However, not since I've joined Fitness first. I used to want to avoid big gyms because I was afraid of not getting the personal service I was seeking. I've also heard some horror stories about other FF gyms. Luckily Fitness First in Jindalee proved to be different. The team who work here are very nice and welcoming. It always makes it a joy coming here. If you come here and looking for a personal trainer ask for James Stewart- awesome trainer!

Lately, there has been a growing fad of 24/7 gyms. I've always thought that no one would actually…read moreuse them 24/7 so it was more a gimmick really and the fad would slowly phase itself out. Even if it was a fad, I walked my butt into the ifeelgood gym at Indooroopilly after pigging out on Sushi (what good shop positioning, right next to a sushi train) and I was impressed that the equipment was fancy and clean (clean being the operative word) and there were actually people in this joint. I checked out the memberships, and they start from $8.95 a week... so if you aren't looking to pay the $20 ish dollars a week other big gyms are charging, this is a great price. They also have personal trainers on staff if you need a jumpstart to a not so jump-starty program and they are really friendly. You don't see the guys pumping iron that much here, but more the cardio chicks, but it's as good as any other 24/7 gym place. At least the equipment is clean right?

Weird as it is (as I'm more of a sloth than an athlete), my past visits to "the gym" over the years though admittedly sparse have shown me I enjoy the treadmill. I find this kind of odd because I don't like jogging or running on the street; maybe it's the adrenalin high in combination with awesome music on my headphones and a surface I can control. There wasn't a lot of meatheads here, which I seem to expect of every gym I walk into. Jetts seemed like a gym for everyone, and despite all the new equipment (they just expanded their space and doubled in size) it had a relaxed, family vibe to it. It's probably a lot to do with the staff, who are genuinely friendly and helpful. The place wasn't too busy when I visited, and apparently this is the norm. The manager, Brendan, is a nice guy who takes an interest in all his customers, not just potential customers. All in all, if I was the type of person who went to the gym, I'd go here. Maybe I'll do it anyway - it depends on what's on TV.

They transform the gymnastic stadium into a fantasy wonderland for the kids with pony rides, peter pan, china town themes and they put huge cushions inbetween ladders and beams and the kids go crazy! There is a really cool foam pit at the back of the room you can jump into.. and probably struggle to come out of but you eventually do get out of it. There are trampolines and tunnels to crawl through, ladders to climb on, fish to fish out of the pond... and the best thing is? Adults can do it with the kids. So go crazy and jump your little trampoline heart out. I've been taking my son here for ages and soon my daughter. But remember, no socks and no shoes allowed.

They took my mother and I around to check out their facilities. I noticed it was very empty for a Wednesday afternoon, but then again, perhaps most gyms are only packed in mornings and evenings of the weekdays and throughout the weekends? Not sure... But either way, it felt a little dead to me. This Fernwood is quite small and a little too packed for my liking. There are rooms upstairs where classes are held and on the lower level they have all the cardio equipment and the cycle room. The cardio equipment was not the latest, but in good enough shape (pun intended!). Due to their lack of Zumba classes and the overall sleepy atmosphere, I didn't end up joining. But that's just me, I wanted a gym a little bit more exciting and alive. This gym might suit other women who want a casual low key kind of gym with a slow paced vibe.

WORST GYM. WORST SERVICE. I received a bad first impression of the gym when I turned up for my…read morehealth assessment and orientation. When I signed up over the phone, I was asked to turn up half an hour early (7pm) the following Monday before the "groove" class at 7.30pm that I wanted to do...in order to be shown around/orientated and have the health check. I was also told over the phone that my membership would begin on this evening. When I arrived at the desk at 7pm, the lady informed me that I was only down for a "paperwork appointment" at 7pm, and that I had to make another appointment for the orientation/health check. She also said that my membership had not yet started. I'm not sure why I would be booked into a five minute "paperwork appointment" at 7pm on a Monday night, when I could easily complete that at my actual orientation/health check appointment. I was at least still able to do the class, but was not shown where the rooms where, and had to find everything (bathrooms, studios etc) completely on my own! Not good. During the class: * The instructor would single women out * The instructor made us "partner up" at one stage - like we were in primary school. When i'm sweaty and gross I'm not really keen to partner up physically with other people!!!! * The instructor numbered us off into groups, and said that when she called our number, we would have to "strut into the middle and strike a sexy pose" - WTF. When I went to cancel my membership two days after joining during the "COOLING OFF PERIOD" I had to pay $100 to cancel my membership!!!!!!!! I had done ONE CLASS and been a member for two days! They even tried to get me to pay for the key which I had not even used once! The staff are rude and have no idea how to treat customers. I've spread the word about how terrible Fernwood Darra is. Don't waste your time or your money at this place!

It is obvious Steve puts a conscious effort into planning each session and no two classes are ever quite the same. I have been impressed with how he caters for all different ages & abilities in each class and always feel like I've had a great workout - you can certainly feel it the next day!
