Do not go to this hospital if you value your life!! The ER is staffed with Doctors that obviously do not care about solving problems they just throw all kinds of lab work and diagnostic tests and hope something sticks. They have NO clinical or critical thinking skills. And they plop very ill patients in the waiting room for HOURS so they don't have to turnover a room. Lazy. HIPPA and Patients Bill of Rights totally violated. There's so much but here's the highlights: 8/14/2026 I was there for chest pressure & pain, coughing and a large hiatal hernia that rendered my stomach almost completely in my chest pressing against my heart and lungs. Also putting pressure on my great vessels (aorta/ IVC). The doctor ignored an abnormal ECG and lab work that was grossly abnormal. They didn't consider me an "emergency". My family was mortified and felt helpless. Drs. Fraley and Sandlin were horrible. They were patronizing and told me:"It's JUST a hernia." My primary care said: "Yeah, they really need to improve." ALSO, Fraley put down that I left after getting pain meds. Insinuating that I was a drug seeker to cover her ass. I was 30 years on the clinical floor. I'm not the one to mess with. DO NOT GO TO GETTYSBURG HOSPITAL!! read more

I am deeply concerned by the conduct and level of care provided by the third-shift Emergency Department staff. In my experience, the professionalism, compassion, and attentiveness expected in a hospital setting were severely lacking. I found Dr. Renee Sandlin to be dismissive and unkind, and it appeared that patients' concerns were not treated with the seriousness and dignity they deserve. It was particularly troubling to witness behavior that came across as mocking or insensitive toward individuals in vulnerable medical situations. Rather than prioritizing patient care, the atmosphere seemed focused on processing patients quickly and generating billing. As a result of this experience, I no longer feel safe or confident seeking medical treatment through WellSpan. I would rather travel to the next town and receive care through UPMC, where I believe my health and well-being would be treated with greater professionalism and respect. read more

The emergency room was a great experience. My mom got seen right away, the staff worked quickly to get her treated. She was admitted the same evening. They were very caring. I was amazed at how quickly she got treated. Once admitted the nurses were nice too. Its a very small hospital, a little dated, cafeteria is super small and not open I believe after about 6:00pm. Gift shop only open Monday-Friday. The main entrance information was closed on the weekends, it was kind of odd to not have someone there to assist where to go. But otherwise I would recommend since the patients seem to get very attentive care. read more

Worst emergency room care. Dismissed patient's pain. Several times doctor attempted to give medications that were known allergies with severe side effects. Doctor seemed annoyed and angry. Refused to to do telehealth consult when requested. Checked out and went to a different ED and received appropriate care. Check in staff was wonderful though! A bright spot in the middle of the horrible care received. read more

Beautiful hospital, small & clean. Nurses are great. Switchboard operator Shawanda thinks she owns the hospital, very rude, hospital need to get better qualified and polite people to answer their switchboard, Shawanda needs to be replaced by a better qualified person read more

Took my son in because he was severely constipated. Walked back to the care room, ER Dr. gave us a bottle of magnesium citrate, said take this, and sent us on the way. Had to pay a co-pay and the Dr. did nothing but give us a bottle and sent us on our way. Came back 3 days later because my son still had not gone. This time, the Dr. did give my son an enema, but he still was not able to go before we left. I do not think I could go on a portable toilet that was meant for a small child and not a teenager. We decided to leave because the Dr. said there was nothing else, he could do and the hospital is not equipped to handle children. We did the follow up stuff with ExLax, MiraLAX, and whatever we could use. Two days later he still had not gone, so we decided to go to UMPC in Carlisle. Within an hour and half of us arriving and checked in, my son finally went. The care my son received and UMPC was a night and day comparison to WellSpan Gettysburg. Wish I could have gone to UMPC first. read more

Hello! Thank you for taking excellent care of my Mom during her mastectomy. Dr. McKee is an asset to your staff and is an excellent Dr. He is an excellent surgeon as well as his patient/family handling is excellent. Your hospital is very nice and quite homey and comfortable. Jodi, the attendant nurse couldn't have been better as well as the pre-op nurse who prepared Louise for surgery, forgive me for not remembering her name but I do remember her daughter tried to call her and her phone # ended in 12. Strange things you remember. Louise was very happy with the care she received during her stay and my Dad was very pleased (most important. lol). Overall, we were very happy with everything. Thank you so much and you have an excellent nursing staff! Thank you for your kindness and your staff for being so professional with their greetings, helpfulness and caring! Kudos to your establishment! read more

