I have sold many items through Gerrards and very rarely without a problem. They regularly lose items although they do always find them againeventually! On 3 occasions I have put items in with a valuation of 40-60 so I have put a reserve price of 40 on it and they sold it for 6 which is a price they don't go as low as (I asked and was told £10 minimum) yet would not honour the reserve price and still took their commission which is very high from it anyway. I have items in the auction this weekGod knows what they have managed to screw up this time. Although they are very unprofessional I have never had an issue with the attitude of the girls its always the guy in his 30's (apparently a partner in the business) infact on 1 occasion I brought in a pair of tiffany lights, a murano glass vase, some wedgewood paperweights and some jewellery only to be told by this pillock it was general house hold items so they would put it all in 1 lot with an estimate of 10-20 so I told him they certainly wouldn't so I had a great argument with him and ended up being told I was no longer welcome there and he would make sure I didn't sell anything there again so I went back a different day to see someone with a brain (the senior partner ideally Russell I think) and gave them a mates name for them to go under. I have also had items returned to me for example a pair of brass ceiling lights which they failed to sell yet I put them on ebay and they went for £54. I have also had items returned to me which ended up damaged and they are not interested and I have had several items which they have listed without pictures at all (I have noticed this is quite common) and I have had to ring up and pester them sometimes more than once for there to be a picture there at all. There is also a market 2 doors down where a stall holder (not the owner) does 'deals' before the auction even takes placeI was told about this from a very sketchy source however I have been withness to the dealings myself when dropping items off as he doesn't recognise me and pretended to be a member of staff read more

This is the most badly organised auction house that I have dealt with and disrespectful to buyers. When buying at auction, wether you are a collector or a dealer there is a standard of service that is expected. Firstly, honest appraisal on lots sold and a smooth buying experiance. Sadly, Gerrads fails in both these respects. I would like to warn readers of this revue to be aware that if they are seriously interested in buying any items from Gerrads (I wouldn't bother if I were you), they must ensure that they obtain a verbal appraisal of the items condition, before bidding. I have bought too many items from this auction house that I can only say have been missrepresented in the lot discription and / or have faults that have not been declared. For example, a pair of early 20th century bronze Chinese vases which infact turned out to be recently made, one with the base missing! I would seriously question the competence of thier valuer!! Sadly buyers have very little protection though, the auction house just spouts some rubbish that items are sold as seen, which is ridiculous if you are selling to people on the web, after all they only provide one photo. Why can't they just have some respect for their buyers and put down an honest detailed description, listing all faults? I disputed my last purchases, they then decided to relist all the items, without telling me and as I bid for them at the sale room they contacted the sale room to complain and the sale room put a blcok on my biddng! Added to this, thier organisation is rubbish, I have travelled 80 miles to collect items, only to wait for them to waste 45 minutes of my time looking for ths stuff, some of which they 'could not find'. i would avoid gerrards auction, i used to be a regular buyer spending thousands in each sale, but they regulary lost items i had bought, then lots of items i bought as genuine turned out to be fakes such as a 18ct gold dunhill lighter that cost me about £900 this was confirmed fake by dunhill, a rolex clock bought as genuine confirmed as fake by rolex, a mabel lucie atwell painting sold as genuine confirmed as a fake, a krays photo album including a charles bronson drawing confirmed as a fake, a 19th century scrimshaw walrus tusk confirmed fake and modern resin, 19th century photos of boxers and cricketers were just modern prints, after i started to complain gerrards just started to ignore me and said if i contacted them again they would contact the police and have me arrested for harrasment, they still have £1500 of my money which id sent towards items id bought and also they had approx £8,000 worth of my own antiques which i had given them to sell, but as i trusted them i never got any receipts for items i left with them, and soon as i complained they denied all knowledge of having any of my items. i will be taking legal action along with several other people, so anyone else who has had any similar problems please email me at dparker224@aol.co.uk and i will give you further information on who you can complain to. read more

Does anyone know the professional body / ombudsman that is the correct one to complain to regarding this company. I let them take 70+ books, several first editions so they can advise me whether to auction / keep them. I was never given any information regarding their worth but, 2 boxes of my books were put into an auction. I asked how many books were in each box as their catalogue didn't have photographs. In the end I made several trips to Gerrards as my queries were not answered. 13 books were in one box 17 in the other, none of the books were the first editions. This means 41 books were missing. After constant emails, telephone calls and visits to the showroom they found another 9. Still, 32 books are missing. I have been offered £50, a good will gesture which would just about cover our travel expenses. There are other indiscretions but its too long winded to go into. I have been left these items and feel sick to the stomach that I have let some treasured possessions go to what I feel is no more than a glorified jumble sale. I feel upset and completely let down by some of the responses I received, along with ripped off! read more

