Yes, you're probably going to wait for a table -- just expect it and enjoy the experience! Once you're seated and place your order, though, the food comes out amazingly fast. You can't go wrong with the authentic Swedish pancakes and lingonberries, and I think you get a great meal for the price. I also tried the Swedish Sangria made with Brut, Swedish Glogg & Fruit this time, and it was tasty! And then there are the famous goats on the grass-covered roof! Unfortunately, we arrived a little too late in the day and apparently the goats had already called it quits. We even walked around back looking for them! No goats, but we did get to see their little staircase leading up to the roof. Next time, we'll have to get there earlier! Whatever you do, don't leave without visiting the gift shop aka Butik! Give yourself some time because there is SO much to look at -- Door County souvenirs, clothing, ornaments, home decor, gifts and plenty of Al Johnson's goodies to take home. We loaded up on Swedish pancake mix, cinnamon sugar, Door County cherry jam and gifts for family and friends. I think I spent almost 45 minutes in there! After coming here for more years than I'm going to admit, Al Johnson's is still one of those quintessential Door County experiences. Come for the Swedish pancakes, look for the goats, browse the gift shop and enjoy a little piece of Door County tradition.

This is a We're-the-big-shots-in-town--aren't-you-so-lucky-you-get-to-dine-here?-Now-hurry-up experience. The service was rushed and the manner of the hostesses where you come in and where you pay is abysmal. No, really. I've never felt more like cattle in my life. The sour, amazingly unfriendly hostesses act annoyed you're even there the moment you walk in. No smile. No greeting. Only "What do you want? Stand there. Come this way." My wife apparently stepped too far past the host station and instead of, "I can take care of you there," the woman--without speaking a word and with a very annoyed expression on her face--walked in my wife's path and virtually pushed her in the direction she needed to be. After being rushed through our average meal, the person taking our money (all Al Johnson's wants) asked nothing about our meal, said no friendly word, made no eye contact, said no "enjoy your day" or "thanks for stopping in," only silently took the receipt and acted like it was an unwelcome interruption that I dared to even be standing there. I've been coming here since the mid-90s and wow has it changed. This place made their name with the Swedish pancakes and goats on the roof. They don't care anymore and they don't need to. You are a dollar sign and they will continue to be packed regardless. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. If you want a Door County classic, go to Julie's Cafe in Fish Creek. They're super friendly there and they aren't too big for their britches. Al Johnson's is a washed up, sub-par tourist attraction, one we will never be going back to nor recommending to anyone.

My family and I visited the farm while on vacation in Sturgeon Bay. It is a great place to visit…read moreespecially if you have kids! It's very interactive. You can start by feeding baby goats. The other animals around the farm are kittens, pigs, cows, ponies, goats and ducks. My only critique is I wish there were more staff around monitoring all of the children interacting with the animals especially the kittens. Many of the kittens were trying to get away from the kids but they grabbed them anyway. Not a huge deal and overall I think the animals are well taken care of.

During the last week of July, there were still plenty of lavender, but enough had been cut away to leave some gaps among the "sea of purple." Lavender drinks and food items are a delicious treat, and the gift shop has a variety of great lavender-scented items to take home with you to establish a relaxing environment. I don't carry cash with me too often so I was a little frustrated to find out they only accept cash ($15) if you want to pick a small bundle of lavender. Thankfully we did have cash in our car this time, but I would have been SO disappointed if we spent the time to travel to the island and couldn't pick the lavender. Perhaps they could install an ATM at the farm for the majority of us who have embraced the cashless lifestyle?

This little gift barn holds a lot more than one might expect. They have a variety of items, like…read moresweatshirts and t-shirts, mugs, some children's items, and so on. Not a bad place to find a gift or souvenir whilst in Door County. It's well situated as well for folks hopping on or off the ferry. Since we'd done a fair amount of shopping already I opted not to buy anything here, but I did consider a sweatshirt or two.
