While not elegant, this diminutive Indian spot a few hundred meters west of Centraal is actually a nice place for a good meal. It was not hard to find as it was straight down from the station on Beukelsdijk Rd. with no turns, perhaps requiring 10 - 12 minutes to reach by foot.
The restaurant facade was unobtrusive and matched to the neighborhood. The appearance gave away the small and simple nature of the dining room. I went in on a Sunday evening at around 6:30 and had the place to myself with my choice of seats. The woman who waited on me, who I presumed to be one of the proprietors, was friendly and accommodating. Using English was no problem. The menu offered several favorites but, in spite of this, I was able to find a slight variation on a dish that I had never tried before.
I started with a red Dal Soup that was quite good. For my main, I had Chana Chicken, which was chicken with chickpeas in a red curry. It was excellent. It was accompanied by a salad and a small bit of vegetable curry. I also ordered Peshwari Naan. It was all terrific. The curry was very tasty and the Naan was extremely well done.
The prices were very reasonable. With a can of sparkling water to drink, my bill came to €21.50. I was very happy with the value. One thing that should be noted is that they did not accept cards. Only cash payment was possible.
If I am in the area again, I will definitely consider making a return trip to this place. I was staying at the Holiday Inn Express and found it was only a 20 minute walk. This establishment would work well again under those circumstances. read more
