I would say that Greenwoods Menswear is aimed at more distinguished men with ranges in day, formal and office wear. I think the thing that sets Greenwoods above the rest is their formal hire wear, which has now been re-branded as the 1860 Formal Hire. As a family we have Hired suits for two weddings where my husband was Best Man and required top hats and tails. Not only where the suits of excellent quality and a reasonable price but fit well too.

The nice thing is that the staff are very friendly and helpful, as well as knowledgeable, and the prices actually pretty good for this sort of lifetime-lasting quality. As mentioned, the prices are great and although the mens section is much smaller compared to the ladies it does still seem to ram in a massive amount of clothes. I have to say 90% of it isn't to my tastes at all and some looks a little cheap (yeah i know they are cheap but doesn't mean they have to look it!) but if you search hard enough you will find something you like i'm sure. The staff are a miserable bunch on the whole and are usually found behind the till but for a store like this you don't expect exceptional service so they do the job nicely. All in a all a good shop for Selby and some nice bargains to be had if you look hard enough.

Peacocks arrived in Selby when the new shopping area opend in the 1990's adding their department store look. The Selby branch has become quite sucessful with little in their way of competition for the up-to-the fashion low price trends. We have the New Look store in Selby but they are significally more expensive. As far as products, they cater for men, women and children, in clothing, shoes, Underwear, sleep wear and accessories. I tend to buy quite a few pair of jeans there that start from about £5 and wash well! Peacocks are postioned well, in a busy walk-way with Wilkinsons and now the new Sainsbury's store next to them. Although we are now entereing difficult financial times, I think more discerning customers are being savvy with their money and will seek out stores like Peacocks that are offering a one-stop-shop for fashion on the cheap.

The store is well known in Sheffield and further afield, and its reputation speaks for itself.It's won quite a few high profile awards, and has been in Sheffield since 2000. There is also an online store that I have reviewed separately, but it quite useful as new brands get added right away, allowing me to check it before I go into town to visit the store. A cut above the rest really, and I end up going in far too often and spending too much!

I saw it as I walking by and gravity went from underneath me, I got all bouncy in my step and bounded in - eager to forage for some vintage delights. Bargain vintage delights. In Harrogate? This is new. I didn't find bargain vintage delights. Rather expensive vintage delights. Very expensive vintage delights. You want £28 for a set of old cups? Oh right, I see. You're really vintage. Oooh. Oooooh. A new oooooh. You've got copies of The Face. I was never a cool enough early teen to be into The Face. I wish the face still existed. Oooooh. There's a copy here with The Strokes on the front. You want a fiver for it? Not a quid? Ah. Right. This place knows it has novelty value in Harrogate. And while it might spout about being an independent collective of vintage 'retailers', what would be a very enjoyable haberdashery of all nice, cute old things comes off feeling a bit too retail-based. We'll see how this one pans out.

The interesting bits you used to find in charity shops find a home here and the place does well. What's more the really knowledgeable guy who runs it is a great to spend some time with as he comes across a great deal more than can fit onto this Tardis-like shop. It's a wonderful place to browse in, but, as another reviewer said, don't expect charity shop prices as a lot of this stuff is now quite hard to find, and is priced accordingly.

The clothing offered by Dorothy Perkins is high street priced, which is higher than most stores in Selby, but there is a market for them. Dorothy Perkins still manage to find there 'feet' within the Selby economy by offering a brand name with higher quality goods. There is a wide selection of separates for day wear and a good range for your night around town too. The staff are friendly.
