The lunch is so optional and so many different selections everyday. Not same old same old. The lunch also actually has flavor. The school isn't dark and depressing and students actually seem to enjoy there time. Hands on work I'm science classes which make it so much fun. The library is beautiful and colorful. Not just bland solid walls like PMHS.

This was obviously not a new school, but you wouldn't know it from the looks of the interior. Every paint job was top-notch, and it seems as though I could have eaten off the gym floor (although I highly advise against it). So, kudos to the maintenance/custodial staff at Decatur Central. I wish my high school back in the 80's looked half this good.

Signage is decent getting into the place. I know that they're academics are not strong here, and they usually place near the bottom of the metropolitan area. Their music programs have been strong in the past and seemed to be on the build again. Sporting teams are hot and cold. The building is large and spread out lots of really nice things and lots of things that just haven't been kept up.

The stadium is used for football and for track. They also offer softball, baseball, soccer and powderpuff. The fields are kept nice, and there is benches to sit on at the softball and baseball field. The best part is they have an Area 31 Center where even students can come in from other districts to be certified in culinary, aesthetician, criminal law, pharmacy tech... There is so much offered at the school, and the grounds are kept up. This is a great place to come and walk, as there is even a little area that has some really large trees and shade around the baseball field. There is also a very large area that completely encompasses the entire campus. This is great for long walks. (without dogs attacking you)

The school runs like a typical elementary and has severa support options for tuition, lunches, and assistance with other fees/activities. Parents are welcome to volunteer and attend events which their children. iPads are provided for technology learning, and Students attend STEAM, music, PE, and library throughout the week. If you're feeling adventurous, you can take a walk in the woods located behind the school and enjoy the sounds of nature or stop at the outdoor classroom. Additionally there are playgrounds surrounding the area ranging from simply swings, to small slides, to larger playground equipment.

Luckily we got the win, but I could see how that can affect the play and atmosphere. The refs called the game pretty fairly. Bleacher seating was sufficient for the crowd. The parking lot isn't very big at this gym, and could fill up quickly, but I got here early. The athletic door was not clearly labeled, so I followed where the players went in. If this venue hosted a larger event, parking would be a problem.

I give it an average star rating because these days is just a costly version of any typical, yet capable public school with the addition of arrogance in their approach.

I've often tried to sift through all our years and determine what they most learned/received at Orchard and if I had to pick one attribute (and there are many), I'd pick confidence. They are all confident public speakers. For example, when my daughter was a junior in high school, she won an award that required her to speak at a dinner with over 400 people present. I tried several times to get her to practice and review her speech in advance, knowing that the previous recipient had a professional speech writer. In frustration, one evening she said, "Mom, I went to Orchard. Don't worry." She delivered a flawless speech without notes. They are all confident about their ability to learn. Orchard likes to say they help create lifelong learners and they do. Each of our children knows how to learn and they like to learn. They are all confident expressing themselves to anyone. In high school, their teachers observed that unlike many shy teens they were not afraid to ask questions and advocate for themselves or for others. And, this has continued throughout their college and post-graduate years. Orchard invites and teaches children how to respectfully approach adults. At Orchard, education is not just about science, English, history, etc. While these are important, it's also about helping develop good people and preparing them for the future.
