But you can't be shy if you go there because people will not initiate conversation on their own. I did talk to two . Gentleman in their 80s that were very sweet . It's interesting cuz they were both named Bob. If they have staff are you see anyone . And no one spoke to me even though I stood by the front desk for a minute where there was a receptionist. So that was disappointing because I think in a senior center there should be someone to come up and say hello I was there from 2:00 to 4:00. I will go again because they do have lots of activities that I read about. But because it was food day after people got their food from the pantry they just left and it went from being about 35 people to four people. That includes myself

We rented the Chandler Ballroom + Kitchen for an afternoon/evening. The Ballroom was spacious, easily seating our ~115 guests, and well-lit, with large, north-facing windows providing ample indirect light. We were pleased that the room came with tables & chairs and with the professional-grade kitchen appliances. The large ovens & refrigerator were perfect for storing and reheating our food. Sarah, the staff member with whom we worked, made the entire process very easy! She was flexible, knowledgeable, and responded quickly to our many questions. She gave us a diagram of the Ballroom's floorplan that she made, which was incredibly helpful, and gave us a tip about looking at Special Occasions in Corvallis for event rental services (tablecloths, tableware, etc). To top it all off, the venue rental was reasonably priced - it was much more affordable than other options in Corvallis & Portland. Thank you very much to the CCC and Sarah for helping make our wedding plans a reality! If we ever need to plan a large gathering in Corvallis in the future, the CCC will be our first choice :)

I once went with a small group of women to the annual banquet put on by the culinary arts program at the JC in Albany, and thought the company very agreeable. And there was a resourceful local tour operator functioning then. Now activities have contracted dramatically. This is a femi-centric organizational culture, working acceptably for women and couples (I presume). As a single man, the way I have been spoken to and treated is NOT acceptable and, I admit, I don't go in for pool or board or card games, where the men seem to congregate. I frankly don't think the city-sponsored senior center in North Salem is doing any better; how we treat the vulnerable in our society is an ongoing problem.

But this experience today was such a let down. I walked in and checked in with an older man who was very sweet. He was asking me some background questions and the woman who was supposed to 'shop' us walked up to us. She looked us up and down and didn't smile. She stood there awkwardly for a few minutes before leaving to use the bathroom. She came back and started to help us. Immediately we felt uncomfortable. Straight faced she asked us what we wanted and just stood in silence when not telling us what we could have. It was so awkward I tried to make small talk with her just to break the weird silence. Towards the end, a Russian woman came in and started talking to her. She totally ignored us and started speaking in only Russian, and turned her back to us. She turned around a few times to look at what we were getting and then said 'great, you're done, you can go.' And then turned to speak more to the woman in Russian. I felt this was very rude. We just lost a child and are treated this way. I appreciate the help throughout this past year but will not be returning here..
