In town on a cruise, was looking for a nice schnitzel. Our guide suggested Zum Oschen, which he…read moredescribed as "a place where locals eat". We tried it...
...and liked it, mostly. Because we were in a large group we were seated in the modernized (I.e. bland) back of the restaurant rather than the more picturesque older part. Spousal Unit and I both ordered (small portions of) Schnitzel "Wiener Art" - thinly pounded pork coated with a pretzel breading, quickly fried, and simply served with lemon wedges. SU received hers with fries; I substituted spaetzle with butter.
The portion sizes were perfect for lunch. The meat was cooked perfectly, but was a bit underseasoned, SU's fries were, well, fries. My spaetzel were very bland and looked more like noodles (think solid elbow macaroni). OK but nothing to write home about.
Overall adequate but it did not compare with what I thoroughly enjoyed at Schnitzelbank in Heidelberg on my last visit. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have watched what the locals ordered: Schnitzel "Frankische Zwiebel-Liebe" (schnitzel with braised and fried onions in a dark beer sauce). Next time, I will.
