After coming here for the past few weeks, I feel it's time to leave a review. I've lived within…read morewalking distance for four years, but never visited the pool despite LOVING swimming and HATING sitting around my apartment in the summer heat. First of all, my review is not comparing it to some fancy rooftop pool downtown with bottle service. I am reviewing this pool for what it is - a free, state-run pool in Brighton. That said, this pool is a gem. Parking lot if you're from elsewhere, or on-street parking for Allston/Brighton residents. The locker rooms and bathrooms are what you would expect from a public facility. The water is clean, though I haven't swum down to the surface with goggles to check the filters/bottom. As someone else said, there is a bit of hair in the pool that kind of gets tangled in your hands every so often. Hair is one thing that grosses me out but I don't wear a swim cap so don't expect anyone else to. If you're here to swim laps, you're not going to have the best time or the most effective workout, because while there are lines painted on the bottom, there are no lane markers and no lane enforcement. There's also no adults only or lap swim time, which apparently there used to be. It's on 5 feet in the deep end, which is one whole half of the pool, so at least that area tends to be free of small children and even most kids. Bring your own chair, umbrella, snacks, Bluetooth speaker, cooler of food, friends from out of town or abroad. I only ever hear the lifeguards blow their whistles when someone is running on the deck or swims behind the ladders. The hours are kind of tough for anyone who has a regular 9-5 job and it's a bummer that they're only open during school summer vacation, but it's free and that makes it pretty hard to find anything to truly complain about. There is a handicapped lift in/out of the pool but there is no outdoor shower, so the signs telling you that you must shower before entering the pool are kind of pointless, because no one does.

Actual name to use when looking up hours: Veterans Memorial Pool…read more For the convenient location in Cambridge, I was surprised that the pool wasn't at all crowded when visiting on Sunday afternoons this summer! There aren't very shallow areas for the toddlers like there are at some of the other DCR pools, such as Connors Memorial Pool in Waltham, which probably helps to keep the crowds down. But the pool is very spacious and has enough space both for lap swimmers and kids playing. The spray deck just outside is great for the younger kids, too.

I had a previous review on here stating that the pool had no shade on the decks and the changing…read morerooms did not have privacy walls. It's a year later and they've done extensive updates to the pool location. 1. There's now an ADA regulation ramp with rails going into the pool for those in wheelchairs or who have trouble walking. 2. They added easier steps and hand rails for children and families to enter at the opposite end (long stairs that slope gently instead of ladder style.) 3. They have added permanent shade awnings around the pool, along with wooden benches underneath them (definitely still try to come early because those get snapped up quickly.) 4. The changing rooms are the same, but entering the locker rooms, there is now almost a rubberized "curtain" of small strips to walk through that creates privacy. Previously anyone walking by in the main corridor could see directly in. 5. The splash pad/fountain area has awnings and benches around it, and is ADA accessible. As of summer of 2023, the pool is open 7 days a week from 11:15AM-6:00PM. The changes have greatly improved the property, and it's a place where you can come and stay all day instead of roasting on hot concrete. They also have water fountains and outdoor showers along the pool deck for getting a quick drink and rinsing off.

It pretty much has…read moreany type of equipment that a top-notch gym would have and is laid out to help accommodate spacing when it is super busy. Lots of cardio machines, strength machines, free weights, bands, and all that jazz. They have courts for squash and basketball, an indoor track, an indoor pool, and have fitness classes. Like any gym it gets busy at peak times, especially since it is a campus gym so lots of students. There are different membership options depending on if you're a student, faculty, or alumni. There are also guest passes and options for a day pass or seasonal pass (like winter break or summer). The membership is a bit pricey, but it is a quality gym and not that extreme compared to boutique gym prices (yikes!).

The program was scheduled to run from 09/09/2024 to 12/12/2024, four times a week for two hours each session. However, the experience has been incredibly frustrating. Nowhere on their website or in the receipt was it mentioned that parents are required to stay during the whole program (two hour each day, four days/week). We only found out after the program had already started through an email, and my son was even denied entry to his class until I managed to arrive by taxi! It turns out this requirement is buried in a 33-page handbook that wasn't given to us during checkout or mentioned clearly beforehand. To make matters worse, I teach in the evenings and simply can't meet this last-minute obligation. I reached out to the business to ask for either a solution or a refund for the remainder of the program, but I've received zero response. While my child enjoys the actual swimming program, I am extremely disappointed with how this business is handling things. A little transparency and better communication would go a long way.
