The complementary starter was a cold mango soup served with a mint leaf garnish, and it was refreshing and delicious. I had "Gebackenes Spinat-Küchlein auf Pfifferlings-Rag oût und glasiertem Gemüse," which was easily one of the best and most creatively put together dishes I have had in a very long time. It was one of at least two vegetarian options for the main course. My dining companion had "Zart geschmorte Kalbsbäckchen in Spätburgunder mit glasiertem Gemüse und Kartoffel-Kräuterstampf," and we shared a green salad. Suffice it to say that every plate was clean by the end of the evening. The server was gracious and patient as we translated the menu and even made suggestions as to which seat would be less windy. As if the food wasn't reason enough to come here, the view of the mountains from the patio is nothing short of awe inspiring. If I'm ever fortunate enough to be back in this area again, I will definitely be revisiting this fine and rare establishment.

Parking was convenient, the location, in relation to the lake and the Zugspitze, was great. The cost was quite reasonable in comparison to other hotels and gasthauses in Germany. But the greatest things about Gasthaus Zierwald were the staff, the room and the food! This place exudes charm - a mix of the old world with a contemporary finish. And CLEAN is a way of life here. The room was not only larger than most, but newly finished in wood by a REAL craftsman. The handmade wood bed was King sized and very comfortable. The bathroom was fantastic - the largest and best we encountered in our travels - no "squeegy" shower here! After a day of sightseeing, there is an upper deck where you could relax with a warm cup of coffee or good German wine and watch the sunset on the Zugspitze. And the food was fantastic - all fresh and well prepared, to be enjoyed in a cozy, warm, but not crowed dining room. The staff were not only polite and efficient, but more than willing to assist you with accommodations, trip planning, local information and fun conversation. I highly recommend Zierwald and we plan a return stay on our next trip to Germany

Super hospitable family who runs the place with a lady who speaks English (although she does not do well with internet...so email correspondence is a bit of a problem if one does not speak German). The recurrent theme seems to be hearts. They are everywhere, from the tiling job at the entrance, to many indoors and outdoors decorations. Breakfast is included and very fulfilling. Love this place. What a gem.

If it wasn't for that, I would give this place 5 stars. The staff here are excellent, the food is really good and, the bar has an excellent selection of wine, whiskeys, rums and schnapps, at a reasonable price. The view here is spectacular and, there is a small lake at the back of the property where, you can go boating and hire the boat from reception. Although, the breakfast, lunch and dinner was buffet style, the food was excellent and tasted amazing. The meats were excellent and beautifully cooked, breakfast choices plenty, lots of salads and so on on offer and excellent service. The bar was the real highlight for me as not only were the staff here excellent the choices were plenty and I could have spent almost all my money just tasting various single malt whiskeys and other such drinks. I would happily come back here again for the great location, excellent food and great service.

We both slept very well... It was quiet and the bed was good. I was happy with the breakfast: fresh bread rolls, eggs, sausages, cold cuts, jams, honey, butter, yoghurt, cereals, juice, coffee.. There was a pool! Free parking and wifi.... Check-in times were a bit inconvenient. If you arrive after 8pm make sure you call the hotel before to let them know about your late arrival so they can organise a key for you.

The staff is very friendly and they match you up with waiters who speak English. We selected the 3/4 board option. This includes breakfast, a heavy snack, and a multi course dinner. Coffees and alcohol is extra and will be billed to the room. You sit wherever you want for breakfast and snack. Dinner is assigned seats. I recommend that you make a reservation for The Tavern when you arrive. It books quickly. The hotel provides you with a bus pass, but we chose to take a taxi to the hotel initially instead of waiting for the bus (it was around 20 euro). Since we visited in winter, we were able to sled one day that it snowed and we walked across the frozen lake! So cool. The spa is "textile free", so we chose to sauna with a towel around ourselves, but everyone else was naked. Swimsuits in the pool. We took ski lessons one day from the company that the hotel recommended and our teacher, Devi was awesome. We weren't able to go sledding at the Zugspitze (cool cable car that travels to the highest peak in Germany, the cable car is at the base of the hotel) today because of a snow storm, but we hope to go tomorrow! Keep in mind, the hotel rooms and hallways are "dated", but very clean! Everywhere else is very lodge like and more modern. The rooms have these cool doors that open regularly and also tilt open for ventilation. And the showers????? They aren't dated, they're very modern and fabulous. Oh! And they have a pillow bar, which is free. We ordered the lavender ! This was a really cool place to visit and very unlike what we have in the USA. Would love to visit again. I want people to look past what is expected from a modern American hotel. This place is so wonderful and a few stains (I saw a previous photo) shouldn't prevent you from booking a stay.
