Our family has been coming to Major Tae Kwon Do for the past five years and have absolutely loved…read moreit. A friend of mine whose daughter is a third-degree black belt here highly recommended this place and we have been extremely happy here. Previously we had our kids in after-school daycare and honestly, I thought it was just a waste of money as they just would draw and play on a computer or watch television, or at least it seemed that way every time I would go into their room to pick them up at Daycare. I decided to enroll my kids at Major Tae Kwon Do as I thought it would be a great way to teach them self-respect, build their confidence, and learn how to work as a team. These are all basic skills all kids need to learn. During the school year, the kids take part in Tae Kwon Do three times a week and they take part in activities like reading, board games, drawing, and making arts and crafts. Mrs. Ji has the kids go over their homework as well and I love that. They don't just sit and play on tablets, phones or watch television all day, so I absolutely love that!!! Grand Master Seong Ji has been operating his school for over 25 years and is highly respected in the Gwinnett County community. When picking a school, it is important to get choose one that is highly respected, knows their art, and is very picky about who they bring in as instructors. Master Ji is always there, as well as his wife. Master Choi, Master Erica, and Master Paul are outstanding because they are Master Instructors. What does that mean? It means that they have their 5th-degree blackbelt or higher. These instructors do not play around and are great role models for kids. Grand Master Seong Ji is a 7th-degree blackbelt and has a Bachelor's degree in Tae Kwon Do from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, South Korea. That says a lot about his commitment to the art and his dedication to his students. I knew before coming here obviously that Tae Kwon Do was from Korea, but was not aware that there were different organizations. Should you ever decide that you want to compete at a very high level per se, the Olympics', you must have your blackbelt from a WTF (World Taekwondo Federation). WTF is the international federation governing the sport of taekwondo and for the Summer Olympic. So if you are going to a Tae Kwon Do school, choose one that is a part of the World Taekwondo Federation vs ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation). Moving on. They have a great summer school program which is a great choice for working parents who are looking for a well-disciplined place that cares about kids well beyond, but where they teach respect. They take part in lots of arts and crafts, Taekwondo classes each day and once a week they go on field trips. Honestly, our childhood is much different than it is for our kids. The world has greatly changed, and I think it is great for kids to grow up and know how to defend themselves should they need to, or protect their loved ones, but most importantly learn to respect others, be around a diverse crowd of people from different cultures and to have respect for others and themselves. This place does a really good job of nurturing that. I would highly recommend Major Tae Kwon Do to any parent or an adult looking to take Tae Kwon Do classes. Master Ji and his wife Mrs. Ji are incredible people. [Review #644]  (16th Review of 2021) Years ago a newspaper did an article on the school. Here is a link for those who are interested in reading about the history and how Master Ji got started. http://majortkd.com/assets/8.1-cover-story-upclose-lilburn.pdf

First and foremost they deserve a huge shout out to their impeccable customer service. They even put the instructor on the line without me asking so he could introduce himself. He asked to setup a time for me to come in and requested that I come in after three so I would be able to meet him. I didn't lead that I'd be signing up for service for sure, so to see him putting this much interest in a prospect was refreshing. I'll be stopping by today and I'll update this review once I see the facility, meet them and possibly sign up.

GENERAL ASSESSMENT Our overall assessment is that Shaolin…read moreInstitute does an amazingly successful job fulfilling its promise as a learning experience for both the body and mind. As we have so far experienced it, Shaolin Institute indeed teaches a "way of life" in which students can experience gratifying physical achievement, whether in Tai Chi or Kung Fu, while also exercising and expanding mindfulness. One of the most appealing aspects of Shaolin Institute is the frequent reference before and after classes regarding how specific cultural, historical, medical, and scientific achievements are directly relevant for learning and appreciating martial arts. TEACHING ASSESSMENT It is impressive that Shaolin Institute exceeds expectations in basically every category used to evaluate teachers. Below are our summaries of Shaolin Institute's multifaceted teaching strengths. CURRICULUM * SI teachers follow the SI curriculum. * SI teachers choose activities for each student relevant to the SI curriculum and each student's level of achievement. * When feasible, SI teachers sometimes helpfully group students together to learn and practice as a group the forms they have previously learned. INSTRUCTION * SI teachers provide direction so that each student knows what to focus on during class. * SI teachers present new forms clearly and logically, and helpfully demonstrate new forms. * SI teachers provide feedback and re-teach forms when necessary. Teachers provide opportunities for students to practice new forms both with and without supervision. MOTIVATION * SI teachers show genuine concern for the students. * SI teachers project a positive, encouraging tone for the classroom experience. * SI teachers establish a level of difficulty, suited for each student's level, which encourages success. SI teachers provide good verbal praise, as well as critique as needed. COMMUNICATION * SI teachers always demonstrate enthusiasm in what they are teaching. * SI teachers explain and demonstrate forms clearly. * SI teachers respond graciously and substantively to questions. EXPECTATIONS * SI teachers communicate expectations to students. * SI teachers listen to students' feedback during class and adjust their teaching pace and content accordingly. * SI teachers encourage students to participate inextracurricular community opportunities, which isimportant for the students' confidence as well as the school's exposure. METHODOLOGY & MATERIALS * SI teachers often vary how they conduct classes, for example by describing the forms, including their origins, applications, etc., and/or by physically demonstrating the forms. Both methods are helpful, especially for students who learn in different ways. * SI teachers sometimes provide supplemental resources, such as video recordings of the classes, which can be exceptionally helpful for students who want to practice at home. EVALUATIVE ACTIVITIES * SI teachers monitor and give feedback on student progressduring each individual class. * SI teachers give oral evaluative comments, as well as sometimes grades or scores. * SI teachers are available for and sometimes proactively create opportunities for one-on-one progress discussions with students. CLASS ENVIRONMENT * SI teachers clearly communicate requirements for attitude and behavior, notably by emphasizing the SI student creed and the rituals of class beginnings and endings. TEACHER-STUDENT INTERACTIONS * SI teachers make an effort to know each student as an individual. * SI teachers routinely work to promote positive self-image in students. * SI teachers routinely create a classroom climate in which students are encouraged to grow and assume personal responsibility for their growth. LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOR * SI teachers are observed routinely cooperating graciously with their teaching peers, demonstrating authentic respect for one another. * SI teachers are often observed sharing ideas and methods with their fellow teachers. * SI teachers are observed regularly seeking to advance their own growth. This continuing education, observed by the students, is motivating to the students and demonstrates how we are all learning and growing.
