Some of the services Gilda's Club chapters offer are support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social events in a nonresidential, homelike setting. The club was named in honor of the original Saturday Night Live cast member Gilda Radner who died of ovarian cancer in 1989. For those of you that are too young to remember, her husband was also one of my favorite comedians Gene Wilder. He was devastated upon her death. I'm doing this review to make this wonderful not for profit known. I don't hear about it as much on the news. If you are in need this is one more place you may want to contact. I'm recommending.

Some organizations exist simply to fill a gap. And then there are the rare ones, the ones born from…read morea person's very soul, that exist to change lives. The Power of You Teens is unquestionably the latter. I have had the extraordinary privilege of knowing Felicia Gibson-Jaycox, the founder of this incredible organization, for over 25 years. Long before The Power of You Teens had a name, a mission statement, or a single program, I knew who Felicia was at her core: a woman with a heart for service, a gift for lifting others, and a vision for what was possible. I was there at her very first Empowerment Experience, watching something beautiful take root. To see what has grown from that seed is nothing short of miraculous. Felicia has always been a phenomenal human being, stunning inside and out, radiant in spirit, and relentless in her desire to give back. She left the world of television not because she lost her passion, but because she found a bigger one. And the girls who walk through the doors of The Power of You Teens are the living proof of what happens when purpose meets action. Now, more than two decades later, I am no longer just a witness to her mission. I am a grateful mother who enrolled her 11-year-old daughter in it. And I want to be clear: we travel from Long Island to attend these events. Every single time, it is worth every mile. My daughter and I have had the joy of attending multiple events, and each one has left a mark on both of our hearts. At the UNSTOPPABLE Vision Board Experience, hosted by the dynamic Déjà Vu, my daughter was completely in her element. The energy in that room was electric. Girls dreaming out loud, mapping their futures, being surrounded by powerful women who looked like them and who poured into them without reservation. My daughter didn't just make a vision board that day. She began to see herself differently. That is not a small thing. That is everything. At the Love Starts With Me Valentine's Day Self-Love Experience, the atmosphere was equally transformative: warm, joyful, affirming, and alive. Girls laughing. Girls connecting. Girls being seen, celebrated, and reminded of their worth. My daughter came home standing a little taller and speaking a little bolder. And I sat in that space as a mom feeling something I didn't even know I had been searching for: community. Here is something I carry with me as a mother. My daughter doesn't always see girls who look like her where we live. That matters more than people sometimes understand. Walking into a room full of beautiful Black and brown girls, girls who share her experiences, her heritage, her brilliance, watching her face open up with recognition and belonging is a gift I cannot put a price on. The Power of You Teens gives her that, every single time. This organization is doing the sacred, essential work of ensuring that girls of color are seen, supported, and prepared, not just to survive, but to thrive. To be confident, college bound, and career ready. To be the leaders this world is waiting for. If you have a daughter, a niece, a mentee, a neighbor's child, any girl between the ages of 11 and 18, please do not wait. Get her connected to The Power of You Teens. You will not regret it. She will not forget it. Felicia, thank you for saying yes to your calling all those years ago. Thank you for building something that would one day hold my daughter. What you have created is extraordinary, and we are so honored to be part of the Power Girls family. thepowerofyouteens.org @powerofyouteens

Ms. Felicia (the founder and organizer) and her team were welcoming and created a positive environment for the girls to interact, learn, and enjoy. I was in the hallway and overheard the girls singing, dancing, and engaging with one another. I highly recommend this organization for parents who want their girls to be part of a positive environment--signed, Thankful Dad!

We were advised to set-up a Pooled Trust for her. We found Everfund on the internet. First, we spoke to David, who was so kind, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. We had many questions, and he answered each and every one of them in a way that we could fully understand. We met with Shuey, who was so polite, respectful, and VERY patient. We decided right on the spot to open a Pooled Trust with Everfund. We have since had the pleasure to speak with Rachel and Leah. Again, we were shown such respect and patience. I don't know how we'd go through this process without them. Thank you!

Adult volunteers like me are matched with children from age 5 to young adulthood. It was founded by Ernest Kent Coulter in 1904! Check to see if you have a Chapter in your City as we do in New York. Everyone knows I have a been volunteering and I especially love being involved with children youth programs of all ages. At one time I was a Big Sister and I hate to admit I was a little young and naive at the time. I moved a lot from one state to another and told my little sister I would write. Naturally we lost contact. I want to recommend this to anyone Big Brother or Big Sister who will be dedicated to making a life better. If you have a stable life and you know your reasons for taking on this responsibility are sincere then please consider.

This is a group of self-organized volunteers that routinely camp out on streets across Manhattan…read morelate at night (i.e., 11pm -2am), several times a month to hand out supplies to the homeless. Nothing wrong with helping the needy. But here are the problems I've experienced first-hand, and why this is probably the most tone-deaf and destructive charity to the local communities in Manhattan: 1) Illegal and RECKLESS parking and set-up on public streets: They come to my block on the Upper East Side with 3-5 large vans, and draw large crowds of homeless people (who are not from the local neighborhood. I know because I would recognize those guys). They set up their vans and food stands literally several FEET OFF the exit of E 59th St highway (why??), thereby blocking the entire street and making it impossible for cars speeding down from the highways to pass through. I've confirmed their reckless parking/set-up is NON-PERMITTED and NYPD had to move them 2) TRASHING THE STREET / USING THE CITY AS A DUMPING GROUND: They come in from Dobbs Ferry, and use the city as a dumping ground in the name of "doing charity." The organization ends up trashing the whole street with every visit. In the morning after, there are always litter, spilled food and drinks, paper plates and cups, tons of filth on the streets and in front of my apartment building. 3) Invading PRIVATE RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY and causing DISTURBANCES: I live in a 5-story, typical UES walk up. My street is quiet and lined with other residential buildings. It's a quaint street and people are usually home / in bed by midnight or 1am. These volunteer mofos literally set up their stands OUTSIDE the apartment building doors, directly IN and BLOCKING the walk way of an apartment building - as if the charity OWNS the building. As a result, I have 20-30 homeless people gathering and loitering outside my apt building into the wee hours of the night - and they're not quiet either. There are PLENTY of other more spacious streets/avenues nearby, with commercial buildings that are closed for the night, where they can go. 4) CREATED HOSTILITY IN MY COMMUNITY: Their operations often invite hostile homeless people who are NOT directly from my local neighborhood. As mentioned above, because Midnight Run chooses to set up their operations right in front of a residential building, homeless men and professional PANHANDLERS often end up loitering RIGHT outside my apt doorway. One mofo who was not homeless, but asking for handouts, even yelled racial slurs as I was trying to enter my building ("Go back to Korea!" (not Korean) while he was standing in my home. And guilting me with such remarks as, "You have a condo while these people are homeless!" also while he was standing in my home.) 5) People running this operation are TARGETING THE WRONG NEIGHBORHOOD andIGNORANT of the homeless epidemic pervading the city: If you want to help and truly make an IMPACT to a neighborhood, set up your operations somewhere people actually NEED HELP (i.e., South Bronx) - or drop off your supplies or SET UP YOUR OPERATIONS DIRECTLY OUTSIDE A HOMELESS SHELTER, OR A PUBLIC PARK...and NOT an UES residential building . The other review talks about how great this organization is. But that's only one side of the story.
