Revising my original review as I've had additional challenges relating to the incompetence of front desk staff. I have been trying for three weeks now to get a simple statement showing my payments to MFCC for FSA substantiation and just now received an email bounceback that their office is closed all week. Firstly, it's impossible to reach the front desk - voicemail only. Then they call you back from an unlisted number, so it's impossible to know who is calling. Argh. Then, the doctor requires that you submit new patient paperwork via email for her to review before you are allowed to make an appointment. The reason given is that she might decide she doesn't think you fit in her practice. It then takes a week to hear back after emailing over the paperwork. after which, you need to follow up with them, if you want an appointment. No courtesy call the day before to remind you there's an appointment, so you call to see what's doing there and have to let it ring out and call again. Receptionist answers finally and confirms yes, you do have an appointment. You arrive 10 minutes early, then wait until 25 mins past the start of your appointment time to speak with the Doctor. The Doctor is thorough and nice (if quite defensive about being called out for being so late). Attempts by staff to draw blood - the student MA's attempt is painful and she aborts mission. (Bruise is already looking pretty gnarly) Bring in the senior tech to have a go at the other arm - who can't find a vein and aborts mission after digging around for a bit. At this stage, I've been at their office for 1 Hr 40 mins. They tell me they will write a script to go to a lab and have blood drawn. Knowing my personal compliance level to find the time to drive to yet another appointment is very low, tell them not to bother. Needless to say, despite friendly student medical assistant and thorough/friendly Doctor, I'm still in the market for a new GP. A busy schedule, low tolerance for being gratuitously poked with needles and a general aversion to waiting = this probably isn't the right place for me. read more

New diggs. Nice place to visit. The staff is nice and extremely personable. Patient care is great with honest thoughts on how to take care of your issues. I have been with Dr. Carr for many years and she is one of the most caring and friendly doctors I have ever been to. She makes it feel like a true family doctor visit. Its rumored that in the future they are going to have natural medicines and massage therapist. Its truly a one stop shop. read more

I have just recently visited Dr. Carr, but my dad and family have known her for years and always spoke highly of her. My first visit has absolutely blown me away. A terrifically cozy little office in Multnomah Village, I walked into a modern yet calming waiting room. When brought back to meet the doc, I was escorted past the exam room and into her office. That's a first! Talking about my health in a comfortable chair, with my doctor's dedicated attention, instead of the usual rushed doctor making a quick visit while I'm sitting on a sterile exam table, allowed me to be at ease, more open and less nervous. The office also offers naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic, and massage care. These people are awesome! read more

Super friendly staff and doctor. I had my 4 year old daughter with me during my check up and the staff offered us the kids room that was very large with lots of toys. We were both very pleased with everyone there. Actually, this really is the friendliest and most professional doctors office I've ever been to. Disappointed with the bitter response I got through Yelp from this practice. It was definitely not what I or any of my friends expected from a doctor, to say the least... I was just beginning to forget about this place, too. I hope they'll stop indirectly blaming ex-patients for giving low reviews (for very valid reasons) and stop accusing them of "not expressing their feelings" directly, when the patient actually did try several times to get in direct contact. I have always had a hard time finding doctors I like. Dr. Carr was recommended to me by a friend and wow! She is fantastic. In the first visit she got me from taking 15 pills in the morning to 5- resulting in an increase in my energy levels and getting rid of heart palpitations I was having. We sat in her office and discussed nutrition, blood work and my diabetes. We developed a plan together that involved "eating my vitamins," (my new mantra) losing weight and exercise. TOGETHER. I have never had a doctor pay so much attention to what I have to say. That was in May and so far the plan is working. I've dropped over ten pounds and have more energy than I have in years. I also see Aleisha (sp?), the massage therapist and Roberto, the acupuncturist regularly. They are both amazing as well. The entire practice seems to genuinely care about what's going on with your health, and is intent on helping. The word that keeps coming to mind is listen- everyone here listens to you, with absolute attention. Coming from doctors who would often discount what I had to say and talk over me, this is a big deal. Even the reception desk is always beyond helpful and friendly. I feel comfortable here and always feel better after I leave than before I came in. :) read more

This review related to Dr. Kirsten Carr, who I saw and charged me her fee (~$120) to do nothing helpful. I was in pain, she prescribed only an expensive ointment that did me no good at all. Please avoid this Doctor unless you want to play stupid games with her. read more

After a couple of trial visits we are switching our family to Dr. Carr. The office was very family friendly including a separate play area for kids - making it adult friendly as well. It feels more like a relaxing retreat than a doc office. That aside, I was extremely impressed with Dr. Carr. She listened well and was fantastic with my kids. She also was great in explaining everything to me re their condition and treatment because I can get a little over-worried about my kids. My son is asking to go back for another flu shot? That's a first. And my infant daughter just recently had an RSV infection and Dr. Carr talked us through all the alternative treatments. She went on Christmas holiday but made sure to let me know her exact schedule and also made herself available via e-mail and cell phone in case I had any other concerns. One last thing I appreciate is Dr. Carr's sensitivity to costs. My last doctor's office made it very difficult to get a breakdown of everything. She, on the other hand, is very clear on exactly what she is charging and why. She has cash options for non-insured and also is willing to work with the best options for our insurance. (since we were in the process of switching plans during our daughters RSV infection - this all came into play as part of our visit). read more

I have been seeing Dr Carr since approximately 2004 and followed her to her new office. It takes me about 25 min to get to her office now but i don't mind at all because I know she always takes good care of me and its worth the drive. Even when they have bad news to tell you, they make you feel like they are in your corner and will consistently be there throughout the treatments, healing, and the future. The office is a comfortable, calm, and enjoyable experience. If I could I would give them 6 stars. My visit with Dr. Carr and her team was far beyond the best experience I have ever had in my history of Western Medicine. There was high quality in every aspect of my visit. Dr. Carr listened to me with exquisite attention, compassion and respect. I felt like we were working on my health together! I'm very lucky to have Dr Oliver as my PCP. If you are looking for a doctor who is compassionate, caring and takes time to listen then Dr Oliver is one to consider. I was originally referred to her from a friend who feels very similar. Despite having a busy practice, which to me is a sign of a great doctor, I'm almost always able to schedule an appt within a few days of me calling. Dr. Carr and the rest of the staff are great. Truly a medical home model, where they know our whole family and take way more time with us than any other doctor's office I've ever been to. They do an incredibly thorough medical history, and take the time to check in about all physical and mental health concerns each time you see them. They are also remarkably available during off hours-- and you don't get a random person, you get the primary providers from the office. There is never any wait, and they are very thorough. Shortly after moving to Portland I found myself with a knee injury and was in need of a new primary care physician. Finding a decent primary care doctor is always hard, especially when dealing with an injury, so I was prepared for a stressful search! It just so happened that the doctor with the highest reviews in the Portland area lived just two blocks away from me, so I scheduled an appointment. I was pleasently surprised. Dr.Carr's staff members are AMAZING. All of her employees, from the receptionist to the nurses are so kind, helpful, and compassionate. Dr.Carr herself is a great listener and asks a lot of questions. She has always worked me into her busy schedule whenever I have needed to be seen. She also advocates for her patients. When faced with scheduling an appointment to a specialist I was referred to, she assured me that if needed she would call them to ensure that I was seen in a reasonable amount of time. I recently moved out of Multnomah Village and considered, for one moment, finding someone closer to me in the downtown area. After reading other physician reviews I realized that I really had lucked out and am totally willing to make the trek to Multnomah Village. I would honestly continue seeing her even if I moved further out. If you are considering seeing her, do yourself a favor and schedule an appointment! read more
