George's has been taken over by his Grandson, Nik, and it's fantastic! We went twice the week we just spent in Belper. They have a crazy take-out deal, I think maybe £5 for a small haddock and chips, but we ate in the restaurant both times. I had the haddock, Hubby had the cod, and they were both excellent. Georges is hands down the best fish and chips in the area. It's greasy and fatty but melts like butter in your mouth. The cod is always fresh. Large fillets and plenty of chips to go with. Get 2 fillets for a good meal, but get 3 fillets if you want to go into a food coma. All the other options are fantastic as well. Go there now to find your new favourite chip shop. read more

The original Georges Tradition and still a high quality to this day, it has changed vastly from when it first opened in Belper many years ago as just Georges and some of the wonderful things like mushroom and onion gravy have gone off the menu but it still is one of the best fish and chip shops around with everything on the menu you would expect and not one of them is bad. These are the finest mushy peas I have ever tasted and the fish is great. The staff are friendly and efficient and I can honestly say I have never had a problem with any member of staff or my order in the many years I have been going there. For a chip shop it is a strange phenomonen as I know people that travel miles to go here. Following the initial success of this fish and chip shop a number of others were opened in the derbyshire and nottinghamshire areas. I would take Georges Tradition over Harry Ramsdens any day of the week. read more

George's is the very best George's Tradition is a multi award winning fish and chip shop located on the A6 in Belper. It is easily the best in the area but I think it is the one of the best in the country. It has good value, generous portions of fish and chip that are freshly made. The cod has a crispy batter with lots of texture and taste while the chips are chunky and always well cooked to perfection! You can tell it's good, it's always heaving at thee weekends but the queuing is well worth it. Great for when coming back from a day out and you're too tired to make anything and then the thought of George's Tradition comes into your head. Highly recommended read more

Staff are always polite and work well together, food is always hot and tasty. Georges might not be the cheapest fish and chips in Belper but you won't get any bits you can't eat :) read more

Fantastic! Great food and service. Food is quick and the staff are pleasant. Prices aren't bad either, chip butties are about 99p. There's a restaurant next door, though we didn't try it. read more

Make sure you do have the fish because they sure can't cook/heat anything else, how hard is it to cook a pukka pie lol rubbish much better going to the shop in king street read more
