The food alone is worth the trip. Despite the fact that everyone raves about the wings at brass ring, they're infinitely better at this restaurant. And the beer is not just cold but flavor wise is fantastic. I don't know how they make IPA taste this way, but maybe they're following instructions whereas other people don't. The staff were great. The patrons are amazing, bizarre, eccentric, weird, friendly, rude, drunk, less drunk, sober (rarely), and in general, are very much in line with the old school Americana vibe. I love it here. I go to gator shack at least twice a week. I am a regular. I went there tonight at 5:45, I was playing pool, at 6:15 I was in the middle of a game. Some guy comes over and takes over the table and I'm in the middle of a game. I said I'm in the middle of a game he said it's tournament night. I said tournament night doesn't start until 730. He said oh well and takes over the table, so I guess I won't be going back. This is one of my favorite bars. They were out of gator which is usually my appetizer and entree, but because of this branched out and got mozzarella sticks and jalapeño poppers which were AMAZING and even better than the gator. Drinks were amazing as usual. This would've been a 5 star if it weren't for the fact we paid $25 for 20 honey garlic wings that were visibly freezer burnt and tasted terrible. Ended up eating maybe half since we were starving and they took forever to come out but ended up not wanting the rest of them. Also paid $12 each for the rum bucket which comes with a souvenir bucket but didn't even get to keep one of the buckets (forgot the second one) definitely not worth paying almost twice for the same amount of drink as the $7 ones. I have tried this place 3 times and they struck out all three times. One time I had a fish sandwich absolutely no taste! Second time I got chicken wings they were dry and over cooked! After waiting about 30+ minutes for our breakfast, we finally got to eat.. The food is mediocre, just basic breakfast food, nothing special.. which whatever.. we arent picky people.. The Gator was over cooked and salty, the burger was dry and chewy the fried onion thing was fried then reheated, I would say the chilli came out of a can but, canned chilli is better. Having spent about 4 hours at lion country safari my wife and I were ready for something to eat. Not from around the area as we were here in Florida on vacation I down loaded the yelp app so that we could find something near us that would be inexpensive but good. Saw the review for Gators and decided to pass as the reviews were just ok. Decided on an Italian pizza shop that had very good reviews. Pulled into the parking area, it was in a strip mall, and found it was closed..... Now what? As we are pulling out we noticed Gators was located in the same strip mall so we decided what the heck, let's give it a try. So very glad we did. Sat at the bar and had a wonderful time conversing with the bartender who was also acting as our waitress. Service was prompt and very friendly. We had never tried " Gator" before so we gave it a shot. We were surprisingly pleased. The Gator bites were cooked perfectly and the home made swamp sauce was hot as heck but very tasty.
