I'm glad I found some nice ladies in my area where parking is convenient in the afternoon. For years I use to take my son to a young kid owned barber shop with loud obnoxious music and guys drinking around, but thank god for Govanni' Barber Shop and Yelp for making it possible to have a decent shop reachable! This business usually does a first come first serve basis and they do not take any appointments. That's all fine but when asking the workers as to how long the wait times will be you can expect a very inaccurate answer too it! For example if you go in and ask they may say 15-20 minutes but you end up waiting like a hour or more and when asking the workers they'll act is if they did not know it would take longer when they're really did! I know time can be important and getting a accurate wait time can be important this business simply does not offer that! read more

I brought it up to the barber and she was completely indifferent about it. Seriously? that's an injury! The scars were almost bleeding at the moment! I saw that Giovanni's was closer by and was already getting great reviews on Yelp, so I thought I'd give them a shot. Best cut I've gotten in years! Parking is tricky with the meters, but I think they were about $1 an hour and they are the kind that take cards. While searching on Yelp for the nearest and dearest barber shop in my area, I came across this hidden gem. The shop was nearby, It had accumulated 5 stars, and the reviews were superb. I decided, why not? Well, Giovanni's Barber Shop: Here goes another great review. Finding the location can be a bit tricky. It is across the Chase Bank on Van Nuys/Sylvan, and is next to a "Hair Fashion" Salon & Tailor Place (which have nothing against Giovanni's.) I came in early in the morning, which I suggest doing for minimal wait times. Pricing varies from $13-$15, based on the length/style of cut desired. You're facing the TV in the middle of the room the entire time, but there are plenty of mirrors around so that you can see your cut's progress when desired. All in all, it's a very clean, comfortable, Italian/New York-themed shop. My barber's name was Marylyn, and she was an absolute joy. I was unsure of what to do with my hair, but she managed to save the day (and my hair) by providing me with tons of input and suggestions. You could tell that she was a very experienced barber, and knew exactly what she was doing. A great help! In conclusion, Giovanni's Barber Shop is a very comfortable and affordable barber shop with friendly, experienced barbers eager to satisfy. I've been going to Giovanni's since I was a little boy. I used to live down the street and my parents would give me money for a haircut. as I got older I tried other barbershops and they did a decent job, but never quite what I was looking for. The only reason I got haircuts elsewhere was because of distance. Now I strictly go to Giovanni's because I know him and the other guys there will never give me a haircut I wont be proud of. I have taken friends to Giovanni's and now they are loyal customers. Giovanni's is old school all the way from the decor to the attitude. I've been bringing in my son for his hair cut until today. No longer coming in. We came in on Sumday for his haircut around 10:50am. He was sat down with the male barber who is still learning. One hour later he is still cutting his hair. Then from their my son gets transferred to another barbers chair so she can fix his hair. Keep in mind, he's 15yr old boy with short hair and its taking this long. Never coming back!!! read more

I have been to many barbers in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Hollywood, but I came to the Valley today and needed a haircut so I found this place on Yelp, and decided to give them a chance. Giovanni's is an old schoolish type barber shop. Equiped with the straight blade for the back of your neck, comfy chairs, and an affordable price that probably hasn't changed since the OG 90210 went into sindication($10 for normal cut). There is the occasional movie star sitting next to you when your getting lined up, and always a soccer game on the tube. Giovanni still works there, but as far as fades go, the younger guy is the best I've found from Thousand Oaks to Santa Monica. Highly recommended, and for $10, you'd be an idiot not to check it out. read more

Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a great haircut without having to wait for hours. They accepts all walk-ins no appointment needed. I live in the LA area (HighLand Park) but my girlfriend lives here in Van Nuys so I called Giovanni's barber shop and spoke with Cristina very nice lady btw and she said there's a 10-15 mins waiting time which was perfect unlike most barber shop where the wait time is 30-45 mins sometimes an hour. Alicia was the stylist who cut my hair and she was amazing. She knew exactly everything I wanted for my haircut without having to explain myself. She knew how much to cut and where details needed some work to be done. She also cleaned my eyebrows which was something I've never experienced in a barber shop but she was right on the money.
