I have been going to Whetstone for about 5 years, and I like it…read more I previously went to a "corporate" type place and after 8 years, they shut down and did not even notify me. Whetstone is smaller but that fits me. Weekday mornings there is usually a dozen or so "mature adults'' and it is a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Typically, Folks greet each other even if just to say "good morning". I have had trainers offer suggestions or help even though I am not their client. The facility is well maintained and clean. When Donnie, the owner, is not with a client he is usually checking equipment or cleaning something. He is very concerned with maintaining a high-quality facility. It may not be the place for everyone. I'm just an old guy that feels better when I work out and I think that is common on weekday mornings. I intend to continue going to Whetstone Fitness.

If you are 64 and have never worked out, then this is still the place for you. I workout with Shane and he is very knowledgeable, very personable, and pushes me to my limit every time. In the 2 months I have been going, I am down almost 20 pounds and 3.5 inches in my waist! I work out with Darcy, and she is absolutely the best! Whether it is working with her in a single session or in a group, she does a great job at making sure you feel comfortable with the exercise and weight, but by no means is she going to take it easy on you. She kicks my butt every single time I go in there! But having had a bulging disk in my lower back, she tailors the workouts so I can strengthen those muscles yet not hurt myself. I've been going to Studio Fitness since March, and in those three months I've lost 20 lbs, 6" off my waist, and I just ran my first sub 7:00 mile! I've had memberships at other national gym chains, but never had the desire to make it a regular part of my routine. But now, I really look forward to my gym sessions with Darcy each week. Working out at Studio Fitness has helped me re-adjust my eating habits and get my fitness level up to where I've wished it had been. They offer great group classes at less expensive prices, or you can create group sessions with your friends or other people who work out there to lower your out of pocket costs.

The layout is brilliantly designed--easily the best I've encountered--and the equipment is top-notch. The coaching stands out too; whether you're just starting out or an RX-level athlete, the coaches are exceptional and cater to everyone. If you're passing through, a drop-in is a must, and if you're local, a membership is well worth it. I honestly wish I lived in Gig Harbor just to train here regularly. I was bored of my monotonous gym routine when my wife found NCF online. I decided to go and have never looked back. So many aches & pains have disappeared, I am more flexible, enjoy so much more energy during the day, and I sleep better at night. Not to mention that my pear-body shape is rapidly returning back to the "V" I had in high school... The workouts are always interesting and challenging, while each one scales to the level of your proficiency (or lack thereof ;D). Coach Mike and the others keep a keen eye on each athlete and are constantly giving helpful instruction both to the group as well as to each individual. NCF caters extremely well to every athlete, right across the fitness & proficiency spectrum. I look forward to every session and it would be hard to imagine my life without NCF.

BEWARE OF AI INTEGRATED GYM!!!! Before I go into why my review is bad of this place, let me say…read morethat this was not always my perspective of this gym. I was so impressed with the gym that I drove up from LACEY multiple days a week, a 45 minute drive one way on average with traffic. I liked the Iso-lateral equipment and some of the body builder stuff. Only to show up this week and see that the owner decided it was a marvelous decision to install an AI vending machine. Billions of styles of vending machines out there, all made to improve the systems and processes of ensuring products dont get stuck and that payments go through correctly. Just so that the owner can make a couple more bucks and provide beverages outside of normally staffed hours. Funny considering there is already on call staff for the phones in case you cant get into the building that live close enough that if you needed help, they could show up. (according to other staff when I was starting at the gym, was said in the tour) they could get a nice, not ai vending machine and just have someone already on call show up to fix it if it got stuck. I am so disappointed that the owner decided to be part of the problem and support these systems that are causing these data centers and water pollution. Obviously a very broad statement but those who understand the problem with AI understand what I mean, and if you dont you should probably start reading up on it more. I canceled my membership over this. Genuinely heart broken over the owners decisions. BEWARE THE AI SUPPORTER

I write this review on Bo and Fitness Ablaze after working out with him for more than a year now…read more I have had the pleasure (or is it pain?) to attend both his boot camp class and individual training sessions. I was introduced to his class by my wife who loves the structure and accountability that his boot camp provides. My takeaway, as someone who was already going to the gym, is Bo's focus on having you workout with an increased heart rate is really beneficial! My normal gym workouts were like many typical guys where you do a set then take a rest. Bo, who prescribes to the Alwyn Cosgrove workout philosophy, focuses on keeping your heart rate up during the ENTIRE workout. A real challenge even for those of us who were used to a gym routine prior to taking his class. I have been pleased with the results and I feel both healthier and stronger. The good news is the workouts are fairly quick, 40 minutes or so. The challenging news is you will be pushed regardless of your abilities and likely to your limits. And that is the whole point. Your body responds in spades when pushed to its perceived limits. Another feature I have enjoyed about Bo's class is although it is challenging on your body it is typically NOT hard on your body. As someone who has sustained his share of injuries, I can assure you Bo's class is likely not going to injure you. Many of the exercises simply use your own body weight. In addition, Bo pays particular attention to your workout form as well as him having the unique ability to create a workout (even on the fly) around an injury you may have. My final observation that I have noticed with Bo is that his youthful enthusiasm for living a healthy lifestyle tends to rub off on you. Or in this case, on me. It's as if he is not jaded by the litany of excuses one can pour on him and rather he is simply enthused about you becoming a healthier human being. His enthusiasm becomes contagious. You will find yourself in the unique position of actually not wanting to miss a class! I have never seen Bo slack on his focus or determination for helping others improve their health. Ironically he takes our health as seriously as we all should... In conclusion, Bo is willing to help you rise above all the noise society throws at you and really focus on what's important. In this case, it's a focus on you and YOUR health! At the end of the day, what's more important then that?
