The lodge rooms were very comfortable with queen size beds and luxury Marriott bedding. Super nice for high class hotel, much less a fish camp! Then on Tuesday we experienced a fantastic day of fishing with Captain Jeremy, who is a first class guide. We went home with a nice mess of fish, including: red fish, black drum, and blue catfish. We caught many more fish, with some too small to keep and some too large to keep, including a 31" long red fish. We will be back that is a fact. We highly recommend Bay Flats Lodge for a great experience.

Having been employed at the Disability Office at one of the Colleges in San Antonio for over five years, I became very familiar with the Federal and Texas ADA LAWS! Further, I am a 100% Disabled Veteran with mobility issues. Your small pet that is decked out with a chest cover that says ADA is not classified as a Service Animal. Look it up on the ADA website and you will find a wealth of information on Service Animals. FYI: I am a Dog lover! Doberman or German Shorthaired are my favorite! Please research the laws before you go. Here is some general information I copied from a website; "Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Texas law, a service animal is defined as a dog (or in some cases, a miniature horse) individually trained to perform specific work or tasks directly related to a person's disability. Emotional support animals are not protected as service animals." When you see people at HEB or Walmart or any other business, with a small animal in their cart or being carried, you can pretty much bet that they are not covered by the ADA. Please take the time to read ADA Laws. One more thing. Any Business can "Trespass" you from their property for any reason. Once they do you must leave the premises.

We looked around Houston and everything was booked or rained out! So we found Goose Island and it had decent reviews! We decided to book a campsite for one night- our campsite was 201. When we arrived my goodness!! I've never seen so many deer - one minute outside of the park, there were about 5 deers hanging out- not scared of me or my car or the noises. It was beautiful! When we entered the park, we first was looking for our campsite and drove in many circles- it was in the "wooded area" so it was a bit hard to find! When we arrived it was around 3pm And we started setting up camp. I am thankful the parking was right in front of the campsite but also that whole area I think 201-204 Is shared. I was lucky it was Christmas so no one else Booked the area next to us but it wouldn't have been as fun if others did! We stayed overnight- everything went well as planned! One thing I didn't like the restrooms were driving distance or a longer walk away but this was an amazing weekend getaway for us! In the morning we checked out the pier area. It was nice and very different than our campsite area! Highly recommend this park even for a daytime park!

My adventure to Matagorda Island was grand indeed - I love stories of the history of a place as…read moremuch as I love exploring and that is what Matagorda Island is all about. Six of us arrived in Port O Conner on a Friday night at Captain Bob Hills guest house and Saturday morning he shuttled us via private boat the 4.5 mile bay ride to the north shore of the island. Capt Bob told us the history of the island on the boat ride over and if you are also intrigued by history I highly suggest you you read the history of the island on the website www.matagordaisland.com in short the land that is now a state park was seized by the government from the original settlers during WWII. On the island there is no longer any permanent residents but you can camp by permit, there are numerous hiking trails and lots of birds and other wildlife and fishing (we caught enough fish for 3 dinners for 6 -red fish and a baby shark). On the N shore is a lighthouse from the 1800's and a grave site of the original settlers. The Island is managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife and if you want to camp you need to get a permit through them. This island is a must visit for any trip to the coast.
