We did a cast and blast for duck after Christmas 2020. We showed up the afternoon before about 5. Captain Kris checked us in. He is a GREAT AMERICAN!!! He had us preposition our waders, jackets, guns and shells in the mud room for a quick exit the next morning. We had time to play some washers and horse shoes before dinner. The outdoor kitchen/bar area is a great place to hang as well. Dinner was at 7:15 and was fantastic. Came with an appetizer and our choice of desserts. The room was clean and comfortable with it's own bathroom. All 3 of us had our own bed. The cooks had a full warm breakfast ready to go at 5AM the next morning. Our guide Justice was ready to go early and he put us on the ducks. Mostly teal that day. The blind was very well made and it was comfortable. His dog Delta took care of the retrieving duties. We came back to the lodge for a nice lunch and a quick gun cleaning while Justice cleaned the birds and the boat prior to our fishing trip. He took us right to where the redfish where stacked, despite howling SE winds as a cold front approached. Each of my sons caught 27 inch redfish in addition to several other slot keepers. Every aspect of our day was awesome - the food, the arrangements, the hunting, the fishing, and they cleaned all fish and ducks. All we had to do was add ice to our cooler (which is free because Chris has a huge ice maker on the property) to get our game home. Another really cool thing compared to a hotel is that they allow you to leave your gear in the room until you get back at the end of the day. You can clean yourself up before you depart too. Plus you don't have to leave your stuff in a hot car in the summer. They definitely deserve 5 stars for the overall experience. The only heads up I would give you, and obviously this is weather and situation dependent, is that they lean towards fishing with bait versus lures or plastics. This make sense because they are dealing with a wide range of client abilities, and they want to give you the best chance of catching fish. If you prefer to chunk and crank, just give them a heads up when you book it. They will do whatever you ask. Again, great people run a tight operation there and we really enjoyed it. read more

Castaway Lodge at Seadrift is my top choice for fishing and hunting on the Texas Gulf Coast. You can kick back and be yourself in the company of good hosts and friends. Captain Kris has years of experience and makes you feel welcome. He has assembled a fantastic team of professional guides. The large clean quarters I stayed in were almost new and adjacent meeting rooms were perfect to discuss the day's catch. The large dining area supports the top end gourmet cuisine carefully prepared by Captain Kris and his exceptional wife Wendi and her staff. Think big steaks, ribs, and flounder stuffed with crab meat for entrees are some of the fabulous meals I have enjoyed at Castaway. Castaway has numerous productive duck blinds accessible by large smooth riding boats or airboats as well as shore blinds. San Antonio Bay and adjacent bays from North of Seadrift to Port O'Connor and towards the Wildlife Refuge contain some of the best Redfish, Speckled Trout and Flounder fishing in Texas. Last fall we did a Cast and Blast shooting our limit of ducks by early morning and catching a limit of reds by mid morning. What a trip! For more adventure you can hunt gator or wild hogs. We have Duck hunted in with a guide companies and stayed at bad and some really good lodges. So we have a lot to compare Castaway Lodge too. Capt Kris and his team are the best we've ever hunted with! Accommodations are solid, food is great, and the guides are top notch! Am empresses by how Capt Kris is a team builder, brining in young men, having them work with guides like James to mentor them in becoming top quality guides! This is continuing the great tradition our nation should follow in all aspects of life, not just hiring but mentoring. As a crew the best team of guides I've ever seen. We have had great hunts two years in a row with the Castaway team. Having hunted all over the South, Southeast and Midwest, you can't predict weather patterns, or how many ducks will be holding in an area. However one thing I will guarantee you, Capt Kris and his wife are awesome host! Just returned from another awesome adventure at Castaway Lodge. There is a reason these folks have been in business for 25 years, they know how to do it right. Capt. Kris and Wendi run a first rate outfit and never fail to exceed expectations. We do a January trip for ducks. What a great opportunity to harvest ducks in their full breeding plumage. Talking with other guests at dinner each night who are fishing and looking at their pictures of some pretty impressive redfish shows the guides know more than waterfowl. Great food, lodging and outdoor adventures keep us coming back for more. We hunted with Capt Donnie Heath, who worked hard to keep us "on the X". Great guy to spend time in a blind with, too. Castaway Lodge was wonderful. Truly enjoyed the whole experience. Ms. Wendi is a awesome cook. Mr. Kris is a super host. They made sure my daughter and I had the stay of a life time. I highly recommend the Castaway experience to anyone looking for a great fishing vacation. The atmosphere was friendly, laid back and well thought out. There is a place to relax