Reena Beauty Salon - Waxing

Reena Beauty Salon has just earned itself a new regular. I was looking online for an affordable…read moreplace to get my eyebrows threaded - previously, I had either had them tweezed or trimmed at facials, or waxed at Benefit, but ever since my first ever time having my eyebrows threaded in Singapore, I've realized that I actually prefer this method over tweezing and waxing. After doing a quick Google search - keywords 'inexpensive eyebrow threading HK', Reena Beauty Salon came up in a couple of forums. Their website stated that eyebrow threading was just $60, so I figured, why not? I happened to be in Central today and while waiting for my mother, decided that this was as good a time as any to go to try it out. I called and asked if it would be all right for me to come in for an eyebrow threading in about half an hour's time, and was told that it was no problem. So off I went - it's actually hidden in an old building in LKF, so it's a little bit of an uphill trek to get there. Its website states that it's on the 7th floor of Winner Building, and the directory board on the ground floor says so too, but both have not been updated - the salon is actually on the 4th floor now, so do take note of that. Reena herself is clearly very professional and experienced, and I was in and out of there in ten minutes - no joke. I couldn't believe how quick it was! When she was done with one eyebrow, she asked me if she wanted it thinner or if this was okay, and I told her I wanted it just a teeny bit thinner. I was afraid I was going to regret saying this and that she was going to go overboard with that request, but thankfully, she didn't! If all you need is a quick eyebrow threading session, Reena's Beauty Salon is perfect, and not to mention inexpensive. It's far from glamorous - it's not air conditioned (though there's a fan), and it's in an abandoned building with a dingy lobby and lifts that creak. If you're looking to be treated like a star, this isn't the place for you. Oh, one thing I noticed was that after the threading, there were bits of eyebrow hair on my face (she didn't buff it off after threading), but it wasn't really an issue - I just brushed it away with a tissue. Overall, I'm definitely glad I found this place and it'll be my go-to from now on!

I'm not entirely satisfied with either one yet so it's my goal to try more beauty salons around town before I settle for a package. Pros: - Convenient location. Right above Sheung Wan MTR exit A2. - Very reasonable and affordable pricing. Even if you don't buy packages with them, it's just $380. For reference, Nova @ ~$1k; Plurecil @ ~$800 and other local salon at around $500 each time. You get a very basic set up. I guess that's one of the ways that they keep the cost low. - Relatively quick turnaround time. It took the lady about an hour. For reference, Nova @ 1.5 hr; Plurecil @ a little more than 1hr and local salon @ 40 mins Cons: - No privacy. Set up can be considered as quite ghetto for some. - Does not accept credit card payment. Cash only. - Wait time. Maybe because I came here right before Chinese New Year, I need to wait a little bit even though I have made an appointment with them. - If you don't speak Chinese, you might have problem communicating to them. So be sure you have google translate ready / have a friend translate for you. It's my first day doing it so i'll come back to complete my review when i know how long my lashes last.

The price is average but definitely cheaper for the quality it gives when compared to the US (Hatoe is about 50 USD for good quality. In America, for the same quality would be at least 80 USD). If you plan on consistently maintaining extensions, I'd suggest buying the packet prices (one option is 3 lash services for 1,000 HKD). Quality: the lash quality is amazing! Super light, comfortable and natural looking. TIP: don't opt for the extra 100 hkd for a "more natural feel." I'm pretty sure it's a scam because I stopped paying for the "more natural lash" and it looks exactly the same. It even lasts the same amount of weeks too. Service: pretty good for Asia and it's also helpful that the staff speaks English. Staff recommendations: Nicole does an amazing job with lashes. I'd suggest booking in advance to ensure that you have a spot with the person you like.

I'm still on a quest to find the best beauty spa in Hong Kong. However, I have come across a few…read moregood ones already. One of them is Ayuverda, located in Elgin Street, Soho. I desperately needed my eyebrows to be taken care of and I had been postponing this until I found a place I felt comfortable with. You girls know what I mean. I think eyebrow threading qualifies as a critical treatment, in the same group as getting your hair cut or done, you cannot really afford to make a mistake when it comes to all that. The only remedy is usually time. So, I browsed around in the Internet and saw someone recommending Ayurveda in a random blog thread. I made an appointment for after work and armed myself with courage. One of the greatest things about Ayurveda is the staff. They are extremely kind and always make you feel at home. Their customer service is excellent. While waiting for my treatment, I was offered a drink and was invited to chill out. That was exactly what I needed. I felt into a great state of peace...their waiting room is cozy and very quiet and they invite customers to keep it that way by turning down their phones. When my therapist was ready, on time for my appointment, she led me into a tiny room and asked me to lay down on the stretcher, as that was easier for her to work on my eyebrows. When she asked me exactly what I wanted, I explained my concerns about the eyebrows looking right, just keeping the original shape. She got it from the beginning and kept checking on me along the treatment. She did an excellent work and added a new customer to their base. I cannot recommend enough Ayurveda. A friend of mine came along with me next time I did my eyebrows for a waxing and she shares my opinion. Not only is worth this place for the quality of their treatment, but also for the atmosphere and the great way the whole experience makes you feel. Appointments are highly recommended though, as they are usually pretty busy.

There was always an uncomfortable sales push afterwards, whether it be for products or future services. Today I was waiting for 15 minutes before being told that the technician was running late and would arrive in 45 minutes. Ummm... if you arrive somewhere over an hour later than what was promised, that's more than running late. I advised that I felt that was rude. There were no comments such as "I'm sorry" or "this never happens" or "let me make this up to you". I was merely asked if I'd like to reschedule. Nope. The services here have plummeted. Never again.had a few facials here

The lovely side of this spa is the service and the prices. It pretty much ends up there, but…read morehonestly, I don't need much more when those two are as amazing as they are at Lovely Spa. I randomly saw the place while walking up Lan Kwai Fong Street and took one of their leaflets outside their building. As I flicked through, my face turned into a 'no way!' expression...50 HKD for eyebrow threading? 230 HKD for a Brazilian wax? I called them and made an appointment two days later. Don't get put off by the building; yes, it seems like it's falling apart but the place itself is welcoming and very clean. I got there just in time and was welcomed with some water before the therapist led me to one of their (three) rooms. I wanted to get my eyebrows done but my expectations weren't high. However, I asked her for advice on how to reshape them. She took her time and made a couple of observations, which made me feel more comfortable, then just got onto it and in a matter of 10 minutes I was out. My thoughts: very professional, quick and well performed. This is what you get anywhere else in Hong Kong, but for 120 HKD and not much advice. As I came out of the room I saw two people getting a manicure and it looked so good, I made the next appointment! Just be warned of two things: it's cash only and there is no lift to the 3rd floor.

After climbing up a couple of storeys of shabby stairs (just follow the arrows printed on A4 paper) you reach Lovely Spa. Ring the doorbell and you'll be let in to a small, dark room which is decorated quite cheaply yet comfortably. The treatment rooms are divided by thin plastic walls so you can hear every word being said within the tiny space and other spa goers can hear every wax strip being torn off which can be a little off putting. However, the service is professional and the price is SO CHEAP that you can ignore the basic fit out. It's literally only $230 for a Brazilian wax - half the price of places like Nude and Nu and the results are as good. Hot Stone Massages are only $300 whilst a spa manicure is $130. I bring my own colours for manicures but the range of options is reasonable. The cash only policy is a little annoying but understandable for such a small operation. All in all, Lovely Spa is not the best choice for a luxury, indulgent experience, but for basic grooming at a price you can't beat, this is the place.
