Did you know that Glassons is from New Zealand? Perhaps that's why it's always a little bit behind the fashion eight ball...
Not to be rude to any Kiwis that might be reading this, but New Zealand isn't exactly the fashion mecca of the world; it, like Australia, must play catchup on the Northern Hemisphere and its fashion star - Paris, Milan, New York, London, Stockholm...
So, anyway - Glassons. Going to Glassons is always a perfectly pleasant experience, but I do find the clothes a little bit behind; not exactly last season, but not stuff that will last you the rest of the summer/winter and still be bang on trend. However, it's one of my best places to shop for basics - they do a mean cashmere cardigan, and some of their little summer dresses are pretty.
Glassons is also amazingly reasonably-priced. Think of other stores in that little niche - Dotti, Portman's, even Kookai and Witchery all make beautiful women's clothes for work and play. But only Glassons is a store that I can afford to shop at with any regularity; it's prices are more student, less working professional.
The shop itself is quite small, but well put together - outfits for different occasions are created together, and live together. Such a concept is so practical, but so rarely enforced by retailers across Australia. The staff are all pretty young girls who are well-informed about their products and generally very helpful.
All in all, a pleasant shopping experience; just not a particularly inspired one. read more
