The Museum had a lot of artifacts from that era, including Custer's famous gloves that he was found in. The Museum also has the largest collection of photographs during that era and came with stories. There's also an interesting video that they show. The Museum is small, but it contained a lot of stuff. The gift shop is way bigger and carried a lot. The staff at the museum are all history buffs with degrees in U.S. History. I know Custer was a US war hero (fighting for the Union during the Civil War), but you couldn't help think how wrong it was of him and his men to try to uproot the Native Americans. Reading through the museum, I just thought how wrong it was for Custer to attack the Native Americans. I understand they thought it was Manifest Destiny but this museum really makes you think about who was in the right and who was in the wrong. Overall, the museum is great for those history buffs. The downside is no photos inside the museum which makes sense cuz they don't want to have flash kill their photos & people to post all their stuff. Admission is $7.50 adult Parking is free If you keep going on the road for 4 miles you get to the national park which has the monument and other battlefield information.

I was planning on driving into Billings to a museum and our host (at fishing lodge) recommended it this one in Hardin. I went with my mom this morning and it was absolutely fabulous. The detailed exhibits within the main space and all the outlying buildings were fantastic. I love seeing how people used to live and this museum has plenty of examples. Lots of information on Indian tribes as well as other settlers to the area. There is a covered picnic area if you want to bring your lunch. It is well worth a trip. Very good!
