Several errors were made on both our (very simple) federal and state returns…read moreand, while they did file amended returns, they refused to honor H&R Block's very plainly worded Standard Guarantee which states, "If you discover an H&R Block error on your return that entitles you to a larger refund (or smaller tax liability), we'll refund the tax prep fee for that return and file an amended return at no additional charge." (We overpaid $2,000 on our federal taxes and I had to convince them to go over everything again before they discovered the additional errors made on our state return.) Apparently, I was supposed to give them extra money to purchase "Piece of Mind Coverage" because paying an exorbitant amount of money to hire a "tax professional" to file a simple tax return does not actually include any piece of mind. Lastly, they offered a $250.00 credit towards year's taxes but refused any reimbursement for the high fees that we had already paid in direct contradiction to the plainly worded Standard Guarantee. Very deceptive to go into an H&R Block Office and watch them file your taxes on H&R Block Software and advise you that you need to create an H&R Block account online and then turn around and tell you that they are under no obligation to the H&R Block's policies. Edit in response to the owner response below - I had called the local and corporate offices, including the number below, several times before leaving this review in an attempt to resolve this situation. The people at the number below repeatedly told me that it was up to the discretion of the local office if they would honor the guarantee or not. The local office decided to not honor the guarantee and that was the end of it. The guarantee is meaningless and deceptive.

Tax advisors are very friendly and professionals. Soojan was very polite, helpful, and completed my taxes quickly. Only downside is H&R Block is extremely expensive...not anyone's fault in the Chatham office though. I guess when you have a business that specializes in something that can be very complicated and mandatory for all US citizens you can charge whatever you want. Overall good experience and the price is what is it is if you cannot do it yourself. Next year I am going to learn how to do my taxes online myself.

This is the most incompetent professional services organization I have ever had the misfortune to…read morebe associated with. If you have anything other than the simplest tax return, you should avoid this office at all costs. In 2022, my recently widowed mother brought her taxes to this office and was assigned a novice preparer. Her return was moderately complex, with extensive capital gains and dividends statements as a result of rebalancing her portfolio after dad's death. The grossly incompetent preparer failed to report ANY of the capital gains or interest, and my mother who had no experience with taxes didn't know to question them. She put her complete faith in H&R Block. Imagine her surprise when later in the year she received an audit letter with her owing 10s of thousands of dollars taxes on capital gains as well as associated penalties and interest. Because the Chatham office is seasonal, there was nobody there accountable and they did not return repeated voicemails. A very nice man at the Millburn office interceded and was able to partially resolve the problem, but we are still trying to get someone at H&R Block to own up to their role and resolve the issue of penalties. Today my mother showed up at the Chatham Office for a scheduled appointment and yet another grossly incompetent person, this time the manager, failed to show up. The next step unfortunately is lawyering up, but if we can prevent anyone else from making the unfortunate mistake of bringing their taxes here at least we've done something.

Her website allows you to upload all of your documents prior to your visit. You can also contact her through the website with questions and she and her staff will get back to you in a timely fashion. I highly recommend her.
