With reservations a must, six of us finally got to try La Picara. There are a variety of tapas, ponchos and raciones on their menu. We tried a lot of them, and everything was delicious with the possible exception of Sepia a la Plancha, grilled squid which was too tough and chewy. Do NOT neglect to see their "Suggeriments fora de Carta" on a chalkboard. Most every off-the-chart suggestion we tried was exceptional, with my favorite actually being Tomaquets de Temporada amp Burratina í old D'Alfabrega. This was probably the best Burrata and Tomatoes serving I've ever tasted. It must be their spiced basil oil. The other standout special was a delicious Pintxo de Foie a la Plantxa, luxurious grilled foie gras skewer. A couple of drag queens came in promoting their show. They were a hoot at our table. It is, without reservation, the best waterside restaurant I've had the pleasure to visit since moving to Spain more than two years ago. While many of the dishes are traditional, they *do* have a wonderful twist on many recipes... from tapas (like patatas bravas - what a sauce!) to their casera (homemade) dishes, like their various paellas. Our group opted for a half dozen different tapas (the calamares a la roman were my favorite), and then we shared the "arroz pulpito" paella. Truly outstanding! (...and if you know me, you know I don't use that word lightly.) So - if you're anywhere near here, come check this place out. You won't be sorry!

The main event is their large range of bottled ciders, which come from the Asturias or Basque regions of Spain. Most of them are fairly dry, and still in character, and around 6% ABV. A bottle costs around EUR4-EUR6, so it's good value for a night out - if you like cider, of course. If you don't, they also serve a good range of wine and a few beers, with tempting tapas on the counter to help line your stomach. The only downer for me was that the very nice member of staff behind the bar wasn't actually that knowledgeable about the ciders, which struck me as a bit odd for a specialist bar.