lovely staff shame about the auction i have bought from gerrards on several occasions, one time i purchased 17 items, when i came to collect they could only find 14 of them, 3 were missing and never found, suprisingly 2 of these turned up in future auctions and i was told they were not the ones i had won. on seperate occasions there has always been missing items which now they just refund which is ok, but most of the missing items are the so called bargains! only recently i bought a very pretty royal worcester vase which was described as perfect condition, this cost me a small fortune, after i had taken it home my husband was inspecting it when he noticed some fine flaking inside, it turns out it had been heavily restored, i contacted the auction and they refused to do anything as they said i should have inspected it closer, the auctioneer then had the cheek to say i had dropped it and had it restored myself, as a local buyer i will never go back there. so i hope this will be a good warning for any potential buyers to check things very closely no matter if they say its perfect or not. i wouldnt trust them with a bargepole read more

I am highly disappointed that you removed my completely honest review of Gerrards auction house. Why have a review site when clearly an honest review is not allowed to be put on. I was hoping to help prevent what happened to me and my family from happening to anyone else. It was utterly upsetting especially under the circumstances that it happened under. They are nothing but liars and theifs trading to solely benefit their own pockets. From other things I have heard about then many people have reported having found the same problems with them so I am not on my own. The fact that you removed my honest account of my dealings with then is as though you are condoning their behaviour and are one sided. Why have a review site where you can only post positive. I can't believe these below reviews are talking about the same place!!! I bought from Gerrards for the 3rd time yesterday and they have been nothing but helpful. The reception staff are kind and helpful, the porters were quick at finding my items and also offered to pack & carry them down the stairs for me as I was struggling with the weight. All the items I have bought over the past 2 months have been described correctly. Although I do view and inspect every item as I like to satisfy myself before any auction. People complaining about the terms and conditions, if you don't agree with their terms then don't buy from their auction. I would happily recommend this auction house to my friends. Sara. read more

I will defend dparker224 and I must say what a superb job he is doing, I have also had some terrible dealings with GERRARDS in the past, luckily i do not buy from them anymore mainly because of all the damage and restoration they fail to describe, my eyesight is not the best and i rely upon the expertise of the auction description, I have been stung once too often by GERRARDS, likewise when you speak to other local dealers most have had bad dealings and now buy elsewhere. i wish dparker224 in his campaign. My one and only experience with Gerrards was awful. I took a pair of David Shepherd prints, I advised them that I knew the price I was expecting, so I asked for them to put a reserve price on them. They didn't notify me of the auction date and forgot to send me any emailsl. After a couple of weeks I went back to see them and discovered they had sold the pair for £20.00. I was outraged at their despicable attitude and dishonest selling of the prints. I complained and got no where. All I can say is the buyer got a bargain and I will never use Gerrards again. My first experience of Gerrards today and i was very impressed. I bid online and couldn't pick my items up for a couple of weeks.When I rang to explain this I was treated very courteously and assured it wasn't a problem. As it happened it was a viewing day when I went to pick up my stuff and there were other items I wanted to see, the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable, nothing was too much trouble and my items were in excellent condition and just as described. terrible auction most if not all the german militaria is fake being sold as genuine. Also i used to leave commission bids there but every time i did the sale started at my highest bid everytime. its also amazing how many times you get outbid by someone else on commission only for the item to appear in the next sale again! oh and don't get me started on oh sorry we've lost that item or its been stolen after you've paid and sorry we don't do refunds only credit notes! the auctioneer is also up his own arse and obviously knows nothing with the fakes hes selling!! read more

Gerrards auction sells fake /reproduction items but says they are genuine, then when you complain they say it is up to you to decide whether the items are genuine or not even though they were listed in their catalogues as the genuine thing, after my complaint they said if you check the small print we do not refund on anything.This is so wrong it is the worst auction house ever !! so disappointing, what could/should be a good experience left us angry and out of pocket NEVER Again !! read more

One of the best Auctions in the country i loved it there. The staff helped me with selling all my items and i cant go up to st annes a lot since i live all the way down in London, but the trip is definitely worth it a couple times a year to go have a look around and when i bring jewellery up i know they will help me sell it for the best possible price thank you for your wonderful service i'll see you again soon. read more

The slowest auctioneer in the business. Of my last three auctions with them, two had lots lost, and one with three items took over half an hour to find. (They were in seperate locations in the room). Quite possibly the most disorganised of all auction houses. read more

i do not recommend gerrards - most of the pottery i bought was damaged or restored. silver i bought as silver was just silver plated. if you think you have got a bargain they will suddenly lose the lot when you go and collect. avoid at all costs read more
