I haven't been to John Ball Zoo in a very long time. I'd like to share with you why. I'm about to…read moretell you something deeply personal. I was born with a genetic blood disorder called Sickle Cell Anemia. As a result, I live with chronic pain that puts me in the hospital regularly and I have had more surgeries than I can count. As a matter of fact, I recently was discharged from the hospital. But despite how I felt, I couldn't miss this trip to the zoo for a very special reason. My daughter's boyfriend planned to propose to my daughter while we were at the zoo. As you can guess, I was too excited to miss this moment! I'm happy to report that I went and I had the best time there!! However, we had to do a little planning ahead before I could go. So, we called the zoo to see if they had any wheelchairs to use since I can't walk far. To our surprise, they did! So for those like me, who have handicapper accessibility needs, John Ball Zoo can accommodate you. They even have Amigos (electric carts). You have to pay a $30 deposit and give them your driver's license to use one of their chairs. Once you return it, you will get your deposit and license back. Please know that it's on a first come, first serve basis...so, you can't reserve any of the chairs. I suggest you call on the day you plan to go and ask if they have chairs available. Currently, John Ball Zoo has The Lantern Festival going on until June 11th. Not only can you see the live animals at the zoo, but at every turn there were various art exhibits of animals and flowers that were just breathtaking! Many of these exhibits were designed just to pay homage to The Chinese New Year. It's an amazing exhibit to be enjoyed by the entire family! They also have evening hours and those same exhibits light up! I haven't gone in the evening yet, but I'm definitely making plans to go soon. Who knows, maybe I'll see you there! If so, please stop and say hi. I'm not a celebrity by any means, but I love meeting new people. I have included photos/videos of some of the things you can expect to see, both during the day and night. I do hope you enjoy them. The zoo also has a gift store, as well as concession stands and restrooms. The 2023 Season at John Ball Zoo lasts until November 19th. For more information, you can check out their website at www.visitJBZoo.org. Oh, if you are curious about the outcome of the proposal. Well, my daughter said....YES!!! So now I can say with great joy that my beautiful daughter is officially ENGAGED to a wonderful young man!!
