I don't know my guys name but he did great. Have been looking for a new barber for a long time now and I finally got a good one that lives very close to me. He was super nice and the place looked very clean with a bunch of tvs playing sports stuff that I was watching the whole time. Small things like that make it feel like you're actually cared for. Now for the haircut he did a great job excuting my vision. Nowadays a good haircut will run 40-50 but they have a conservative price of 35 for a men's cut, which is amazing. read more

Well where do I even begin. My boyfriend was looking for a barber and after some research he decided on going to Gents. Made an appointment with Danny. We got there and the place was very clean and modern. But thats pretty much why I'm giving them the stars. The cut my boyfriend got was just disappointing. He literally got his hair butchered. At first it seemed as if Danny knew what he was talking about during the first few minutes after my boyfriend sat down but the execution and the result was just horrible. Appointment based barber studio with a variety of barbers and convenient hours. They do a great job and are all attentive to clients requests. The reason for just 4 stars is that they rarely seat you at your scheduled time. Today is the third time I've seen the barber I scheduled sit someone else exactly or a few minutes after my time slot. Okay, so let me first say that I never write reviews. For me to write a review it must be because I am super passionate about what I'm about to say. I only have one word for anyone thinking about going to Gents barbershop in Fair Lawn. BEWARE!!! The phrase "you get what you pay for." DOES NOT APPLY HERE! I can't believe this place has so many great reviews. Which means that everyone's expectations about what they consider to be an amazing haircut is very different. What I will tell you is that I know amazing barbers!! I've had plenty of amazing haircuts in my day. Where a $30 haircut means a facial massage and you leaving feeling like a new man. This barbershop is a JOKE! Here is the reality... The barbershop is aesthetically pleasing, and yes they offer good conversation, but that's to distract you from the fact that their haircut skills are subpar at best. Here's what you can expect... Expect to have your hairline pushed back. Expect for their machines to not be cleaned/sanitized appropriately. Expect to have razor bumps/razor burn. Expect for them to be cheap when using the straight blade, spraying your face with water instead of using a legit cream. Expect the worst shape up/ tape up /fade of your life. Expect excuses from the barber as to why they couldn't get it just right. EXPECT TO LEAVE THE SHOP WITH REGRETS! Bottom line, GO SOME PLACE ELSE! Not worth the money by far. Definitely not worth your time. Save yourself the anguish and go a few towns/county's over. read more

Perhaps it was me being a few moments late for the appointment, but the shave was not complete to start. Sitting in my car and half my neck is not done. There's 2 different musics going on and the barber has earphones in his ears that he's talking to someone on the phone, me, and a fellow barber. There's a 5 year old girl running up and down the aisle "rambunctiously" and the barber chair is not a solid chair. With its "chic" look, it was very unstable with a head cradle that slid. This resulted in me having to slide down to the bottom of the chair while wondering "if this little girl crashes into this flimsy chair, this is going to be a horror movie". As I left, I remembered the smell of egg rolls when I first walked in and realized that it was going to be an experience. Maybe for a kids cut or a hair cut, but no way for a shave. read more

I always take my son to Marco for his hair cuts. He always gives him the best cut and we receive many compliments afterwards. We are in and out in no time, which is always nice. All the barbers always greet us and are very polite to us when we arrive. Best barber shop around :) read more

BUYER BEWARE: Please heed my cautionary tale. If you want a ratchet scalped haircut, Gents is your spot. I walked in this afternoon, and told Danny that I wanted a shape up. I just needed to line up my sides and back. I expressed this when asked what I wanted, but Danny corrected me telling me I wanted a fade. (In reality, he was just trying to upsell me a haircut instead of a shape up, because it's more money for them) WHAT HAPPENS NEXT MAY SHOCK YOU: When asked what length I wanted my hair, I said a 2 to a bald fade. Instead of cutting my sides and back like I said when first asked what I wanted done, Danny starts weedwhacking the top of my head. Within a few seconds, the damage is done. By the time I told him to stop, his ratchet handy work was completed; I was left was scalp showing through my haircut. IF YOUR GOAL IS TO LOOK BETTER THAN BEFORE YOU GOT YOUR HAIRCUT, GENTS IS YOUR PLACE. Avoid like the plague. I will never step foot inside this sketchy highway dive ever again, and if you care at all about your appearance, I would strongly advise you to do the same. read more

The times that I did come here, they gave a pretty good hair cut, but it's nothing you can't get elseware. I've had a bad experience two times that I went here. The first: The barber that took me, berated me because I let me beard grow out very long without trimming it (One of the reasons I went to gents). Slob was one of the words he used. I know he didn't mean to sound insulting, but he did. The haircut he gave was actually not half bad though. The second bad experience: I called in as soon as they opened to make an appointment. I had a family fathers day lunch that I didn't want to be late too. I got in for my scheduled appointment and was told that it would be an hour wait. I ensured him that I had an appointment. He said that since there were only two people working, the walk in's that came in before me (5 or 6 people) would have to go first. I guess that's alright, but when I make an appointment, I expect them to keep that appointment, especially when I'm a regular customer. I won't be going back there again. read more