We were there for 45 minutes for a minor head wound. The doctor examined the wound, washed it, used surgical glue to close it and sent us on our way. We were later billed for nearly $1900. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. read more

If you have a choice and you're not dying, pick anywhere else besides wellspan anything. WellSpan cares more about your money than they do about your health. I get cancer scans every six months. The scans are around $8000 each. My wife and I have to put these bills on a payment plan with the hospital. The only problem is every time you add any kind of bill to the payment plan they upped your bill $50 a month , I didn't get a raise since my last imaging. Last year we made a partial payment at Christmas time and we were turned into collections. I have never missed one single payment with wellspan with the exception of that half payment. Yet I get sent to collections. UPMC is a much better much cheaper medical firm that cares about the people more than the money shame on you WellSpan. read more

Went to GH for really bad back and stomach pains. Was told that I might have to get my blood work started in the room where they weight you and do your vitals, cause they was waiting on a bed, but in the mean time I will have you wait in the waiting room. I sat there and they kept taking other patients that came in after me. I understand that some people need to been seen first due to their illness, but waiting an hour in the ER while in pain and your seeing others that are laughing and walking around, but go back before you when you have been there way before them is unbelievable. This lady came in with holding her lower back, she might of been there for 3 minutes the lady that was with her was an RN nurse they took her right back and never came back to the waiting room like everyone else had to do. I guess it all depends on who you are, and who you know when you get to been seen. read more

I reviewed on Google already, but will post my review on every platform available. My family was in town visiting for the week when my toddler fell and hurt her arm. Looking like it might be broken, we decided it was best that we take her in. Having the privilege of living near all of the Boston hospitals, I am extremely weary of being seen anywhere else in the world. We brought her to this hospital assuming they could handle something such as this, it is an emergency room after all with medical doctors. Big mistake! Our daughter had turned two just days prior and had never had an injury to this extent, so she was a fighter to anyone who came near her. The two nurses were extremely dry with us and with her. In the xray room they had five, yes FIVE, people plus myself holding her down. Complete hysteria and chaos unfolded in that room. She was already terrified and in pain, but now she had numerous strangers holding her down and pulling her into weird positions with her body to keep her arm straight. Once back in our room, the doctor came and let us know she did in fact have a break. However, he said "the good news is it's not a complete break on this bone" (I have a video of his exact words) and pointed to her radius. He suggested a fiberglass cast for her to stabilize it or a splint. Again, our daughter is two. I knew a splint wouldn't stay on her arm, so we opted for the fiberglass. He did agree that was the best choice and left to get the nurses to help him. Within a minute, he returned and said the nurses were not willing to put a cast on her and we were going to do the splint. He assured me this was completely fine to do as it would stabilize it and protect her from further damage. He put her splint on and sent us off with instructions to see pedi ortho or her pcp in about a week. As I said, we were on vacation so it was a few days before we got back home. She broke her arm around 11:30 pm on Tuesday, we were in with ortho at Boston Children's Hospital Monday morning. We did follow up X-rays to see how it was healing so far, only to find out my child had not one but TWO broken bones. Both bones had complete breaks in them. The doctor we were with at Children's stated she should have never ever been in a splint for almost a week, a fiberglass cast should have been done immediately. She showed us the breaks on the xray, which I compared to the video on my phone from PA. They were clear as day when she pointed them out! She said she was very lucky she didn't have any further damage to her arm with a splint. Additionally, the splint they gave us was an older child size. It looked like a boxing mitt on her and slid off very easily, despite making sure it was tightened, between the first visit in Gettysburg and our appt in Boston. We did a fiberglass cast for 3 weeks, followed by an actual toddler size splint for 2 weeks. The complete negligence of this hospital is absolutely unacceptable. We have yet to receive our bill from them, however I plan to call their billing department to fight all charges. I would not recommend anyone go to this hospital if they can't see two completely broken bones. read more

