So....mapped a route headed to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and then wandered along the way. After saying a prayer in Chiesa di San Gregoria Magno (of course, I had to go inside), our family walked through what initially looked like a preschool. Instead, we had found this gorgeous park. Established in 1784, it is the oldest city park in Milan. Today it covers 43 acres and includes museums, gardens, statues and monuments like the Planetarium and the Natural History Museum. The park was renamed in 2002 for Indro Montanelli. He was a popular journalist who relaxed in the park on his daily travel to work. He was shots by a terrorist brigade in 1977. His statue is placed where this event occurred. Take time to explore Milan. You may venture and find a local gem, like this public park, along the way.

Dense with trees, paths, benches and a few spots where dogs are permitted to be off leash. Inside the park are the Planetarium, the Natural History Museum and more. The park includes a large number of monuments and memorials. The Modern Art Gallery is adjacent. I was here for a good hour before and after my visit to the Art Gallery. We had an amazing tour from park guide/ geologist Dr. Donnatella Reggiori. She showed us two paths: one starts from the Mulino del Ghitello to the Mulin del Canaa and the second one form the Mulin del Canaa to Ghitello. The geological contents of the Breggia Gorge makes the park one of the most important geo-topes in Switzerland. Along the river you can see the geology profile that is continuous between the Jurassic and the Tertiary periods. If you look closely, you can see evidence of the ancient seas in the rocks of the Gorge: layers extremely rich in fossils, remains of underwater landslides, witness to climatic changes in eras long before man appeared on Earth, and proof of volcanic eruptions. Dr. Reggiori will give you a full lesson in Geology on the tour. Make sure your kids take notes, they may be able to get extra credit in school :)

This is a huge park adjacent to the River Po that contains many 'visit worthy' spots including a…read morebotanical garden, museum and Medieval village. Sandwiched between Corso Massimo d'Azeglio and the River Po, sweeping green-ways make a perfect place to sunbathe, play with the kids or dog, play music and enjoy a beautiful day. On the south end of the park, across from Borgo Medievale, is a beautifully designed garden including many pathways and water features running throughout. Walking the road that runs along the river are many cafe kiosks where you can stop for a sandwich, coffee or soda. The path also dips down toward the river providing places to sit at the waters edge. Be sure to take a walk through the medievale village. Vendors were selling balloons too! On the north end of the park, near the Vittorio Emanuele tram stop, we encountered several people sitting or standing around who appear to be 'scoping out' the persons walking by. On our first visit we walked around this area and followed Corso Vittorio Emanuele to the river. On my second visit I made the mistake of walking toward the tram stop inside the park and was accosted by some of these men. I do not wish to dissuade you from visiting this beautiful park. I just want to caution you, if you get off at this tram stop, walk down the main road to the river to enter the park across from Corso Cairoli or walk south along Corso d'Azeglio before entering.

Some taking in the sun whilst others enjoying a drink or a meal at one of the many kiosks, cafes, make shift bars, proper bars and other such places. A great place for people watching and taking in the sun. It's a very local park and you don't see a ton of tourists there. As the afternoon went on it got busier and busier. You can rent bikes and pedal or go boating in the river.

Named after Francesco Melzi d'Eril who built the mansion on the grounds in the early 1800s, the gardens feature countless species of plant life. Some of the trees are towering above you reminding visitors just how old they are and their rich history! The entrance pathway runs right along the lake in the most picturesque setting. This is certainly the best point of interest in Bellagio!

There are many winding paths so it's not hard to find a bench to sit and rest and enjoy the views without feeling like you are in a crowd. Do go into the building with the 'antiques'. There are some beautiful statues and pottery that are quite old. Very interesting. There are lots of opportunities to take pics of beautiful plants or use the plants as a front drop to views of the lake. I enjoyed this stroll very much.
