In a recent visit to the Spitafields market location the experience wasn't quite the same as previous visits. The falafel didn't seem fresh and the quality of the salads was not great. There was too much sauce for my liking and that ruined the dish. I ended up taking a few bites and gave the food away as it wasn't appetising or visually appealing. Having said that, I have had better experiences at other locations so I'm hoping this was a one off. Do be aware the queue is long in the Spitafields location during lunch.

(This was actually the original store.) I mean, there's not much that I can add to the other reviews, other than that their concept f.... works! Here's what you should do, when you come here: 1) Decide if you're super-hungry (2a) or just hungry (2b). (Don't come here if you're just peckish) 2a) Right, you're super-hungry. In that case I suggest you go for the falafel salad in a box. For extra protein and deliciousness, I'd add an egg for an extra 60p. (And if you really want to go crazy, add that dollop of tasty guacamole as well!) 2b) You're hungry? Go for the classic falafel sandwich in pita bread - make sure to get the wholemeal pita, as your health will thank you for it! (You can certainly also add all the extras as described above, but let me tell you that eating this will be a messy undertaking!) Now, last but not least, please make sure that especially if you're going for option 2b, you take plenty of napkins with you - as you will need them!

I love falafel but find that I often feel bloated after eating it, but these guys have the recipe down and you won't assault anyone's olfactory senses if you know what I mean. It's a quickly set up stand so don't expect ambiance or a sit down but at the same time be prepared for brilliant service. While wrapping your meal, they give you a quick sample to whet your appetite in the event that the savory aroma wafting from their fryer doesn't get you. The greens are fresh and the hummus and tahini are zesty. They even have freshly chopped mint leaves to give your wrap that extra pop.

This was my first visit and OMG this is the best falafel I've had outside of the Middle East or Mamoun's in NYC ( http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/mamouns-falafel-new-york -- and I've been eating there for a very long time) The falafel quality itself is outstanding, crisp on the outside, soft and full of flavour on the inside. The box meal with salad , falafel & pita bread is outstanding value for money. For around £6.50, you get all of the above, and the salad means not only some leaves and onions, but a wide range of mixed salads and ingredients to include such as babaganoush (pureed eggplant), green chili, white cabbage, beetroot, couscous, lentils, olives, pasta, and you get to stuff it all into the the box yourself. I probably could have just done with the falafel & salad in a pitta (£4.50 I think)....as I write I am struggling to fit the rest of the huge meal in my tummy. To top off the experience, the service was really friendly and cheery. If only I could finish all this food......

If that makes you salivate just reading it, get yourself down there, because I promise you it tastes even better than you imagine I'd ordered my pita and was asked 'would you like a drink with that?'. I declined as I was pulling a suitcase and didn't have any spare hands. The lady serving me, then gave me a complimentary crunchy pickled chilli thing to try while I waited and I thought, 'oh, how nice'. It was pretty salty, and when the server smiled and asked again if I wanted to purchase a drink, I conceded and picked up a Limonata, knowing deep down, that it was one of the best bits of up-selling I've ever seen. Bravo falafel lady. You win this round, but I'll be wise to your tricks next time... ;) Checking in gets you 10% off your first order, which is always nice!

They're open 7 days a week for your doner fix, or as an invitation to introduce you to the delicious Vegan version of a classic Turkish food. Think of a falafel wrap, but with Seitan instead of chickpea balls. It was so good that my babygirl who normally is quite indifferent towards middle eastern food, gobbled up more than her fair share of the wrap. I was quite proud of that girl! Don't forget to ask for a side of hot sauce. Very friendly service and the wrap came out at lighting speed despite being fairly busy. They DO NOT skimp on the filling here. That bad boy was quite girthy! It was also fairly reasonably priced @ £7.95 or so. In addition to the doner, they serve some sort of pizza and some salads. Although honestly, what more do you need than a Vegan doner wrap and a cold beer? (Brewdogs is just down the street)

But here's the mystery of the maths, right: Tuesday special of a lamb doner and chicken doner for £3.50 each. That's a total of £7. We noticed this offer written up on the board after we'd ordered and paid already. I'd handed over a £20 bill and got £12 in change... so a total of £8. So when we seated ourselves at a nearby booth to await our food, the hubbub and annoyance of the fellows behind the counter seemed out of place. Asked in irritated tones, 'You wanted takeaway, right?' Er... no... 'That's an extra 50p charge for eat-in...' Grumbles ensued, and our confusion escalated, before finally he relented, saying 'It's okay, it's okay... sit down, we'll bring you your kebabs.' Even if there -was- a 50p extra charge, we'd already paid a pound over what their signage indicated... Whatevs. In the end, we were served huge plates with mounds of meat tucked into little half-pittas. Heaps of salad with brilliantly purple crispy cabbage came on the sides, and two tubs of properly spicy harissa and yoghurt sauce were welcome offerings. Whilst I will admit that the meat I had at Crystal Kebab near Kings Cross a few nights prior was superior in tenderness and flavour, the volume of food at an affordable price at City Best was undeniable. Perhaps the best endorsement I can offer on the quality and quantity of food is this: I ate here sober and I'd do it again.