outside and take in the Bayou. With outdoor dining and sitting area that includes games, tv comfy chairs and more. The lodging is top notch with everything you need to sleep and relax. Great home feeling with the extras of hotel living. Overall it was a place that I look forward to going back to. The people at Castaway are first class, top notch, A number one and boy do they take care of a man and his family and friends. First time I came in contact with them was on a Corporate sponsored trip I was lucky to get invited to. Large group of guys and we had a blast. Everyone caught lots of fish which were cleaned, bagged and put on ice for the trip home. The facilities are clean! well maintained and did I say clean? Very nice. The grounds are beautiful. Definitely a green thumb in the midst and they have an amazing vegetable garden from which you get the benefits at meals. And the food, fresh, tasty and plenty of it. From the moment I asked for information, Captain Kris Kelly was prompt, extremely friendly and informative. I wanted to give my daughter a birthday surprise she wouldn't forget. My expectation was decent quarters and service and of course to catch some fish. I was blown away by the team at Castaway Lodge. We were welcomed to a clean and comfortable place to sleep. We limited out on redfish the second time out. Our guide James and deck hand Layton were knowledgeable and put us on the fish. Being August... that was not terribly easy. This was our corporate group's 2nd annual trip with Castaway Lodge. We will be back again! Everything was 1st class! The property was very well maintained, clean and personalized for our group. The onsite owner-operators thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The meals were excellent. And our team can eat! Our guides put everyone on fish and we limited out with ease. What made this trip memorable were 2 things: 1) The food! It was even better than last year! And the bar was set pretty high from the year before. 2) The fishing guides! The Seadrift wind was blowing that day. I've been to Castaway Lodge twice now. Both times with my son for a 13th birthday trip. The guides work hard to put you on the fish. We booked a sea trout/redfish trip one day (caught our limit of trout) and a air boat redfish trip the next day. Depending on when you are fishing, you might want to delay the redfish trip until later in the season. Still, riding on the air boat is a blast. You can access areas that other boats can't. The lodging is clean and top notch. Wendy's cooking made us feel like we were kings. She cooked some of our fresh catch which was a real treat. I wish I could go more often. I can't wait until I can get all my grown boys there at the same time. read more

My son and I have been to Castaway Lodge twice over the years, once before the lodge was actually built. This last time we went out duck hunting and redfish/catfish fishing. Had a great time with the guides and brought both fish and ducks back for meals as well as a nice bufflehead I had mounted. Food at the lodge was superlative, and the staff there treated everyone like family. Had a great cookout one night. Guide took us to his honey hole one afternoon and we caught some of the cleanest, best tasting catfish I have ever had. Great time at Castaway Lodge! I took 3 guys with me and none of us had been duck hunting prior to this trip. I think we are all hooked now. The staff was awesome and the guide was dailed in on putting us on ducks. The processes they have in place are turn key from start to finish. The food and lodging was also excellent. I would highly recommend a weekend of duck hunting with Castaway Lodge. This is the 3rd time we have visited Castaway. We had a great trip, as we have in the past. Guides are very professional, welcoming accommodations and the food is great! You will never leave hungry from the Castaway! We were duck hunting both morning and afternoon. We shot 13 different species in 3 days, all the blinds were comfortable and easy rides to them. We really enjoyed the Airboats! That was a blast to travel from the ramp to the blinds. Cant say enough about Kris and the whole operation. We will be returning next year and trying to stay longer! Castaway Lodge came through! We wanted a last-minute guided fishing trip; Kris made it happen for us. The fishing was great! I didn't know what to expect, being a drive-in fishing guest and not staying in the lodge itself. I was pleasantly surprised when Kris personally met us at the lodge and took us to meet our guide. The experience at Castaway Lodge was PHENOMENAL!!! Kris and his wife Wendi were very hospitable and wonderful cooks. The food was amazingly delicious and the rooms exceeded our expectations. They were very clean and spacious. We loved that we were able to leave our things while on the fishing trip and come back to shower before checking out. It definitely beats staying at a hotel. Capt. My dad, brother, son and I decided to have a guy's fishing trip on the coast and the Castaway team came highly recommended. Suffice to say, we had an amazing experience! They could not be a friendlier bunch and got us on the big fish and kept us there. We have gone to Castaway Lodge at Seadrift, Texas for several years. We go for the duck hunting and fishing. One year we even went hog hunting. The guides are the best!
