There is no gas. I was welcomed by the clerk as I entered and later asked if I needed help finding anything. Inside features a good selection of craft and domestic beers. There is a small selection of wine. At the back of the store are cases of cold power drinks and sodas. There is a small coffee bar. The center of the store houses shelves of snacks and pantry items. And behind the clerk is a freezer with ice cream bars which attracts the neighborhood kids in the summer. Outside, there is neatly piled stacks of firewood and an ice machine.

I say convenient because we were headed west bound on 116th, so we pulled right into one of the bays without any problems of having to cross several lanes of traffic. It is also convenient if headed northbound on Allisonville. Otherwise, you take your chances since it is almost always a heavily traveled intersection. Fortunately, my wife's vehicle runs on gasoline. I looked around and didn't see any of the pumps were for diesel. So, be aware if you are driving one of those vehicles. There seemed to be plenty of bays and so my wife had little trouble finding an open one in working order. We did notice some pumps were covered for repairs. The good news is that she had no problems using the pump, and the credit card reader at the pump worked well too, so she was fueled up and ready to go before I could even check out the inside store. They have some of the expected outside items like ricks of firewood (though why they sell combustible wood pieces near fuel pumps has always baffled me. I don't recall seeing rock salt or propane tanks for grills here. I don't recall seeing an ice freezer outside either, so you may call first if you are needing some of those specialty items. Didn't make any purchases inside during our visit, so I can't comment on customer service. What I did notice is that the lot and bay area of the station was maintained and clean. That's always a plus that the place looks nice. It may not have all your quick stop needs, but it was clean and we were able to get our vehicle fueled quickly. I wanted to see if all the hype is real. The gas station/convenience store is large and pristine. Gas was priced the lowest that I've seen in a long time at $2.52 a gallon. The gas pumps have a lot going on, covered with ads and daily specials. Air pumps for inflating tires are modern and free! Inside, the store is spacious and clean. I was welcomed when I entered. The staff were friendly and helpful. A $6 special offering any sandwich, assorted chips and small soft drink caught my eye. I ordered at a kiosk, which took me a few minutes to master. I ordered the Crispy Bacon Ranch Chicken. The sandwiches are made to order with toppings of your choice. I paid for my order and picked out some of the Herr Old Bay chips and poured a coke. The soda machine does require advanced tech skills. I couldn't figure out the ice, but it was ok. The sandwich came out fairly quickly, giving me time to look around. They carry premade breakfast sandwiches, locally prepared donuts, fruit, bottled drinks, snacks and everything you'd expect at a convenience store. My sandwich was hot. For fast food and the inexpensive price, the sandwich was a great deal. The clerk told me that the specials change regularly. Last week, they had a breakfast special. They have restrooms and plenty of accessible parking. I was disappointed that there were no tables to eat. (I hate to eat in my car.) In general, if you're in a hurry, Wawa is a decent option for a reasonably priced meal and getting gas.

I have a feeling I might pay for this meal later, if you know what I mean. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was bad, but it also wasn't good enough for me to want it again. It would do in a bind, I guess. It's gas station pizza- I probably should not have expected much. I was also surprised that the pizza box was not sealed in any way. Most pizza delivery around here uses tape or stickers to make the box tamper proof, but my box was slightly open.

The multiple bays are single load, not double, so you don't have to dodge and swerve pulling around other cars. I also liked that the space between the pumps and the convenience store/clerk is covered in case of rain. They also have items stacked outside that are sometimes useful like rock salt, windshield wash, and ice. I went inside to pay and all I could smell was that really good Indian incense. You know the one I'm talking about? I know this because it's my favorite! Sam was the clerk and he was super friendly to me. We spoke for a few moments about the market I had just come from and he told about a few different events that happen in the neighborhood. He also shared that his family had had businesses there since 2003. Once there used to be a motorcycle shop and it had closed so they purchased the building and now have the neighborhood gas station. I love learning about local businesses. More often than not I find business owners originate from other countries and move here for the hope of better lives. Clark Gas Station is one of these businesses. On a busy corner at Hamilton and 10th, just across from the Boner Community Center, it seems to cater to the very poor. Sure, it is a convenience store and gas station. But the pricing of items seems exploitative considering the low income of most persons who visit the place. Last week I needed two cans of cream of mushroom soup. I was making a recipe and couldn't stop long enough to get to a serious grocery store. So, ok, why not use the trusty old convenience store for something else except gas? I did buy two cans of Campbells cream of mushroom soup for $2.49 per can. Yikes! That seems to me exploitative and a case of price gouging. Today I checked at my Marsh grocery store at Lockerbee. The price per can was $1.69. If I had wanted a generic can of the same soup I would have paid only $1.19 per can-- a difference of $1.30 for each can I bought. If you care about food justice and basic economic fairness, do as I am doing and refuse to give your business to Clark, for food or for anything else.
