First off, a slight history: about ten years ago I worked for a law firm that did home foreclosures. We came across Gerarci Law scores of times, or, more accurately, their hapless clients. I heard so many tales of Geraci clients who could not get in touch with their attorney or they were not getting complete answers that it had already soured my opinion of them. Fast forward to now. I've left the legal field for good but after contracting cancer I found myself absolutely bogged down with bills and in threat of losing my car and my apartment. I did a search for BK attorneys and his is the first name that comes up. I figured that, after ten years, they must have undergone some changes. First thing you must know is this is a 'Bankruptcy mill' type of firm. They have multiple attorneys and assistants that will shunt you around before you even speak to an attorney. When I finally got to an attorney he was not rude, per se, but very short with me. His voice had NO compassion. People going through BK are at their final hopes. Someone that at least appears to care would be a great help. I told him I had to file my case immediately. He asked me why. I told him the truth, albeit it embarrassing for me, that I was being threatened by eviction but the eviction had not been filed. He immediately stopped the consultation and said they would not take my case because they do not handle cases when people are going to be evicted because they can't be won. I asked for more specifics and he refused to answer and summarily hung up on me. Can you imagine how that made me feel? I'm recovering from cancer treatment, I reach out to tell this embarrassing story to an attorney who treats me like I'm the lowest form of pond life and then hangs up on me as if I have wasted his time?
No, Geraci Law is not a caring law firm and perhaps a BK lawyer needs to be tough. But if you want any kind of compassion I would recommend you find a lawyer that doesn't paste himself all over tv and has five different offices and who you never actually see. Smaller BK firms will give you a much better experience and offer you advice even if they can't help you themselves. That is because they have COMPASSION. Geraci law....you are people and I am people. Treat people like you would like to be treated. We are down on our luck for any number of reasons and we deserve, if not implore, your compassion. Train your staff on this.
