I had some preconceived notions of what a boxing gym would be and I couldn't have been more wrong. All of the people training at Box Around are great people. Bud Lakin, is a great trainer and an even better person. I came in totally green and after a month I can move around in the ring pretty decently and hit the bag the proper way. The boxing training is great for someone like me that doesn't like to just run. I get a great cardio workout every time I go and I've already lost about 6 pounds of flab. I really can't stress enough how good the atmosphere of this gym is. There's no swearing and yelling, just a bunch of people training that are very supportive of each other. My kids are a little young to bring in the gym, but once they're a little older I will bring both as soon as I can. The price is more than reasonable especially considering the attention you get from Bud. If you have always been curious about picking up boxing even if it's only for fitness and confidence, Box Around is an awesome place to go. A quick side note, I called about 3 to 4 gyms trying to get some info up front and Bud was the only person to call me back. I'm very happy that he did, I wouldn't want to train anywhere else. Here is the link to their site, the posted one doesn't work at the moment. http://boxaroundboxingclub.com

I will preface this review with why we decided on boxing for a 5 year old - My 5 year old son who…read moreis very small for his age was being picked on by some older children, and once I saw this with my own eyes I decided it was time to teach him how to stand up for himself and give him some confidence that would allow him to grow into the person he is meant to be. (not beaten out of him by bullies) My son after 5 weeks- He knows the proper stance, how to properly throw a punch, hit the heavy bag, balance shadow boxing on a tire, and even hit the gloves in the ring. Bud Lakin is firm but kind, quickly gaining my sons respect. He has given my son a new level of confidence. My son is able to handle the corrections Bud makes to his stance or rhythm because he knows Bud is helping him and knows it comes from a good place. The lessons are reasonably priced and really the best money my husband & I have ever spent (we both agree). We are doing twice a week on Tuesday and Thursdays and each time the lesson is over my son is amazed how fast the hour and a half went and eager to stay longer. The gym has other children around 10-14yrs old in at the same time, and they are kind and encouraging to my son and polite and respectful to myself. There are also usual a couple of other men and women training who are also friendly and make us feel welcome. Last week Bud had my son work in the ring with a grown man...the man was on his knees so he was eye level with my son and allowed my son to practice his boxing skills on him, bobbing and weaving to make it a real challenge for my son teaching him how to move like a boxer . It was a real highlight for my son. Also, with the children, there is NO contact, meaning my son does not ever get hit. These lessons really build his confidence and keep him safe. My husband plans on taking lessons once he gets a few days off from work. Bud is teaching my son lessons that will stick with him forever. These are life skills in this tough society we now live in. I highly recommend this gym for anyone interested in learning the art of boxing, I enjoy watching Bud Lakin work with my son and the others training. It is like watching a master teacher. You can see he does it for the love of boxing, not the money.

The owner was never there and the trainers couldnt promise they could be in my corner for the charity fight. I wasted a 10 dollars for the month membership and a private lesson. To make matters even worse MY ELECTRIC BIKE WAS STOLEN right outside the gym, No one has checked the cameras or even got back tome right after it happened. It was a $400-600 dollar bike that I used to get to the gym and train station. And still no word on the bike or them looking at the cameras. You can't even get a in touch with the gym. Upstairs they have a full octagon, some wrestling mats, and some speed bags. Needless to say, that is where most of the mixed martial arts training happens. Additionally, there are lockers and shower (one in each bathroom) on site. They run classes everyday for all ages. You get a good mix of people here with men and women ranging in age from 12 - 60+ of varying abilities. There is sparring if you are interested and a number of pros workout here, most notably Joe Lauzon. It doesn't really have the traditional sweat stench of a boxing gym which I am completely fine with.

After 30 Check-Ins on Yelp.. I think I can finally leave a review here!…read moreI won't lie, moving to Natick to live and work right after college was tough. After work and with no car yet, I find myself stuck in my apartment with nothing to do and no nearby gym to go to for a workout. I am not the most sports-lovin' person, but I love attending kickboxing classes here! The instructors are all incredibly friendly and good, and even if you can't do a specific move there is always modifications available. It's an hour long and the first 10 minutes is usually the toughest - they make it fun! Classes switch up each week, working on different parts of your body. There are multiple class times available each day, which makes it really convenient if you miss your usual class - you can just join another! I usually go for the evening classes which have about 10-15 people, and starts off with around 20% bag work, and more circuit trainings/sets afterwards. Outside of the awesome workout itself, the studio is like a little Natick community.. lots of cute kids coming in for Jiu Jitsu, HIIT Kickboxers, parents waiting for their kids etc. I'm glad I found it!

Got this from groupon. This place isn't bad for a fitness class. It's just OK in my opinion…read more PROS: -multiple class times, at varying times -good workout CONS: -no place to change -no place to get water but the bathroom sink -built in with a martial arts studio, so there are children everywhere -no commoradrie amongst fellow class goers -they have no adults running the counters. They all appear to be teenagers, so they don't have customer service one could hope for. -they're a little extreme with their shoe policy. You can't wear shoes from the outside inside, and prepare to have one of the teenagers tell you off. If you're like me and accidentally wear them into the parking lot to grab something from you car, prepare to take them off and do the workout barefoot. So, take what you will from it!

Lots of free weights, grunge type..you know, where you actually sweat. Well, this is one of those places with a twist. There are two separate buildings; side-by-each as we say in RI. One houses the strength conditioning equipment (weights, treadmills) and the other is the cardio side which houses the boxing ring, heavy bags and everything else you would typically find in a MMA environment. What's nice is it's not your typical (Yo, Adrienne!) type gym or mentality. I would estimate it is evenly split 50/50-male/female...as more people become aware of the benefits of this type of cardio/core training. There is instruction (group and private) at all levels including: children's sessions in Boxing and Jujitsu; adult Muay Thai; BJJ, Boxing (non-contact) and sparring (only if you wish). While there are other places that offer some type of self-defense training, this is the ONLY boxing venue in the area. Overall, the best price structure as well. So if you're a beginner-advanced, just want to lose weight....OR MAYBE...you want to learn a good take down move the next time the guy in front of you is about to clear out the crab legs at the buffet...then this is the place.