I live in New Oxford & when I made the choice to go to the ER on a Friday afternoon.. I made my decision between here & Hanover. I checked the reviews and both left much to be desired. So in the end I made my decision based on that I thought Gettysburg would be less busy. I was very anxious and nervous about this trip to the ER. It wasn't a life threatening issue. 2 weeks prior I made a spontaneous decision to get my nipples pierced. One ended up getting infected. A week prior to my visit, I went to urgent care in new Oxford. They put me through excruciating pain, trying to get the infected nipple ring out. I don't think they did it on purpose... But I do wonder why they didn't try to numb me up. Anyways, after my trip to the urgent care previously.. to say I was nervous was an understatement. The skin had grown completely around the ring. It was no longer visible. I was panicking. Going in I thought I could run into doctors and nurses that treated me differently because of my reasoning of going in there. I thought I could be judged. And I was even scared they might not want to numb me. From my very first interaction with the lady signing me in everything was pleasant. She was sooo nice & even told me something similar happened to her. Triage nurse was my next encounter, she was also so sweet and told me about how her daughters often rejected piercings. I waited in the waiting room for maybe 20 minutes max. My next encounter was another nurse she took me to my room and she was so pleasant and friendly. She truly made me feel at ease. She gave me a gown and told me she'd be back with the doctor. I was barely done changing and they were both back. They came in looked at it and immediately started trying to figure out the plan to get the nipple ring out. They were gentle & cautious with me. The moment I had a tiny bit of pain the doctor said "okay okay let's get you some Novocaine, I don't want you in pain.." can you imagine my sigh of relief? 2 shots of Novocaine was NOTHING compared to the pain I had felt at urgent care the week prior. 10 maybe 15 minutes later the nipple ring was out and I felt very minimal pain. I could have kissed the doctor and the nurse! They continuously told me how great I was doing & that I was a trooper. And just like that, they were off to their next patient. The next nurse that came in with my discharge papers was also a breath of fresh air. She was sweet and talked about her body also rejecting piercings. I have never been soooo happy with a hospital visit. Every person I talked to was pleasant, sympathetic, and just soooo nice. My experience was top tier. I thought I was going to be judged and treated differently but it was the exact opposite. I am so very happy I chose Gettysburg. I know this is a lengthy read but I just needed to express everything I felt. Obviously I can't speak for every nurse & doctor there but on February 10th 2023 the team of doctors and nurses I encountered were some of the best I've experienced ever. read more

My father had become ill with a rather sudden case of pneumonia, so it was off to Gettysburg that we had to rush. Gettysburg Hospital - Hospitals Near Me - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

My husband was at Gettysburg Hospital a few days ago for a colonoscopy. Everyone we interacted with could not have been nicer. Check in was simple and in no time at all, we were taken to the presurgical area. His procedure was over quickly and the volunteer overseeing the waiting area kept me apprised of the progress as their board was not functioning that morning. The volunteers were especially pleasant, taking care of me along the way. My husband's nurses were the absolute best. He even commented how well they had put him at ease - he is not a good patient. Post op-we had test results back in just a few days. Not a pleasant experience to go through, but the staff of Gettysburg Hospital made it easier. Thank you to all. read more

This hospital doesnt even deserve 1 star, but you have to give something. This is THE WORST hospital I've ever had the displeasure of being subjected to dealing with; the only nice thing I can say is that once my husband was so bad I was told he might not make it they admitted him to the CC Unit, where he was very well taken care of. The rest of the hospital is a bloody mess; poor communication with family of patients, no updates, lies from ER doctors and then sent home knowing my husband would be back once his symptoms got deathly worse - and then discharged without anything being told to me, no instructions on follow up, medications - absolutely terrible. Dr. Candace Crist made it a point after seeing him on 12/8 to point out numerous times in her report/diagnosis that my husband was "not vaccincated" for COVID. And then lied about offering him antibodies. He was told he "may be qualified" but not offered. I would suggest no one goes here unless you really dont plan on getting any information, updates or information on your loved ones who are admitted. read more

