health department. I personally sat and waited for the Brittany House staff to put signs on the doors. I personally watched a staff member put signs on two of the entry doors at 5:30 PM. After Joel's incompetent, disrespectful, and uncaring self left at 5:00. After, ignoring my knocks on his door as I sat for 2 hours waiting for the health department to get back to me. I personally walked in 24 HOURS after the outbreak and no PROTECTION FOR RESIDENTS OR STAFF WAS IN PLACE! I filed a report with Brittany House (They're hiding this!), the Long Beach Health Department, the California Social Services Department, and a review here on Yelp (I joined to make this public.) I am my father's POA, I have not been contacted by Brittany House (phone nor email), this outbreak was 24 hours before my visit! It's been 72 hours! Visitors, workers, residents, and outside care providers are in and out daily. It's clear, this Joel guy has permission to do what he's doing. He's protected at the cost of over 100 venerable dementia patients, family that have very little choice. If I were on the top management of this company, he would not have reported to work today. He would be on an immediately administrative leave pending investigation with staff and residents. OR He would have been terminated IMMEDIATELY! Thank you for letting Brittany House! The environment they create is warm, uplifting, and full of life. The staff are amazing--friendly, compassionate, loving, and truly attentive. I originally settled on Crofton Manor because I found the staff very responsive, caring and I appreciated the spacious rooms. While Crofton Manor is an older building it is kept very clean, the shared rooms are larger and have a clever floor to ceiling closet divider which allows for more privacy than other places I visited. My dad and I both appreciate the access to patios, light and fresh air. He began living at Crofton February of 2020. Then Covid hit hard in March. After living through the last year of tremendous anxiety, and now looking back, I am very impressed with/grateful to Crofton Manor's handling of this epidemic. I have grown to trust Amalia (Director) and Claudia (Chief RN) to be fully informed, and protecting of all their residence by following CDC protocol. Its been a terribly stressful year during which Crofton has exactingly cared for its people. At last my dad had his first vaccination this month! Importantly, I need to stress how much I appreciate that anytime I call, my inquiries have been answered by a live person who cares and is competent (this has not been the case in previous residencies my father has lived)! The staff is the best, from Stephanie lead nurse to Arristeo head of maintenance, Dr. Phillip my dad's GP, the caregivers who work so hard, kitchen staff, receptionists and office management, all are great! I appreciated the on-call doctor, the monthly well-care visits by the nurse practitioner and the in-home delivery by the pharmacy. Also available was a podiatrist, hair dresser, PT and hygienist. This helped as my mom became less mobile. All holidays are celebrated with food and decorations. Family members are welcome. Birthdays are special. Students from Long Beach State engage the residents in various activities. A priest visits often. The owner is very hands-on and communicates as required. The residents live in a clean and safe environment. I would place another family member there.

Aileen the Life Enrichment Director keeps the residents engaged in invaluable group activities to keep minds and bodies active. Chef Kristine and her staff do a wonderful job preparing 3 quality meals a day and catering regular special events for residents to enjoy. Tony in charge of Maintenance has been an upbeat Mr. Fixit also overseeing laundry and housekeeping services. Business Office Manager Davina ensures billing is accurate and my parents residency remains in good standing. Long Beach, CA., when the nurse is waiting at front lobby, the first thing the HR ask is to apply for a permanent nurse position, which is emphasized throughout orientation by not just HR, IT, D.O.N as well, so when new hired nurse gives no response to be a permanent nurse with Harborview the team of nurses sabotages the new hired nurse to get fired; by the way UNI PAY is over $10.00 to $15.00 higher than Harborview. (1) False Hope is Fraud, (2) Deceitful and Misleading, only to sabotage nurse for permanent lower pay. UNI should to straight forward with the nurse's and open with Harborview searching hire permanent nurse staff for lower pay. Harborview has a strange way of attempting only to hire a nurse an extremely strange way to have to new nurse fired due to being brainwashed by a nurse recruiter UNI that pays higher hourly then only to discover during Harborview orientation that the nurse's only purpose for being there is in hopes to have a new permanent nurse, which is fraud, discietful, misleading by both UNI and Harborview. This can cause a lawsuit by many nurse's against UNI and Harborview. Plus Harborview is a ghetto place to work, and does not hire white nurse's only nurse's of other race and color; Harborview is not culturally diverse. I work for many travel nurse and local nurse agencies for 30 years and I never came across a nurse agency like UNI and Harborview, especially UNI, THIS IS A BUG NO NO.