I been going to the same barber for about 12 years now. Tried different barbers here and there but no one can come close to the precision and care that Blaze (Danny) puts into his cuts. Marco his partner from day one provides the same quality cut. Both are great with the blade. It's great if you and your buddy both need a cut, you can both get cut at the same time. You want a different type of cut? Want to be different? Just bring a picture. They will make you look like it. The only thing I can tell you is to make an appointment. Been here 2 times, Joshua does a great job. I had extremely long hair, and he thought it would be cool to cut it all off and give me more of a Mad Men haircut, it looked great. The place is clean, there's always someone available for a walk-in and they know what they're doing. I have been looking for a decent barber in NJ for ages and I believe I finally found it. The reviews read below are indeed the truth - this place is masculine, yet classy in ambiance. They've got a salon-sized space for their operation and that means a lot - I would not feel comfortable waiting on line really close to a bunch of other guys. Plus the way the space is mapped and the quality of service and ambiance they offer represents the professionalism and their uniqueness. It's really easy to get to (right on route 4) and they have a parking lot behind the premise. There is a front door and a back door that leads to the parking lot. There are a few televisions where you can watch the game while waiting or while being cut. They do the single-blade shaving and some hot wet towel treatment (for the lack of a better word). The barbers are professional, very skillful and friendly at the same time. I believe I read a sign that said that their shape-ups are included with the hair cut - take notice, other barbers! What also was appealing to me was that all sorts of men just kept coming, so they can do anyone's hair and those men didn't feel like they are out of place. There was not an empty chair on a Saturday afternoon. While I heard about Danny and Josh from the other reviews, I didn't have either as my barber. Instead, I had Ron and this guy is also the real deal. I would recommend him as much as anyone else recommends Danny or Josh. Walk-ins are accepted although I would recommend scheduling an appointment if you are in a time-crunch. Overall I had an excellent, comfortable experience and a perfect haircut and shave were the result. I will be coming here from now on! Gents, get here now! read more

Been there twice, both unscheduled walk-ins. Both times I was sitting down for my haircut within 5-10 minutes of getting there. The barbers themselves did a pretty good job, though I actually feel like they took longer than necessary both times. I'm used to my haircuts taking about fifteen minutes, but both times at this place, I'd say it was closer to 30. I respect them trying to make it look absolutely perfect, but honestly, I don't know why it takes so long. Feels like they're going over the same spots. Unfortunately, they jacked the prices up. At my old haircut place, I could go in and pay $17 (that's WITH tip). Here, it's now over 20 (maybe $25) without including the tip. I'm honestly not sure if I'll return as a result. read more

Ive been getting my hair cut here for a few months now and i honestly love this place. Danny has been cutting my hair and he does exactly what i say, takes his time and really makes sure it looks good. The guys that work here all do good work and are friendly and it just a very comfortable place to get your hair cut. I recommend making a reservation for the sake of yourself and the barbers. They do have alot of walk ins and its just easier to set up a time. Also they have an array of products i asked about and then ended up buying some for myself. No pressure from the guys. read more

Update.. Have made these guys my go to place for a "top" hair cut. Everyone in Gents is nice and courteous. The barbershop is a modern shop and is always immaculately clean. Nice music playing in the background and TV's everywhere. My barber is Danny and I am very pleased with him. He always goes out of his way to make every customer happy. In looking around the barber shop while I am getting my cut, all of the barbers are like that :-) I like Danny's attention to detail when he cuts my hair and he is awesome with the clippers.. I usually get a skin fade with my hair cut on the top with a nice shape.. He does a great job. Need I say more... Go check them out, you will not be disappointed! Danny and Josh really know what they are doing. I'm not exactly great at communicating what I want in a haircut, but they've both been able to produce a great cut no matter what I tell them I want. I've seen them do quite a few different styles, as well as the more modern undercut and sleek dapper look. When first finding this place, I honestly passed it a couple of times. I've been a patron of Gents for a long time now and I recently started taking my now 3 year old son. My barber (Marcos) can cut my forver changing haircut and facial hair right, the first time everytime. Marcos was able to set my son up with Josh in order to make our visit there a in and out affair. Josh had great patience for my son and made him feel comfortable to the point where my son now looks forward to getting a cut. My wife and I both loved his haircut too! I came for the first time yesterday after having unsuccessfully gone to couple of barbers around the area, and I must say that these barbershop has been the most pleasant and professional. I got my first cut from murad and he was great. Not only cut my hair exactly how I wanted it but also gave me suggestions on how it would look much better and what to do and not to do when I shave on my own. I would totally recommend this barbershop. I would suggest to make an appointment in advance because it gets full quickly. Honestly, as far as barber shops goes Gents is the best in the area, by far. The price is extremely reasonable, but the attention to detail is really what sets this place apart. They will not only get your hair exactly right, but they'll take care of those little details (eyebrows etc.) that will leave you feeling like a true professional. My last experience kind of killed my desire to return to this shop. I felt like I was totally rushed. Seemed like Josh had blind goggles on. He missed so many hairs on my head and face. My hair is darker so their is no reason to miss them. From putting me in the chair, and placing a hair filled cape on me. And yes, it wasn't even my hair. He sounded surprised I wanted texture in my hair. Why wouldn't I want texture? Am I Frankenstein? Barbers are a dime a dozen. Above-average barbershop. The barbers tend to be close to fully booked the whole weekend so I would recommend making an appointment if you want a cut on the weekend.