Was to have surgery on a Monday. Was to get a call for time. Called "not on schedule" WE will call you monday morning. Didnt I had to call. Still no time. They called me about an hour later with a time. Then they call me and ask me to come in earlier in which we did but was a little late. Did my surgery. Had to wait hours for my room. While in an "odd" holding room, the nurse had to go scrounge from other nurses, and units some kind of dinner for me. Then get up in my room next morning Everybody got a breakfast tray EXCEPT ME. Debatable if I will come back to Gettysburg Hospital again. read more

I came to Gettysburg Hospital via ambulance through the ER. I was having a medical problem and very thankful for my Earth Angel's (strangers, police, paramedics, ER staff, and the doctors, nurses, aides, on the second floor). The staff was very caring. They went above and beyond their job title. I really love this hospital and the staff. I have never had a hospital and staff take a personal interest in my well being and health. read more

I had to take my daughter to the ER. I had put her in the wheelchair and put her right inside the door so I could park the car. When I got to the doors a staff member was with her. Quick service and my son was in and out quickly with great service. I posted this review because their was no security and I watched people walking in to the ER and going in rooms looking for someone. This is the only hospital I have ever seen before that had no armed security and it was obvious. Small town or not this hospital needs a serious security upgrade for patients security and safety. read more

The ER Dr spent an entire 45 seconds with me.... $760 out of pocket AFTER insurance. I guess this would be the same anywhere but....

Stuck in a waiting room with a child in severe pain for 2 1/2 hours. Can't get a room because they changed computer systems? Things are taking longer because of this? I will never come back here, incompetent at best. Leaving to go to another hospital. Bet the computer system will attempt to bill me! read more

I've been here twice and have been extremely disappointed both times. I was misdiagnosed because the doctors only make assumptions about what it wrong with you. They ran tests and never told me the POSITIVE results or to get a follow up. I was forced to stay throwing up in the waiting room for 2hours, and my pain was shrugged off by everyone working there. I just got home from another trip there and they once again assumed that as a college student I was there because of a bad hangover- I was not. I was vomiting because the combination of spicy food and stress which caused my stomach lining to erode, but of course they made me wait for anti-nausea and tried to talk down to me like a child. If you can help it, never go here- go to Chambersburg hospital or anywhere else. read more

Don't go to the hospital if your life depends on it. I went there several times this past year including now the hospital doesn't do anything in the emergency room I went in February of last year for being dehydrated from the flu and they refused to rehydrate me. I went one time in October for severe asthma flaring and I told the doctor I couldn't breathe and he sent me home telling me it was nothing and what not it treat me I went back a few days later still got the same treatment except I did get steroids in the ER at home basically being called fake. I went to the ER today cuz my asthma is bad again and I showed the PA my asthma action plan and what is stipulates to do and he said you can have oral steroids today and that's all you get I asked the nurse if I could have a nebulizer treatment and she had to ask the doctor because my discharge paperwork was already complete and he said no I don't get one because I sounded just fine him, my action plan says Nebulizer treatment is it given and he refused to follow what my doctor put in place so do not go to this emergency room unless you want to be jerked around and not being taken seriously read more

Gettysburg Hospital is not a good hospital to go to. You would think their standards and care would be without a doubt, five starts... however, when it comes to the real cases... blood on the brain, cancer related emergancys, car accidents that involve patients who need sertain surgerys... Gettysburg hospital is not equipt for that. They lack the knowledge or dont care to move forward... I guess its like the town its self, stuck in the Civil war age. have a spraiend ankel they can fix that. have blood on the brain... you are transported to york or hershey hospital. WOW. building onto a building doesnt make you a better hospital... it just shows you are spending tax payers money to perform tasks that anyone with slight medical knowldge can perform. Not to mention the way they treat people who have no insurance. and yes, it is cold in the waiting rooom. and behind the curtains you are placed in when you go there waiting for hours to be seen... maybe you will get lucky and someone will offer you a blanket. read more

The whole visit here was awful. I brought somebody in that was screaming in pain. The triage nurse was getting annoyed with him and making faces because when she asked him questions it took awhile for him to catch his breath and be able to answer in a full sentence. Then we get a room in the emergency room and his nurse was just plain rude and nasty to both of us. Then without hearing a thing that is going on a nurse came in saying she gives cards out to everyone being admitted in case they have any concerns! Wow news to me that he was even being admitted!!!!! read more
