Later, I visited their sales room and found multiple displays of damascene with prices clearly posted and no pressure to purchase from Vicente. As far as I could see, all of damascene was produced on the premises as I had seen two men producing similar pieces just steps away the same morning. With close inspection I could see the damascene we purchased was not mass-produced like the sample that Vicente helpfully showed us for comparison. The damascene we purchased from Vicente (several small pieces with total cost about 80 Euros) all had the sharp indentations in the gold leaf from tools used by hand to finish the process. I saw enough manufacturing equipment on the premises as well as actual work conducted on the premises to not doubt Vicente's word that the pieces we purchased were produced there. Vicente asked to see my passport, and I believe he charged the total of the prices on the individual pieces. I do not remember him adding any VAT. Our visit to Artesania Burgueno to be one of the highpoints of our three days in Toledo. Vicente was friendly, not pushy, and informative.

    Alcázar de Toledo

They also provide lockers to store your items which makes walking around much more comfortable. No one really spoke English during our visit, but everyone was very helpful and made the experience easy. All of the exhibits were interesting and well maintained, and there is even a listening tour available in both English and Spanish which helps you understand the history behind what you are seeing. The third floor is the highest point in Toledo and offers incredible views of the city. It is definitely a highlight of the visit and a great spot for pictures. Overall, I would recommend this museum if you are visiting Toledo and have about two hours to look around. It is a well curated and memorable experience.

The Romans built the first palace here in the 3rd Century, and its ancient foundations can been seen in the massive foyer of the military museum that now calls the Alcázar home. Those foundations, now displayed as part of one of the largest archeological excavations in Spain, are the most interesting part of the massive complex, much of which was reconstructed following the palace's destruction in the 1930s, after a two-month siege by Franco's Nationalist forces. The Alcázar's fascinating role in the Spanish Civil War (it's basically Spain's version of the Alamo) isn't given the attention it deserves in the present museum, which focuses on Spain's military history from the Visigoths to World War II. The exhibits are interesting (particularly the collection of medieval armor and swords), but they seem random and disconnected, and the lack of detail on the history of the palace itself feels like a missed opportunity. Worth maybe an hour of your time, unless you're a military history buff, in which case it's probably worth two.

Other than those extra amenities, Pintor El Greco was wonderful! It had so much character and was still very modern, spacious and comfortable. Of the 3.5 weeks traveling throughout Spain and Greece, this was definitely one of our top 3 favorite hotels. It is fairly central and close to all the sights you need to see in Toledo. They also have a great breakfast which we opted for considering we were taking a train out of Toledo and didn't want to fuss with walking even a little ways into the town to grab food. I believe the breakfast was 9euros/person, which isn't cheap, yet the spread was great and delicious. Definitely worth while if you want a larger breakfast and don't have the time or energy to find some place else to eat. We would recommend staying at this hotel to anyone staying at least a night in Toledo!

It seemed more German than Spanish, but it is a very old hotel that has been very well maintained. My room was mostly oak. It had wooden shutters that opened to the street. I have stayed in hotels in Barcelona, Valencia, Grenada and Malaga, but this is the only hotel that I would make an effort to visit again.
