Nothing like the Four Corners Monument we visited in 2012 that marked the quadripoint in the Southwestern US (where the states of AZ, CO, NM, and UT meet). No, this four corners intersection are made of historic buildings -- Courthouse and US Post Office,, State Courthouse, City Hall, and the St. Michael's Church. 1- United States Post Office and Courthouse - 1896 Post Office, representing the federal government 2- State Courthouse - this 1792 courthouse represents county government 3- City Hall -symbolizes city government which begun in 1800 4- St. Michael's Church - the church was built between 1752 and 1761 and depicts ecclesiastical law These amazing historic structures are located on the southwest corner intersection of Meeting and Broad Streets in downtown Charleston. For our Monday visit the streets were pretty empty due to Covid and I was able to get some nice shots of the buildings. Interesting trivia: The Four Corners of Law was coined in the 1930s by Robert Ripley, creator of Ripley's Believe it or Not! and it has been called that ever since. Review #1847

The county was formed in 1764 though the county seat was not moved to Bolivia until 1978 with this courthouse completed in 2001 along with the other buildings in this county government complex. the courthouse is a three-story structure built of structural steel, concrete, and stone. The building presents a formal, symmetrical façade with a prominent northeast-facing portico supported by four large columns. These rise to a wide entablature that frames the recessed third story, I would describe it as neither Modernist nor Classical Revival, as the building has a sense of classical gravitas while maintaining a contemporary footprint. The interior has a grand staircase rising to the second story and five courtrooms. The building houses the County Superior Court and County District Court of the 13th Judicial District. The government complex is massive and so there is plenty of parking that is a short walk to the building. It is not open on the weekends and even if it was, cameras are not permitted inside. Still, you can walk the grounds to admire this impressive structure. [Review 1364 of 2025 - 4483 in North Carolina - 24916 overall]

The road is wide enough here that you can stop to read the sign and admire the home from the outside. As near as I was able to tell, it is not open for interior tours. The marker reads, "This house, one of Georgetown's earliest, was built ca. 1737 by John and Mary Perry Cleland. Mrs. Cleland inherited the property from her father John Perry, who had been granted a large tract in 1705 including the site of present-day Georgetown. This house is a raised tidewater residence with its main entrance facing the Sampit River. It features elements of the Georgian and Federal styles." And on the reverse, "In 1753 the house was purchased by the Cleland's nephew Archibald Baird. He made small additions to each end of the house and relocated the main entrance to Front Street. A porch was added there ca. 1780. Later prominent owners of the house included John Withers, Jr., Francis Withers, Dr. Joseph Blythe, and Robert F.W. Allston." It is marker 22-48 and was erected by the Georgetown County Historical Society in 1997. [Review 19417 overall - 991 in South Carolina - 387 of 2023.]
