Welcome to Grosse Pointe's most unprofessional excuse for a dentistry "practice," and one where patients should not expect to actually see the dentist. See, she hides in a backroom somewhere (or maybe she isn't even in the building?)--especially when there are problems or work needs to be done. Meanwhile, her robotic staff grinds out patients for cleaning after cleaning, filling up her cash drawer, not actually doing anything else of value.
Although we have been bringing my elderly mother for months and months to save her teeth due to cavities, Gibney only once began the work, then never finished it. Instead, her "practice" has padded visits with costs for cleanings (every TWO MONTHS!) and been vague at best about finishing ANYTHING.
Due to my own recent serious health issues, I explained, pre-appointment, the necessity of finishing my mother's work immediately during her scheduled appointment; I dragged her out in the rain (compromising my own health in so doing), only to not have her work even attempted, let alone completed. This was despite prior assurances by the receptionist, Heather, that it would be. She claimed she understood my dilemma and would make sure the staff finished the work because of the importance of the situation. Upon today's arrival, when the hygienist retrieved Mom, she then sauntered off, assuring me she would "check" on the work to be done when I inquired. She ultimately never returned either, although she did clean Mom's teeth and released her.
This came after the usual non-acknowledgment that we get when arriving for appointments (they are "closed between 1 and 2" and never greet you upon their return). Then, their trusty receptionist disappeared, continuing to hide somewhere after lying to the rest of the staff about what she had actually promised me pre-appointment would be done. That was followed by the remainder of Gibney's employees saying I "misunderstood" and thinking they'd met their obligation by repeating, "We have patients," which is apparently dentist-speak for: "We didn't have time for the work you were promised would be done because we suck at scheduling people, so tough luck! Would you like to use the back door on your way out?"
Yes, in addition to the inefficiency and callous treatment and the receptionist lying and hiding, Gibney also never stepped up. How totally classless and unprofessional.
We have never seen such disregard for professionalism in a health provider and staff. So, unless you have a hefty bank account and months on end to spare--and still want to never have your teeth cared for--avoid this practice like the plague. Apparently, Kathleen Gibney thinks "practice" means you don't actually WORK at being a dentist, you just PRACTICE--while you use the word "Doctor" in front of your name. read more
