This review is a small adventure…read more..
After arriving in Sunderland later in the evening, right around 8 PM, I decided to do a short stroll then find something to eat. Turns out, there isn't much to do in the city center after closing time on a Friday.
I stumbled across this little place, and I stopped in to see what the prices were and what the food was. Turns out, the food was really better than I was expecting. These little takeaway places are a dime a dozen in Newcastle, and they usually are full of greasy comfort food.
The place sold greasy comfort food too, but the pepperoni pizza was the best that I've had in the UK. It was definitely a New York style pizza, at heart. The pepperoni, however, were under the cheese, something more typical of Chicago style. Good crust, good sauce, and good cheese--the pizza was a winner. Good pizza at a very very reasonable price!
The real adventurous part came when the owner saw me snapping photos of his place... He was concerned, rightfully so, I believe. He told me that I should ask permission before I take pictures... eh, I'll take my pictures. When your store front ends up on Google Street View, (http://bit.ly/aQlPns), you can't really complain about a student snapping a few pictures of your store...
The owner, after hearing my story, encouraged me to take more pictures. He was even kind to me after it. I dropped a can of Coke that I just purchased from his store while I was getting out my camera (to appease him). He swapped it for free! So, it was an adventure.
This place is just a short walk from the banks of the Wear, which is a very nice area of for walks and viewing public sculptures. If you're in that area of Sunderland, stop on in. If you take some pictures of this place, however, you might want to say something to the shop owner...
