For starters, this website forced me to click at least one star in order to leave a review. This…read moreattorney has failed all the way around. He may handle petty traffic cases well, however when we initially retained him we informed him how we are more so concerned not with the actual charges that the defendant had pending ( because defendant was granted a P.R bond on actual charges) , but that we were more so concerned with the pending violation which is why they wouldn't release him from jail. I've put in more work trying to get to the bottom of this and that's sad. That being said, This attorney has told us "oh I'll write a letter to the probation and post release " (back in December ). I went to see Howlett Monday to renew that same request that he contact probation / post release ( Also note , the post release division had the defendants violation hearing without an attorney present period ) and all of a sudden Mr. Howlett doesn't know anything about post release and wouldn't get involved . (Btw my appt with Mr Howlett was scheduled for 2:30 and I was rushed out of his office by 2:34 even though I was trying to cover all bases regarding what could be done to have this looked into Considering the DEFENDANT HAD NO COUNSEL PRESENT AT HIS POST RELEASE VIOLATION HEARING , I even TRIED to re rout the conversation with with Mr Howlett about how we could go about a reconsideration altogether considering the judge who originally placed the defendant on post release has been REMOVED FROM THE BENCH (Previously know as judge Burrell in city of Norfolk, now she is a commonwealths attorney in the city of Chesapeake ) because that judge had a history of hammering people at sentencing and became disfavored by the new parties in office. Woops. That being said, Howlett told me " no one has a right to reconsideration hearing but you can ask for one, but considering the charge that has him on probation is from 2014 they wouldn't even look at it" . Given the totality of circumstances , you only came up with the quickest cop-out rebuttals that came to mind. This person is a non violent offender and maintained employment and residence for the 2 1/2 years of being out . Laws are changing and actually starting to move in favor of citizens who write the check of these unjust public servants . Furthermore , as an attorney you shouldn't be ducking your clients requests that formed the basis of us retaining you. Not only was your performance trash at the suppression hearing, which due to your ineffective assistance forced him to take a guilty plea because he didn't want to risk getting an unjust sentence once again, but the defendants codefendent beat the same exact charge based on illegal search and seizure and was represented by A public defender. That alone said enough . We would have been better off with a public defender because not only have you lied to us, but you've wasted time and you previously made claims that you didn't even attempt to fulfill. Your lack of interest regarding this matter is disgusting and a disgrace ,but you were all ears when it came to a retainer fee.

Our family court proceeding took nearly 3 years and for 2.5 years their firm went above and beyond…read more A few months leading up to our final hearing I was unable to get in contact with the family law attorney. The day of our hearing our attorney joked with opposing counsel even after opposing counsel said in front of us "These f****** idiots don't want to pay and they are about to be spanked". Our attorney had me sign a final order while only providing the final signature page and not bringing me in front of the judge. After telling her I cannot pay the amount ordered and I may need to sell my house and make myself and other two children and wife homeless, or give up custody. She responded with " That may be an option". She was then unreachable after and I am now left scrambling to find a new attorney to fix this situation. Be careful with this firm and at the first sight of lack of communication, please protect yourself.

We hired him in May 2024 because his family name is on the law firm with other family members who are attorneys. I thought that Anthony would uphold his family name and 4-star reviews. It turned out that he is no longer "trial attorney" that other older reviews referred to or he just did not care about the future of a 20-year-old young man or perhaps that we are not from the area. Not only did he charge us an exorbitant flat fee of $2,500 for the Newport News and Norfolk area. He spent only two 15-minute appointments talking to my son and repeated the SAME 5 lines over and over like a broken record - all of which can be found on any traffic law firm website. Before the court date, he did NO research nor talked to the state trooper or find out anything further about a defense strategy. He DID NOT even get the court to correct or follow through with the correction of the spelling of my son's name. I feel like that is the bare minimum! He had no files and paperwork besides the financial contract we signed with him. Furthermore, each emailed question was responded quickly but with an "I don't know" or no suggestions until the second payment check was cashed. He did not do any background work until 15 minutes prior to court time when the state trooper arrived in the courthouse. That's the extent of his "legal advice". A simple issue like ensuring that my son showed up to the correct court and time was not advised. After the verdict, he tried to make us feel better by saying that he was expecting a lot worse and blamed it on the "substitute judge". As soon as the judgment was rendered, he said that he did not take appeal cases. He did not know how long it would take for processing or how the penalty was paid. The only thing he explained was that 1 day served is equal to 2 days around there. The court called him immediately to say that my son needed his SS# for processing and so he called me and wanted me to return to give that info even though he was still standing at the court house. I asked him politely to go back in and give them the #. He then quickly disappeared and reprimanded me for calling his cell phone afterward. Being generous, I calculate about 3 hours of work including court time so that is $833/hour.

Somehow 45 minutes in court to cross drop charges and very minimal paper work filed is worth $2,400. I think not. I have requested a portion of that fee back ($5-700) and they refused to compensate. I would fully expect to have paid the entire $2,400 if it went to a real trial and I didnt bring cross warrants to the tabel for this firm to use on my own behalf. With having thoes cross warrants we would have been in a trial lasting over an hour on each charge. Myself having cross warrants saved your attorneys time, which should save me money for saving your time in the court room. I would not recommend this law firm to anyone with a simple case like mine unless you want to be ripped off.
