We tried three times to get into the parking-lot at the port. No chance there, they won't let you in to wait for a spot.
Then we tried this parcheggio, a bit east of town. It's pretty much dug into the mountain area here. The first two times we passed it, it was full and therefore the entrance closed with a metal chain. At the third pass though it was finally open and a handful of spots available. We had a Station Wagon (over 5m long) and it did just fit. Anything bigger than that might give you an extra headache.
Fees are - as usual - a bit high. But we didn't mind, just happy to get a spot. Staff here was very friendly though. And you won't have to walk along the Coastal Road to get into town. A pedestrian tunnel connects the parcheggio with the old town of Amalfi, very convenient!
We stayed a bit under 3 hours, costs us 12 Euros. That's alright.
Don't give up if you won't find a spot at first. Keep looking and driving around. This parcheggio surely is a good choice. And the town is quite pretty. But in the end we preferred lovely Cetara over Amalfi (less tourists...but also less parking spots).
