Western Hotel may be the oldest, historical building on main drag Lancaster Blvd. It has a Victorian, rural feel housing so many in the past who have passed away. It is a self guided tour, but you can book a tour at least 2 weeks in advance to see both the MOAH Museum and the Western Hotel for $3/person. I was lucky to get an impromptu tour being the only person in the hotel near closing by Richard who was manning the front reception. Because of Richard's kind invitation, I was enlightened to the importance of the hotel taking part in Lancaster history run by the Webbers. Richard is quite the raconteur telling tales of Lancaster to make Western Hotel part in its history alive again. He also has a witty, humorous side showing me a violin case in one of the guestrooms which hid inside itself a bottle of whiskey and 4 ceramic shot glasses. Richard's very informative, friendly, amiable manner was able to transform a standard self guided tour reading labels into a vibrant, time machine sending me back to the olden times of Lancaster. Thanks for going out of your way and gifting me a very entertaining 60 minutes!!! This was a 5 star experience.

There were tables in the front you could eat a little picnic at too, if you brought a lunch. As for the exhibits, it is mainly for older kids and adults because it's a lot of reading and adult history. But my kids who are 3 and 6 liked looking at the planes on the ceiling and outside. They got to sit in the jet plane cock pit and also see what a machine gun looked like up close. That was educational for my older son. It was free to enter, not busy, and parking was easy on the street. So, a nice little pit stop to stretch our legs. Spent about 10-15 mins here and then went to the mule museum right next door for another 10-15 minutes. So stop by if you pass through!

Absolutely worth it. There's also an in-n-out relatively close by (and plenty of food options in Palmdale), so location is pretty good too. Also, craziest part of the airpark in my opinion, admission is free! they have a donation box which we happily donated to.

The highlights for me were seeing the SR-71 static display and the F-22 inside. The Six Million Dollar man gear was also a surprise treat, since that show was a favorite in my youth. There's not a lot of other things to do while on Edwards, so this is a no brainer in my mind.

Joe Davies Heritage Airpark is a family-friendly and unique airplane museum located in Palmdale, California. There are fascinating displays of aircraft that show the historical significance of the United States Air Force like never seen before. It is so cool to see these beauties up-close! There is a collection of aircraft flown, tested, designed, produced or modified planes from the United States Air Force. There are 21 retired military aircraft on display that also includes a 1/8 scale model of the B-2 Spirit, an AGM-28 Hound Dog Missile, a B-52, a C-46, and various aircraft components. I read that once complete, they will have over 40 retired military and civilian aircraft in the future. To top it all off, admission to the park is free! If you are interested in a fun afternoon spent with family, friends, or even solo, Joe Davies Heritage Airpark checks all the boxes!

Number one head to the Tehchapi Museum, and the second would be to enjoy a poor boy sandwich and ice tea at Kohnens. Those two things and you will have a perfect day. When I visited recently I had the good fortune of meeting Judith Reynolds, who is the museum director. I learned that the museum is run by the Tehachapi Heritage League and is solely run by wonderful volunteers. The docents work about one day a month for 4 hours and range in age from late 50's to 94 years young. I love that they have kept the admission free to the public, they wanted to make sure families could bring the kids and not worry about the price of admission. They do have a donation box and rely on the kindness of visitors, volunteers and grants to keep this museum up and running. You can join and become a member of the museum as I did for my family. It's 20$ for individual or 25$ for a family. People spend more than that on coffee a month, what a great way to keep Tehachapi history alive and available to everyone. With that membership you will receive a newsletter 4 times a year, it's called Settlers' Gazette. It tells about upcoming events for the museum and the Errea House Museum across the street. I was unaware of the events they hold here and now I will make sure my family doesn't miss any. Most of all the items on display are donated by families or on loan. Some of the exhibits include farming, railroad, local history, Native Americans and much more. I happened to really enjoy the display and story about Tony Anthony the fire chief for the old Tehachapi City Fire Department. I am part of a firefighter family and enjoyed looking at everything displayed. I also bought fire patches to add to our collection. In the back to the left is such a great gallery honoring the Kawaiisu people of the Tehachapi mountains. They have a movie playing that is really great to watch. There is so much more to say about the Tehachapi Museum it would take all night to write. Just please visit, learn, become a member and tell your family and friends passing through to stop and see what an amazing place Tehachapi is.
