A little over a year ago I found such a veterinarian; Dr. Ashbaugh at Trident Veterinary Hospital. Trident Veterinary Hospital is family owned and everyone who works there, including his wife Monica, Brittany, and the whole crew, are so friendly and helpful. Dr. Ashbaugh is knowledgeable, thorough, and experienced veterinarian who truly cares about all the pets he treats. He takes the time to explain diagnoses and treatment options and will make a recommendation if asked. He completely answers all your questions enabling you to make the best-informed decisions for your pets. In the past I would spend so much time attempting to research any health issues that came up and figure out what was going on or what can be done on my own. What a relief it is now to have a veterinarian I 100% trust to figure out what's going on and give me the best advice to keep my pets healthy. Dr. Ashbaugh's knowledge, experience, and dedication are evident with every visit where we get exceptional customized care. He listens sincerely to all your concerns first and then puts all his knowledge into finding the best solution. If one thing doesn't work for your individual pet, for whatever reason, he will try something else, until he comes up with the best solution everyone feels comfortable with. One example of how I knew I found the best veterinarian, is that in the years past our dog had been limping on and off, but I was told by other vets that she was fine and I kept getting sent home with no plan to help her even though it was obvious she was in pain. As soon as Dr. Ashbaugh examined her he immediately noticed her left rear leg had significantly atrophied. She ended up needing a TPLO (knee) surgery which was performed by an attending veterinary orthopedist. The clinic is kept meticulously clean and sterile, which is extremely important going into surgery to avoid any chance of infection. Her leg never even swelled the slightest bit and the incision healed perfectly. She was okayed to go back to activities 8 weeks later, and within 6 months she was back to normal and so happy to be back at the beach; her absolute favorite place in the world! Just seeing how happy she is, makes me smile! Another example of how I knew I found the best veterinarian, is that my cat isn't always cooperative when I bring him in for an appointment. In the past I have been told by previous clinics to drug him, which I have not wanted to do because he is sensitive to medications. He has had FIC which means his stress level has to stay low, and now that he is older has borderline CKD, so any medication side effects could be damaging. Knowing this, when my cat had to go in for a dental, Dr. Ashbaugh figured out just the right mixture to enable him to perform the dental while also keeping my cat in a good mood throughout the procedure. The medication wore off reasonably quickly after he came home and there were no side effects! Also, you should know Dr. Ashbaugh provides the best dental I have ever seen! He actually x-rays the teeth, like our human dentists would, so he knows for sure what's going on and won't do any unnecessary work. When my cat came home from his dental at Trident Veterinary Hospital his teeth were not only clean, but sparkling white! I had never seen them that sparkling white in his whole 11 years of being! And you could tell they were feeling good too, because his appetite has been better since. I have also been to Trident Veterinary Hospital for routine check-ups and vaccinations, coughing, bumps and lumps, and anything going on that I was concerned about. You just call them saying you arrived, they come pick up your dog, the doctor gives you a call w/ info, and then they return your pet. You pay online afterwards. We arrived early and did have to wait 10-15 min past our appointment time, but it was nothing too bad. I wasn't really sure what to expect when Dr. D called, but she was very thorough with her assessment and very helpful with her recommendations. Aiko was able to get vaccinated the same day as her examination and we were sent home with a puppy survival handout and some flea and deworming medication. Overall, the people were polite and the price also seemed reasonable and affordable!

Until now, we hadn't had any major issues. Today, we had an appointment specifically for the rabies and parvo vaccines. After we got home, our dog vomited five times in a row. We called the clinic, and they had us come back in, where he was given two more injections to address the side effects. While on the way back, I reviewed the invoice and noticed that four vaccines had been administered, not just the two we had scheduled. When I asked why this wasn't communicated, the response was, "Next time, clarify which vaccines you want when you check in." I had already done that. The appointment was booked for two specific vaccines, and I clearly mentioned both at check-in. I was then told they automatically give all due vaccines unless otherwise instructed. If that's their policy, it was never clearly explained to me and I plan to review our past vaccination records to verify the vaccines were actually due. To top it off, we were charged $82 for the extra shots to counter the side effects caused by their lack of communication, bringing the total cost of today's visit to over $300. This visit left us feeling frustrated and taken advantage of. Lack of transparency, poor communication, and a refusal to take ownership of mistakes cost them our trust and our continued business.

They said they'd be happy to scan him. When we arrived, they supplied me with a leash because I'd been carrying him. The scan found a chip and they were able to put me in touch with the dog's owner, and he was back home the same afternoon. Really appreciate how helpful and quick the staff here was! And they let us keep the leash to get him home safely :)

After talking to the vet he also would not take any responsibility and denied that the medication induced the vomiting or made my dog lethargic. Just told me to stop giving the dog the antibiotics medication, then why have me pay for the medication if less than 18 hours to stop taking it. Doesn't make sense to me, especially when it's antibiotics. This vet has gone down hill after Dr.Bayon left and it now seems more like a money grab. I used to recommend people here, but now it seems they don't actually care about the well being for the pets, as they expressed no sympathy for what they caused to my dog and seem to just prescribing meds maybe when they are not actually needed. Also my dog was not experiencing the vomiting or lethargic symptoms before I took her in. She was there for diarrhea. Also while I was sitting in the lobby waiting for my dog to be returned I heard Dr.Mayor saying rude remarks in Spanish as he stormed out of the back office and out the front door. When this awful situation presented itself last weekend, I was beyond grateful to find VCA Urgent Care Mira Mesa's amazing online waiting room and excellent text-based updates. When we arrived, Stephanie was ready with a smile to help us get checked in -- she wasn't behind a counter, but in the waiting room with us. What a wonderfully welcoming touch! She quickly got us into an exam room and continued the intake, asking lots of questions so that the vet would know what she would be dealing with. The room was nice and clean and private and even had a little sign with our names on it as well as the vet's. Too cute! Dr. Del Rosario was amazing -- super kind and caring and sincere, she wanted to know all about Zorro! She got a good plan together and we were out the door within an hour and he's doing great almost a week later. So grateful for her help! I truly can't recommend them highly enough. She's very empathetic, patient, and knowledgeable. She gave us options rather than making us feel obligated to do all of the tests appropriate for our dog's issue. She showed us his X-rays and was very sweet towards our pup. The place is new - just opened up in December. There's drinks and snacks in their waiting room. The facility is extremely clean and modern. I don't live nearby, but this is definitely a place we would turn to if needed.
