I searched Borough market until I found Ginger Pig for it's been all over Instagram so of course I had to try it! There was 1 person ahead of me in line. I asked for the best seller and was informed it was the sausage roll. It was very filling and the pastry was flaky and it held the sausage together well ( it did not get soggy or fall apart).
I am NOT a fan of borough market BUT with being said it is interesting to walk around and more time than not something stands out enough (or at least the sign does) that will steal my money. On this trip Ginger Pig was the culprit. Of all the times in England my husband had never tried a sausage roll. When we walked by the Ginger Pig he decided that today was the day. NOTE - do NOT go up to the counter. There will be a que and stay there until called. There were a variety of options but by the time we got to the counter only the original was available (which was totally fine). It is a clean counter there and behind the scenes also appeared to be sanitary. You will have to stand or grab a spot on the curb to sit down and enjoy your selection. Since there was no comparison to make my husband said that it was excellent and a good choice. It was not lacking and very filling. I thought it was funny that right around the corner is another sausage roll stall that claims to have the best as well.
I didn't expect the sausage roll to be this good but wow I was very pleased! I walked up around 11am on a Tuesday and there was no line. The woman was kind and took my order right away. Instead of grabbing a sausage roll from behind the glass, she handed me a resh one and it nice and hot! Maybe too hot for some people but I love my food very hot! The crust of the roll was so crispy on the outside but soft inside and the sausage was seasoned perfectly! The whole thing was just so perfect and enjoyable to eat. Overall I would come back for another on. Definitely worth the £7 !!
I visited the Ginger Pig Stall at Borough Market twice in a recent vacation. Once for a Scotch Egg and once for a Sausage Roll. Both are associated with traditional UK foods, and I thought Ginger Pig did a great job with each. The color and texture of the Sausage Roll pastry were right on. The sausage was delicious. I'm a novice with Scotch Eggs, but this checked all the boxes for me. Except that I would prefer it warm to the cold version served. But I understand cold is traditional. Ginger Pig is also a meat shop if you're looking for meat to cook at home. 4.5 Stars
Because of all the social media hype, I went to Borough Market on a Tuesday (don't go on Monday because it's CLOSED) to try the Sausage Roll at Ginger Pig. Additionally, I purchased a chicken and bacon meat pie that I needed to bake in an oven. The other pie choice was beef and kidney. As expected, there was a line a people waiting to order, but it moves by fast since the products are already hot and ready to go. Originally, I was going to get one sausage roll, but I ended up getting two. If I had only tried the sausage roll, I would have given the place a 3--it's good, but I don't understand the hype of sausage in a pastry. However, for dinner that evening, I baked the pie per the instructions on the wrapper and I have to say, it's the pie that is the star of the show. Inside the pie, there's a good amount of filling and it's smoky. Is it the bacon or the chicken? Maybe both. Whichever it may be, get the meat pie if you have an oven to bake it in.
Ginger Pig is a must at Borough Market. My friend from London and others told me that a sausage roll was just something you needed to try at least once when in the UK, and getting it from Ginger Pig is the best. Therefore, I waited in the long line for a sausage roll - and can honestly say, it was worth it. Although Ginger Pig has multiple locations, the one in Borough Market is popular. Ginger Pig is just a walk-up stand where the rolls are in the case and you order what kind and how many with the staff, which they give you in a paper bag. I only wanted to try the original sausage roll, which was the pork one, and it was incredible. Incredible! The pastry was buttery and perfectly wrapped around the humungous, freshly-ground pork meat that was juicy and tasty. My mistake was only getting one, since I didn't know how delicious it was, but I highly recommend that if you wait in line for a sausage roll from Ginger Pig, you better get a bunch! I wish I had. But I'm glad I was able to try a sausage roll for the first time at the best place in London for it.
Famous for a reason! The Ginger Pig located in Boroughs market is famous for their sausage rolls. I stopped by after church. I waited in line about 15 minutes. By the time I made it (13:00) they were sold out of chicken options. The pastry is delicious and there is a good amount of meat. As others have said it is a little on the oily side but still a good bite and well flavored.
So much of traditional Britain in a few perfect bites! The Ginger Pig sausage roll is about as close to tasting the long history of local pork stewardship of which the country is so proud. Wrapped in a short crusted shell, there's truly little better to represent all that's excellent in British culinary cuisine.
Stopped by and finally tried the viral sausage roll. The guys working were both really nice and there wasn't any line (unlike what I've seen online) but I did go right when they opened. They had 3 flavours including traditional and a blue cheese option. I got the traditional one and the sausage meat was really good. The pastry was delicious but a little soggy. I waited to eat it so it's probably better if you eat it right away. Definitely worth the hype but I personally prefer sausage rolls with caramelised onions for added flavour.
Fantastic Traditional Sausage Roll with a flaky crust. Tons of flavor so no sauce is needed but try it with their small jar of mustard. It's easy to see why this place is so popular.
This was another place in Borough Market that many online had also suggested, and after seeing the line for this place it looked like many others also got the memo. While it did seem long at first, I only waited 10-15 minutes since it moved pretty quickly. I decided to get their original sausage roll and I am glad I waited around to try it. It comes pretty hot so you need to be careful eating it, but it is quite sizable so it's one that can definitely be shared (especially if you plan on checking out other booths in the market). The meat is really juicy and flavorful, while the outside has a nice flaky crust to it. It's a very rich roll, and I can tell that the meat they used was very high quality. Overall I think that it lives up to the hype and is definitely worth waiting in line for if you're in London.
Amazing sausage roll. Our favorite in London and in the market. Will definitely recommend getting here before 10 to make sure you avoid the line, but also worth the wait.
Located in Borough Market this stall specializes in Sausage Rolls and Scotch Eggs but they are also a butcher selling fresh pork. We came on a Saturday and like most other popular stalls there is a lineup to order food and for the most part it moves fairly well. We waited about 15-20 minutes. The sausage roll comes ready to eat and is hot! The pastry was light and flakey with a very generous filling of sausage meat. The scotch egg is cold but is ready to eat. The egg was cooked well and there was a generous layer of sausage meat surrounding it. While this was cold I would recommend eating it the same day purchased. You can ask them to cut the items in half so that it is easier to eat.
We sought out the sausage roll at the Ginger Pig, which did not disappoint. The sausage roll was hefty, freshly made and quite warm. Finding a spot to enjoy it at the Borough Market was a little challenging, but we figured it out. The crust was tender and flakey, and sausage filling was packed with flavor. We were in London for 2 nights and the sausage roll was definitely one of the tastier bites of this trip. We were at the Borough Market during the lunch rush and we had to queue up - it was worth it! They have multiple locations. read more

