His kid son was also there. Which didn't bother me but it may be something you may want to know since you may have to watch kid movies/shows the entire time. The fade wasn't completely blended in on one side and he pushed my hairline back just a bit, but it was nothing major. I probably wouldnt come back, but it definitely wasn't awful. Living in LA for 5 years, I guess my standards are just a bit higher.

I have been going to this place since the 1990s. In those days it was a great barber shop. The…read moreguys knew what they were doing, were cordial and the price was right. How the times have changed! Lately I've been going back here even though I no longer live in the area. Since the end of Covid I have not had one good haircut here. None of the barbers seems to know how to give a normal, regular haircut. They can shave your head or give you a crew-cut, but "regular" haircuts are just not an option. Either they neglect the sides and leave you with straggly hair around the ears (!), or they screw up the back and put a line in it after you tell them "no line," or they leave weirdly long, uncut strands here and there in front that you have to fix yourself when you get home. The last straw was the guy who works by the window. On my most recent visit (which will also be my last EVER), he yanked and pulled very aggressively with the comb, pulling out hair by the roots. As if this wasn't painful enough, he placed the comb at my hairline, pressed down as hard as he could, then gouged it backwards causing EXTREME pain. I decided to "be a man" and say nothing but the pain was out of this world -- never had anything like that in my life. When I got home and shampood, the sting was so painful I realized he had cut the scalp in several places and I was bleeding. It took TWO WEEKS for the wounds to heal and the scabs to fall off. Explain to me how a middle aged man who is in the business of cutting hair could be SO STUPID as to not know how to comb it without tearing it out by the roots or carving bloody scratches into your scalp. Either he is a moron or he was giving me "the treatment" so I would never return, which is strange since I always tip $3 and am very nice to them no matter how inept the haircut. UNBELIEVABLE. Again, I will NEVER go back to this place!

However, the primary reason my experience is always excellent at Union is Tee -- he consistently provides an awesome haircut, great conversation, and makes the process seamless. I've been getting my hair cut by Tee for about 5 years now, and I can confidently say that I'll always trust Tee to give me an excellent cut. I've since moved further away, and my drive to the shop is an hour, but it's worth it to know I'm always going to get the same consistent experience, professionalism, and be able to catch up with Tee. After all this time, Tee knows my preferred style without asking any questions, and also knows how to adapt to however my hair decides to behave on the day of (even when I end up missing a couple weeks and going longer between cuts.
