It is with great pleasure that my wife and I wholeheartedly recommend the skilled estate planning…read morelegal services of our attorney Jonathan Cox, Esq., at NOVA Estate Planning. Having carefully considered a wide variety of qualified estate planning professionals in Northern Virginia, the outstanding client references for Jonathan Cox, Esq. made him our "#1 Choice." From our initial meeting and onward, Jonathan never failed to maintain a courteous and relaxed demeanor. He patiently listened to all of our preconceived estate planning objectives and concerns. With those insights, Jonathan proceeded to explore for us the pros and cons of a wide variety of practical options and approaches, tailored for our personally articulated joint objectives and priorities. Jonathan explained to us each potential path of asset protection, while weighing the tax considerations, asset protection strengths and shortcomings of each option. He would patiently lay out the unique administrative aspects of every approach, while pondering the day-to-day and long term asset/cash management characteristics of each. Once our estate planning objective and preferences were extensively explored and conceptualized, Jonathan began diagramming a proposed "best structure" of our customized estate plan, all on a large white board in his private conference room. And there before our appreciative eyes, the entire structure of our estate plan did unfold. With scholarly skill, Jonathan would carefully explain each and every aspect of the proposed plan, weighing the relative tax impact, secure ownership and retained control of each progressive step. Shortly thereafter, appropriate legal documents were generated (in draft form), incorporating our exact priorities; ranging from living trusts; beneficiary trusts; powers of attorney; payment and transfer on death instructions; real property re-titling; advanced care directives; etc. After careful review and discussion, an orderly array of finalized legal documents were generated, presented, proofread, executed, notarized and filed (where required). Eventually, all originals were compiled in a neat pocketed binder and digitalized for our future reference, use and potential updating. Straightforward written instructions by Jonathan accompanied all our documents, designed for future reference by ourselves and by our heirs in the final administration and distribution of our estate. My wife and I remain fully satisfied with the extraordinary high quality of professional counsel, interim guidance and finalized work product provided by Jonathan Cox, Esq.; all at a very reasonable cost. Most importantly... Jonathan Cox has provided, both my wife and I, peace of mind. Thank you, Jonathan! by - Fred V. Vienna, VA

I hired Ms. Colleen Haddow in April 2019, about 7 months after the start of my separation. My ex…read moreand I had originally agreed to have an amicable divorce, but that did not last long. I discovered that my ex decided to hire a named-attorney in Fairfax to fight for primary custody of our child, (who, incredibly, was nearly 18 years old at the time) and for an unequal share of our retirement assets. I remember the second guessing that I had immediately after I committed to hiring my attorney. Will she work hard for me? Will she be successful? Will I be able to retain my share of my 30+ years of assets? The answer to all three of these is an unequivocal and emphatic - Yes! Ms. Haddow is a terrific divorce attorney for many reasons. She is incredibly responsive. Many times, I would email her after hours mostly to ask questions in order to allay my angst and she always responded promptly. She knows the judges and the courts in Alexandria, Fairfax, and presumably many others exceptionally well. Her legal skills are outstanding. Most importantly, she is sensitive to the traumatic emotions, fears, and uncertainties that her clients are experiencing, and she knows how to calm them and instill confidence. As a result, I found myself at peace during the times that my ex introduced chaos. As our divorce was finalized Spring 2020, she proved quite successful in navigating the added complexities and obstacles caused by COVID. As for results, I could not be more pleased. Custody was set at 50% and I actually ended up with significantly more than 50% of the assets due to Ms. Haddow's knowledge and attentiveness to the financials being negotiated in the Marital Settlement Agreement. It's not enough to know the law; it also important to understand critical aspects of finances, market adjustments, tax law (401ks treated different than taxable accounts), etc. Ms. Haddow delivered exceptional results. I highly recommend Ms. Haddow to anyone seeking a divorce attorney. I am confident that she will represent your interests as if they were her own.

Nick says he is an expert in landlord tenant, contract, business, neighbor, and real estate law. While Mr. Gehrig seems a very competent lawyer he is not very responsive. For these reasons we have explored other options to represent our small business. Perhaps Mr. Gehrig has much larger clients and he's too busy. One can only assume. We got tired of waiting for his replies and have looked toward other options for our representation.

So, this is really a review of my lawyer, Nelson Garcia. He came highly recommended by a friend…read morewho'd used him as her divorce attorney, and maybe he was great for her. He wasn't for me. My divorce was pretty cut and dry. We just needed someone to write up the legalese for us. The retainer was $5,000, but I think I wound up paying about twice that because Nelson just would. not. listen. to. me. about how I wanted to handle things. I'm sure that he thought that he was doing his due diligence for his client, but after the client (me) has answered multiple times, I really feel like the lawyer should just shut up and listen. On top of that, he made MANY errors in our paperwork, and, naturally, charged me to fix them. I will never, ever recommend him, and I will, in fact, advise other people to stay away from him. On the bright side, the Accountant, Ruth Zetlin, is lovely, and despite the fact that I only dealt with her regarding billing, I appreciated every interaction. Edit added to respond to the comment from the firm below: My divorce was actually pretty straightforward. We split everything 50/50. The problems and delays arose when Nelson tried to talk me out of decisions that my ex-husband and I had already made (e.g. that I would not extend the 50/50 split of his 401k accounts after the date that I officially moved out). We were delayed further because of the many, many, MANY typos (including our NAMES) that were included in Nelson's documents. Had I known I could have a different lawyer represent me at my trial, believe me, I would've done so.

The case for the legal fees went to a Circuit Court of Virginia hearing My lawyer decided not to attend and instead sent a junior partner, Bret Giaimo, whose hands were visibly shaking and voice kept breaking up with nerves. Judge Stoney was clearly not satisfied with the Giaimo's explanation for Jaros' billing practices and awarded me only 70% of my costs as reasonable, leaving me over $11,000 out of pocket. When I asked Jaros to amend his billing to better reflect what the judge determined as reasonable, he refused. Even when I asked him to split the difference he flatly refused. To add insult to inquiry, after the court hearing Jaros sent me a long email telling me that I should look at this as a victory because the defendants were not happy with the amount they had to pay out . He then billed me a further $113 for the 'pleasure' of his email. Overall, I was billed more than $40,000 and was awarded $29,000 by the court as reasonable fees. I sent it over to Mike (this time, more irritated than worried). I KNOW I'm in good hands, I stressed alot less after having him. We finally appeared for the judge to decide if we need to go to trial again, Mike shut it down immediately. He was slick and smooth and knew exactly what to use. It was literally magic. No shit. I had to literally jump for joy once the court room's doors closed. Mike was happy that I was happy and I saw it right then and there, he gave a shit. Not only cause WE won but because he made his client happy. I've heard horror stories about Lawyers costing people an arm & a leg and still not being happy with results. That wasn't the case- Mike was very reasonable and honest. I appreciate that. He was very upfront about the costs of things and didn't bs around it. I'm VERY happy with what I received and it was worth every penny. He truly does provide quality service. All BS aside, Mike knows what he's doing. Stop stressing, make your life easier and just hire him. You WON'T regret it. I promise! Now understand this is in the courts hands and all depends on the mood the judge wakes up in but Mike is your best fucking chance. He will ALWAYS be my go to. ALWAYS.