I actually saw this first on TikTok. This was the second sausage roll I had in London, the first being the one at Gregg's. This sausage roll was meant to be eaten warm and had a nice crunch. I bought a lamb roll, which was so hefty and definitely filled me up. The service was quick as there were no other customers. The ambiance is lovely and quite loud s it was in the center of one of London's famous markets. read more
The line was long, but it moved pretty quickly. We only ordered the traditional sausage roll. The sausage roll came out hot, so it was definitely fresh, which was a plus. It had a large chunk of ground pork inside that reminded me of the texture of a meatball. Flavor-wise, it tasted similar to a Costco chicken sausage, but with pork instead. The outside was made with soft, layered pastry, but it was a little bland and lacked the buttery, flaky texture I was expecting. Overall, the filling was a bit too heavy on the ground pork for our taste, and neither the pastry nor the filling had enough seasoning to really stand out. As for the ambiance, it's a simple order at the counter setup. You wait in line, place your order, pay, and most people stand around the shop to eat. The sausage roll was served hot, so it was definitely fresh. read more

Who would have guessed that meat in a roll would be so flavorful and delicious?! This is some of the best British food I had while in London. It was the definition of British food, but it actually had flavor in every bite. The spice kicked in and it was fantastic. My only advice is to let it cool down a bit before you take a bite, unless you want your mouth to melt off or burn your taste buds off. But definitely worth a visit. read more

If you are running about Boroughs Market you MUST get a sausage roll from the Ginger Pig. Hands down the most unique and delicious bite for me from the day. In the states we don't have proper sausage rolls and for the last year after the social media influence around sausage rolls I've been dying to get one. The Ginger Pig lives up to the hype and makes an amazing roll. I learned that this sausage roll is made with more prime ingredients then the traditional fast food sausage roll that you can get from Greg's, etc. I was told the sausage pork makeup of this roll is much more quality mixings and that was definitely apparent when it comes to taste. The outer pastry was light and fluffy. The inside was a huge thick piece of sausage, I was shook. But man does it taste delicious! Super rich and flavorful, I couldn't eat one to myself so I'd recommend splitting it. It was such a great and rich bite, truly unique to where I come from. This place most certainly lived up to the hype and you definitely need to give it a try when in London. read more
There's always a line here but it moves pretty fast. I recently discovered sausage rolls so I was super eager to this really famous one. Although I love sausage rolls, I generally don't like meat and very meaty things (I like a breadier meatball or a sausage that has a lighter, brighter taste). This sausage roll leans to the heavier, richer and meatier side of things. We weren't able to finish this in one go, but highly recommend if you like things on the meatier side. read more

