A sequel nobody asked for: sloppy closure on the extraction site, infection as a bonus feature, no prescription for pain meds, impossible to reach, and billing practices that made me wonder if I'd wandered into a used car lot instead of an oral surgery office. Front desk was friendly, the dental office/equipment looked modern, and the dentists were efficient. Each procedure was explained and front desk helped with scheduling and often notifying for upcoming appointments. So the reason why I stopped going... I had a filling redone due to it coming off. However, I had pain around the same tooth for months. I couldn't eat on that side at all. I went back in for checkups to see if they can figure out what's going on. The head dentist told me to consider getting a crown since there seems to be a cracking on the tooth. They offered to cover the costs however I thought it was a bit extreme to get a crown from a routine filling. Over the next couple months, I would go back multiple times since the pain didn't go away. This included shaving part of the filling, redoing the filling, and trying to figure out my bite. And the final time I went there for a checkup, I was just told it could just be a neurological thing and almost made it sound like it was my fault and they can't do anything about it. The only reason why I kept going back was to give them the opportunity to fix what they had messed up. I ended up looking for another dentist and I told them my issue. They were able to figure what was wrong, and redid my filling. Now I have no pain.

He replaced my porcelain veneers with sturdy composite crowns about a decade ago. My dentist brother, who practices in Monterey and specializes in cosmetic dentistry was impressed with Dr. Ho's artistry. After being a biannual dental patient with strong healthy teeth, a floss twice a day, take care of myself girl for life, I had some health issues starting in 2019, including broken back, which rendered me immobile for about a year,during covid. My insurance changes and the office changing location did not help, but ya know.....No excuses. The truth is that I had not had a true dentist appointment in over 5 years ( save for a drive by cleaning from my brother's hygienist a couple of years ago.) Today was that first appointment in 5 YEARS and i left South City Smile smiling ear to ear. i was expecting it to be a painful and excruciatingly expensive visit, requiring follow ups,for cavities and a root canal as punishment for neglecting my dental health and not carrying dental insurance. To my surprise and delight, the appointment was pain free, no cavities and a clean bill of dental health. My mouth feels fresh and clean. Best of all, the bill for cleaning, exam and X rays was reasonable. Angelica and Lyndia are the sweetest. At South City Smile, the equipment and ambiance are state of the art. When i gagged at the xray bite wing thingies, the hygienist found smaller ones to accommodate my small mouth and made the x- ray process much more palatable! Dr. Ho performs a thorough exam and did most of the cleaning himself and his chair side manner is above reproach. I was praised for my hygiene and habits of brushing and flossing well, rather than being chided for neglecting my appointments for years. Thank you to South City Smile and the amazing Dr Ho. There is so much chatter about the state of your dental health being a reflection of your overall health. This 56-year old, aging ingenue and geriatric micro- influencer (my son's nickname for me) will be sleeping well tonight. Please do not follow my example of putting yourself last.
