Every year this display out does itself from the previous year. 2017 featured the window projections, the pumpkins and the music. Most of the action was relegated to the upstairs windows and how they seamlessly tied together. There were some creepy figures in the downstairs windows, but that was the extent of the display. However THIS YEAR, I believe the owners name is David, got mega serious about the show content and really blew this out of the water. How???? 1. 50+ pumpkins that light simultaneously OR independently, and some have dimmers. Oh and they are carved from a synthetic or glazed to prevent rotting. Either way I'm impressed. 2. Multiple fog machines that cover the grounds and spill out into the street. 3. Exterior music that alternates between recognizable tunes and creepy dirges/monster sounds. 4. Projection imagery that is seamlessly broadcast across at least 4 upstairs windows. Ghosts, slime, blood, dancing werewolves, skeletons and more. Oh! AND some of the projected dance numbers sync up with the songs! Whut! 5. Skeletons that sing and MOVE!! Not only can they move their jaws in time to the words, but they headbang and can move independently from the others. AND they have glowing eyes that can change color! 6. The light show! Completely timed to coincide with music and drums and to create drama and excitement, lighting is everything. 7. The NEW animatronic Frankenstein's creature that sings along to "Putting on the Ritz" but returns to its docile state after the performance. 8. Lastly, humor. From Michael Jackson, to Queen to Louis Prima, the action, singing and production as a whole is more than enough to hold your attention and astound you. No bones about it-go check it out before it's too late!

You know those Disney Halloween movies you used to watch as a kid where all of the neighborhood houses were perfectly decorated for Halloween with pumpkins, skeletons and lights? Well, Ghost Manor was exactly like that, only better. I first heard about this house last year and I was determined to check it out this year, especially since they added a few things. Every year the family that lives in his house brings it to life with singing skeletons, shadows of ghosts and skeletons dancing in the windows, lights that move with the music and pumpkins that flash in time with the tunes. Ghost Manor is "open" from sundown to 10pm the last two weeks of October and the "show" plays every 15 minutes or so and from beginning to end it's really cool. The owner of the house builds and creates everything himself, so this isn't just some store bought decorations hooked up to music. We were here on Halloween night and, of course, the whole area in front of the house was packed and there were people handing out candy and trinkets to trick or treaters. Ghost Manor is a cool piece of New Orleans "local flavor" and a fun alternative if you don't want to bring your child to an actual haunted house.

Had the best time exploring this house. I had read about it online and was prepared for a little let down- but to my surprise - it actually surpassed my expectations. The time and effort put into this is beyond obvious. I'm so glad I was here for Halloween and able to see this.

We meet up at the Voodoo Lounge, where there is a ticket office in the back room. We didn't live the bar--smelled a little bit like a sewer and the hurricanes were super sweet and kind of weak. But we did have but one get one, so wasn't that upset. The tour was great. We saw some interesting, haunted places and heard the history behind them. We didn't linger too long at any one place. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny, although he may have been a tad bit too heavy on the Catholic Church jokes. The tour ended at the LaLaurie house, and our guide shared a story about a little girl on who was recently on his tour who started crying and asked why there were dead people on the balcony. Spooky! I was so intrigued by what he said that I started looking up stories about Delphine LaLaurie and the haunting of the house. When I got home, I even started watching season 3 of American Horror Story, which has the character Delphine LaLaurie (accurate? No. Fun? Yes!). This was a fun way to spend the evening. There was an obnoxiously drunk guy on our tour, and our guide handled him well.

Our tour guide was Gracie and she was great! She really took care of us in making sure we could all hear and to make sure we all stayed together. The walking tour was fun, informational, and well paced. In the middle of the tour, you get a break at one of the oldest bars in America and they offer restrooms for those who are over 21 and under. I would highly recommend it.

Maybe part of the mistake was booking a ghost tour in the French Quarter after dark, but even with that expectation, this experience missed the mark. The "headquarters" is attached to a bar, so when you arrive it feels more like a pregame party than the start of a guided tour. There were easily a couple hundred people packed between the bar, sidewalk, and parking lot, with no clear direction or organization. Total chaos. There was a long line that I assumed was for drinks, but it turned out to be for wristbands. No signage, no guidance, no communication. About five minutes after our scheduled start time, I was convinced our group had already left. Eventually, someone came out and started calling groups, but it felt completely disorganized. Once the tour finally got going, it became clear this wasn't really about ghost stories, it was more about drinking, joking around, and keeping things light. There was even a mid-tour bar stop, which just added to the number of heavily intoxicated people and took away from any kind of immersive or historical experience. This is where I left. To be fair, maybe a different time or a different company would've been better, but this one felt more like a bar crawl with a ghost theme than an actual ghost tour.

We're veterans of Lollapalooza Chicago, we were prepared, wearing our worst tennis shoes and let them get destroyed. We will, no doubt, wash them and save them for our next fest. The walk from Uber was a bit longer than we anticipated. It was easy entry through security without bags. The craft beer tent, Brew Dat has good selections for a fest and was covered by a large canopy. Prices were what you expect at a music fest. Staff was super friendly and some were costumed. We waited about 15 minutes for the haunted cemetery. It was not very scary but it was cool. Actors did a good job. Modelo had a cool pavilion with activities. I took advantage of the free face painting. House of Blues was a great area, with music and spicy shrimp po' boys for $9.00. If it were not so muddy we would have looked at the other food options but the rain and mud got old and eating under a tent was a much better option. Bonus points for the cool HOB VooDoo fest bandanas they gave with purchase. Guns N' Roses headlined Friday night, played for 3 hours and surpassed all expectations. Slash is still so very cool. Damn. Bishop Briggs keeps improving. Not sure who was playing in the HOB tent but damn it was a fine sounding high energy performance. Grandson was a fun surprise as was Brandi Carlile. Merch tent had some great stuff, priced as expected. Lines were not bad. I wanted to buy a poster but couldn't bring myself to spend the $$ for something that would likely get soaked in the rain. I would have liked to walk around and see more, but the rain and mud were too much after a while. Getting an Uber out was a cluster but they were trying to keep it somewhat together.

As a huge fanatic of all things Halloween, and following their page on instagram, it was presented that it would be heavily Halloween themed. But it was lack luster. There were of course festival goers dressed up which is fun but they did not put much creativity into decorating it as so. The line-up was good, had a variety of genres, big names and underground names which is appreciated. When I saw one of my top 5 fav bands Modest Mouse, the sound quality was not good. I barely could understand what Brock the lead singer was singing. I have seen them live in the past at the Miami Beach Jackie Gleason theatre and the sound quality was crisp. One of my top annoyances was the unexpected quick sand-like mud that covered about 60% of the park. It was uncomfortable and irritating to constantly maneuver thru not only the mud but the tremendously big crowds, in which the crowd was also a disappointment. I thought everyone would be friendly but not so and immature which I think the all ages welcomed is responsible for this. The layaway option was great even though they tact a $10 fee for it. And enjoying 3 days for just $180 was great but with what was left to the imagination, that is a reasonable price. The wrist band, which is another $9 mandatory fee got mailed to me, and its pretty. And I liked how you can sync your credit card to the bracelet via their app to make paying for drinks and food easy. Variety of food was extensive, there was something for everyone. I tried a caprese crepe and it was nasty! The tomato was watery and it was all I tasted. The pesto had no flavor and the cheese was rubbery. Would I come back to New Orleans? Hell yeah! I fell in love with that beautiful city. Would I return to Voodoo? Absolutely not. And I actually keep forgetting I even went.