British iconic food so I obliged. The ratio of sausage and pastry are poorly balanced, it was 80% meat and 20% of pastry, unless you like greasy and all meat diet.the sausage is tasty but somehow I still love my Jimmy dean back home. Eating it is a bit messy as well, without a table. read more
One of the few staples of UK is the sausage roll and this place SLAMS IT OUT OF THE WORLD ! Had came here on a Sunday morning right when it opened. This was recommended by the Korean Englishman youtuber so it was a must try for me. At 5 GBP for a TRADITIONAL SAUSAGE ROLL, it was probably one of the most DELICIOUS things I've ate in London ! (Not to down play other foods, it was just THAT GOOD) Piping hot, savory sausage roll wrapped in a oh so buttery, flaky pastry dough OH MY GOD this was DELICIOUS ! I could literally eat this every day (IM SO SAD NOW). If you plan on sharing this, you can ask them to cut it for you too ! (No I was not super hungry, i had breakfast before coming here because borough market didn't open til 10am on Sunday) MUST HAVE ! MUST EAT ! MUST RECOMMEND ! GET IT ! read more
My intention in getting a sausage roll was just to try an English staple and that I could already imagine what meat and pastry would taste like together. But that sausage roll was probably the best one I've ever had! They heat it up so it's piping hot and the crust gets all flaky: perfect for a chilly morning. And the meat inside looks dense but it's so moist and tender and it practically comes apart in your mouth. Not to mention, it's seasoned really well too. As for the scotch egg, we did not finish it. I had always thought it was supposed to be eaten hot, but the guy behind the counter let us know it was supposed to be eaten cold. The egg itself was good and the yolk was a really beautiful golden color. But eating the surrounding cold bland meat was not my favorite thing to do. I can imagine it being a lot better if it was hot and crispy as well. So if I ever got it again, I would take it home and reheat it. (Disclaimer: this is coming from American taste buds!!) read more

After our visit to the Tower of London, we decided to walk across the bridge and have lunch at the Borough Market. Hearing great things about sausage rolls and scotch eggs, we saw the line at the Ginger Pig and decided to try it out. The quail scotch egg was surprisingly cold - and the egg was hard boiled to the point that the yolk was greyish. I found this tasted dry but may have tasted better if it was hot. I had ordered the spicy lamb sausage roll which was piping hot! The pastry was greasy from all the lamb juice. The roll was packed with a ton of meat and was definitely filling. The roll was bigger than I thought it would be (felt more like I was eating a meat pie). You'll definitely need a drink of water while eating this! Overall, a quick filling lunch at the market. read more
Every time we come to London, we always stop by Ginger Pig to get their sausage roll! Even though we want to try their Scottish egg, it seems like they're always sold out :( Ginger pig is located in borough market, so come here and split a sausage roll because you will be too full to try other things in the market! read more
heard many things about the sausage rolls at ginger pig so had to try one while at borough market! i recommend sharing one if you plan to try other things at the market since they are of decent size (they cut it in half for us). // traditional sausage roll (5 pounds) // the sausage roll is a decent portion (quite thick): it consists of meat wrapped in puff pastry. i appreciated that the sausage meat itself was juicy and the puff pastry was crispy and light (not too greasy). the downside is aside from the meat and pastry, i expected more flavor or seasoning in the roll, since it tasted quite plain. in hindsight, i probably would have gotten the spicy sausage roll or a flavored one--i didn't expect that the traditional roll would be so simple (or plain). regardless, the meat and puff pastry were of high quality and tasted good. read more

This stand is located in Borough Market. I tried the quail scotch egg and the sausage roll. The quail scotch egg was cold, and not really my thing. The outer casing (supposedly baked/fried sausage meat coated with breadcrumbs) didn't taste like much. The sausage roll was huge and piping hot! The meat tasted like a meatball. It was a little on the salty side though. read more

I didn't expect much as it was a sausage roll but this was amazing. The flavour of the meat was surprisingly good and the actual pastry itself as well. It wasn't too salty or anything but complemented each other. The roll itself was also big and I shared it with my partner and we both were pretty full from eating half. Would wanna try the lamb one next time we're in town. read more

We came to the ginger pig as part of a food tour and had their sausage rolls. Wow they were tasty! Very flavorful sausage in a pastry dough. Luckily our guide divided the sausage roll into thirds because it would've been way too much for each of us to have a whole one. We just wish it would've come warm - unsure if that's how it is served or if it was just late in the day, but it makes the pastry dough a little bit soggy. read more
